We present a rare case of pseudohyponatremia in a 20-year-old male patient with adult T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ATLL). The patient was admitted for a mediastinal mass with superior vena cava syndrome and was receiving pegaspargase therapy. The pseudohyponatremia was found to be secondary to hypertriglyceridemia associated with the pegaspargase treatment.

There is a pressing need for accessible biomarkers with high diagnostic accuracy for Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis to facilitate widespread screening, particularly in underserved groups. Saliva is an emerging specimen for measuring AD biomarkers, with distinct contexts of use that could complement blood and cerebrospinal fluid and detect various analytes. An interdisciplinary, international group of AD and related dementias (ADRD) researchers convened and performed a narrative review of published studies on salivary AD biomarkers.

This report discusses a significant complication following a hysterectomy performed in Mexico on a 46-year-old woman who developed an intra-abdominal abscess due to a retained surgical towel - a severe but rare surgical error. Initially, her post-surgical symptoms, such as abdominal pain, fever, and malaise, were dismissed by her surgeon in Mexico as typical recovery effects. However, as her condition worsened, she sought emergency care in Arizona.

The clinical outcome for children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a testimony to the success of modern medicine. Over the past few decades, survival has climbed from ∼10% to >90% for certain subgroups. Yet, the outcome for those with relapsed disease is often poor, and survivors struggle with a multitude of healthcare issues, some of which are lifelong.

We describe the impact of screening on outcomes of patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in an urban safety-net healthcare system compared to a non-screened cohort diagnosed with HCC. Patients diagnosed with HCC at John Peter Smith Health Network were identified by querying the hospital tumor registry and allocated to the screened cohort if they had undergone any liver imaging within one year prior to HCC diagnosis, while the remainder were allocated to the non-screened cohort. Kaplan-Meier methods and log-rank tests were used to compare 3-year survival curves from an index date of HCC diagnosis.

While this tumor typically presents in infancy or early childhood, there are published case reports of adult-onset ATRT. Making prognostic conclusions or therapeutic decisions for this older patient population remains challenging due to the paucity of these reports.

Animal models of early life stress/adversity (ELS) have provided a foundation from which our understanding of the psychoneuroimmunology of childhood trauma has expanded over recent decades. Rodent models are a cornerstone of the ELS literature with many studies utilizing paradigms based on early life separation/deprivation protocols and manipulating the cage environment. However, no animal model is perfect.

The prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) among adults has continued to increase over the last two decades, which has sparked a significant increase in research that focuses on the topic of "brain health." While AD is partially determined by a genetic predisposition, there are still numerous pathophysiological factors that require further research. This research requirement stems from the acknowledgment that AD is a multifactorial disease that to date, cannot be prevented.

: Diagnosis with a brain tumor is a critical event in the lives of patients and their families due to poor medical prognoses and complex clinical care. Spiritual care interventions have been known to have meaningful effects in morbid diagnoses and palliative medicine, but their role in the neuro-oncologic patient's experience is poorly understood. This systematic review explores the role of spirituality and its relevance to patient care in the diverse setting of brain tumors.
