Introduction: Breaking, often mislabeled as breakdancing in the media, is a dance style originating from the Bronx of New York in the early 1970s. A unique condition in this population is a form of alopecia known as "headspin hole," or "breakdancer overuse syndrome" of the scalp. This form of hair loss may show a variety of patterns based on the activities of the dancer.

Direct-to-consumer methods may reach a population of women who avoid screening because of stigma and privacy concerns, or who lack access to clinical care. Little is known about the salient dissemination approaches to promote these methods.

Little is known regarding the effect timing of repair has on extensor tendon repair results. The purpose of this study is to determine if a relationship exists between the time of extensor tendon injury to extensor tendon repair and patient outcomes. A retrospective chart review was conducted on all patients that underwent extensor tendon repair at our institution.

In patients who undergo femoral fracture fixation with a cephalomedullary nail, the breakage of one or more of the distal interlocking screws is a well-described phenomenon. The presence of a broken interlocking screw in patients who require the removal of their cephalomedullary nail presents a unique challenge. The broken interlocking screw may be retrieved, or the screw may be retained if it is not engaged within the nail and the nail can safely be removed while leaving the broken screw fragment behind.

Hematologic tumors are mostly treated with chemotherapies that have poor toxicity profiles. While molecular tumor profiling can expand therapeutic options, our understanding of potential targetable drivers comes from studies of adult liquid tumors, which does not necessarily translate to efficacious treatment in pediatric liquid tumors. There is also no consensus on when profiling should be performed and its use in guiding therapies.

The application of molecular tumor profiles in clinical decision making remains a challenge. To aid in the interpretation of complex biomarkers, molecular tumor boards (MTBs) have been established worldwide. In the present study, we show that a multidisciplinary approach is essential to the success of MTBs.

Approximately 4% to 35% of pediatric patients undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and lymphoblastic lymphoma (LLy) develop drug-induced hyperglycemia. Though hyperglycemia is associated with poor outcomes, no guidelines for identifying drug-induced hyperglycemia currently exist, and the time course for developing hyperglycemia remains relatively uncharacterized after induction therapy. The present study evaluated a hyperglycemia screening protocol that was implemented to identify hyperglycemia more promptly, examined predictors of hyperglycemia during ALL and LLy therapy, and described the timeline for developing hyperglycemia.

Exosomes are a group of vesicles that package and transport DNA, RNA, proteins, and lipids to recipient cells. They can be derived from blood, saliva, urine, and/or other biological tissues. Their impact on several diseases, such as neurodegenerative, autoimmune, and ocular diseases, have been reported, but not fully unraveled.

Background: Ureteral reimplantation remains the primary surgical method used for patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Cystoscopy is commonly performed first to visualize anatomy and rule out possible abnormalities. Urine cultures may also be obtained.

The purpose of our study is to evaluate the effectiveness of near peer teaching in the setting of ultrasound education. We hypothesized that this would be the preferred learning technique among TCOM students and TAs.

Background: The aging Mexican American (MA) population is the fastest growing ethnic minority group in the US. MAs have a unique metabolic-related risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), compared to non-Hispanic whites (NHW). This risk for cognitive impairment (CI) is multifactorial involving genetics, environmental, and lifestyle factors.

Objective: Although persons who are pregnancy-capable and experiencing homelessness may have a strong desire to avoid pregnancy, they face unique barriers to contraception. This multimethod qualitative study aimed to identify preferences for, barriers to, and facilitators of contraceptive access and use among women experiencing homelessness in the United States using a systems perspective.
Study Design: We conducted semistructured interviews with women experiencing homelessness (n = 19), healthcare providers (n = 6), and social service providers (n = 6).

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) represents the most common pediatric cancer. Most patients (85%) develop B-cell ALL; however, T-cell ALL tends to be more aggressive. We have previously identified 2B4 (SLAMF4), CS1 (SLAMF7) and LLT1 (CLEC2D) that can activate or inhibit NK cells upon the interaction with their ligands.

Introduction: With the introduction of portable handheld ultrasounds, higher levels of technology are more easily available for patients in rural and underserved communities. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) increases accessibility for patients with limited resources, thus reducing costs and decreasing the risk of non-compliance or subsequent loss to follow-up. Despite the increasing utility of ultrasonography, literature demonstrates a lack of sufficient training in POCUS and ultrasound-guided techniques for Family Medicine residents.

Healthcare practitioners (HCP) have expressed inadequate preparation in providing care to patients living with a dementia. Research suggests experiential learning activities (ELAs) can improve HCP knowledge and comfort toward this population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of a short-duration (2-hour) dementia ELA on Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students' knowledge and comfort toward individuals living with a dementia.

Background: It is thought that the clinical course of actively treated pediatric/adolescent cancer patients diagnosed with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is more severe than experienced by the general pediatric population. We describe the clinical course, risk factors affecting presentation, and management of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection for these patients.
Methods: Patients at a single institution receiving cancer therapy while diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 between January 2020 and June 2021 were retrospectively reviewed.

Context: The practice of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) varies substantially across nations. Much of this variability may be attributed to disparate international educational, licensing, and regulatory environments that govern the practice of osteopathy by nonphysicians. This is in contrast with the United States, where osteopathic physicians are trained to integrate OMT as part of comprehensive patient management.
