Review of Statistical Considerations and Data Imputation Methodologies in Psoriasis Clinical Trials.

J Clin Aesthet Dermatol

January 2024

Mr. Davidson is with Fallon Medica in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and was an employee of Bristol Myers Squibb at the time of manuscript development.

Numerous clinical trials have established that various biologic and oral small-molecule therapies are efficacious in patients with psoriasis. However, as there are limited head-to-head trials, healthcare providers may compare results across multiple trials when providing treatment recommendations. Direct comparisons among agents are challenging because psoriasis trials differ in terms of study design, patient population, and data analysis methodologies.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are a life-threatening cardiovascular disease for which there is a lack of effective therapy preventing aortic rupture. During AAA formation, pathological vascular remodeling is driven by vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) dysfunction and apoptosis, for which the mechanisms regulating loss of VSMCs within the aortic wall remain poorly defined. Using single-cell RNA-Seq of human AAA tissues, we identified increased activation of the endoplasmic reticulum stress response pathway, PERK/eIF2α/ATF4, in aortic VSMCs resulting in upregulation of an apoptotic cellular response.

Population genomics of premature termination codons in cavefish with substantial trait loss.

Loss-of-function alleles are a pertinent source of genetic variation with the potential to contribute to adaptation. Cave-adapted organisms exhibit striking loss of ancestral traits such as eyes and pigment, suggesting that loss-of-function alleles may play an outsized role in these systems. Here, we leverage 141 whole genome sequences to evaluate the evolutionary history and adaptive potential of single nucleotide premature termination codons (PTCs) in Mexican tetra.

Topical Carboxytherapy for Skin Rejuvenation.

J Clin Aesthet Dermatol

January 2025

Drs. Simmons-O'Brien and Orlinsky are with Simmons-O'Brien & Orlinsky, LLC, in Towson, Maryland.

Driven by public demand, new safe and effective approaches for achieving dermal rejuvenation are continuously being developed. Recently, there has been growing interest and advances in carbon dioxide therapy, or carboxytherapy. Based on the Bohr effect, carboxytherapy enhances the release of O from the blood into the surrounding tissues in response to increased blood CO.

Recalcitrant Pediatric Facial Vitiligo Successfully Treated with Roflumilast Cream 0.3% Once Daily.

J Clin Aesthet Dermatol

January 2025

Dr. Warren and Ms. Sanchez are with Derm Texas in Dallas, Texas.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder that causes melanocyte damage and pigment loss. The clinical presentation of vitiligo consists of patchy areas of lighter skin and results from a loss of functioning melanocytes and may be more visible in darker skin toned patients. Vitiligo affects approximately 2 percent of children and adolescents in the United States, with half of the affected cases undiagnosed.

Knowledge on the effect of different nicotine consumption modalities on dermatologic surgical outcomes is limited, with conflicting conclusions. Cigarette smoking is known to adversely affect outcomes, but the impact of other nicotine consumption modalities like cigars, smokeless tobacco, and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is less understood. Our objective was to evaluate the impact of various nicotine consumption modalities on complication rates after Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS).

Occurrence of degenerative interactions is thought to serve as a mechanism underlying hybrid unfitness in most animal systems. However, the molecular mechanisms underpinning the genetic interaction and how they contribute to overall hybrid incompatibilities are limited to only a handful of examples. A vertebrate model organism, Xiphophorus, is used to study hybrid dysfunction, and it has been shown from this model that diseases, such as melanoma, can occur in certain interspecies hybrids.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is an infection caused by the Leishmania protozoa, which are primarily transmitted through bites of infected female sandflies. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical management of CL, including an in-depth analysis of its epidemiology, prevention and control measures, diagnostic modalities - particularly molecular and serological, differential diagnosis with other lesions, and treatment options. Also discussed are recent concerns regarding the endemicity of CL, with a focus on the significant rise in travel-related cases as well as locally acquired cases, providing insight into the changing epidemiological landscape.

Introduction: A diagnosis of melanoma in situ presents negligible risk to a person's lifespan or physical well-being, but existing terminology makes it difficult for patients to distinguish these from higher risk invasive melanomas. This study aims to explore whether using an alternative label for melanoma in situ may influence patients' management choices and anxiety levels.

Methods And Analysis: This study is a between-subjects randomised online experiment, using hypothetical scenarios.

An association between confluent and reticulated papillomatosis (CARP) and obesity has been reported; however, the relationship between CARP treatment response and obesity remains unknown. A retrospective chart review was performed of 92 pediatric patients diagnosed and treated for CARP during a 7-year period at a single institution. Twenty-three non-obese patients responded to therapy at a higher rate compared to 69 obese patients (100% vs.
