A team approach is optimal in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal infection in pediatric patients given the complexity and uncertainty with which such infections manifest and progress, particularly among severely ill children. The team approach includes emergency medicine, pediatric intensive care, pediatric hospitalist medicine, infectious disease service, orthopaedic surgery, radiology, anesthesiology, pharmacology, and hematology. These services follow evidence-based clinical practice guidelines with integrated processes of care so that children and their families may benefit from data-driven continuous process improvement.

Purpose Of Review: The goal of this review is to obtain a better understanding of how chondrogenesis defines skeletal development via cell transdifferentiation from chondrocytes to bone cells.

Recent Findings: A breakthrough in cell lineage tracing allows bone biologists to trace the cell fate and demonstrate that hypertrophic chondrocytes can directly transdifferentiate into bone cells during endochondral bone formation. However, there is a knowledge gap for the biological significance of this lineage extension and the mechanisms controlling this process.

Background: Two operative procedures are currently advocated to stimulate the necrotic femoral head healing in children with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease: transphyseal neck-head tunneling (TNHT) and multiple epiphyseal drilling (MED). Background: Madelung deformity arises from a partial distal radial growth disturbance in combination with an abnormal hypertrophic ligament spanning the volar radius and carpus, termed, the Vickers ligament. Case: Congenital tibiofibular diastasis is a relatively rare form of limb deficiency, characterized by distal tibial tapering, absent ankle mortise, equinovarus foot deformity, and variable lower leg shortening. This pilot study was performed to describe changes in arterial flow in completely displaced neurovascularly intact Gartland III pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures using Duplex ultrasonography. This is a prospective study of 11 Gartland type III supracondylar humerus fractures with no cortical continuity but with palpable radial pulse and normal neurologic examination. Duplex ultrasonography was performed on injured and uninjured arms, both preoperatively and postpinning, and interpreted by a board-certified pediatric radiologist.

Background: There is a paucity of data defining safe transport protocols for children treated with hip spica casting. Although restraint devices for casted children are available, all federally mandated testing uses a noncasted anthropomorphic test device (ATD or crash dummy).
