The hybrid quantum system of cold atomic gas and optical cavity can host many exotic phenomena including phase transitions and multistabilities. In this Letter, we investigate the effect of photon hopping between two Dicke cavities and show rich quantum phases for steady states and dynamic processes. Starting from a generic dimer system where the two cavities are not necessarily identical, we analytically obtain all possible steady-state phases and confirm their existence by numerical calculations.

Recent thermodynamic and functional studies have been conducted to evaluate the impact of amino acid substitutions on Calmodulin (CaM). The Critical Assessment of Genome Interpretation (CAGI) data provider at University of Verona (Italy) measured the melting temperature (T) and the percentage of unfolding (%unfold) of a set of CaM variants (CaM challenge dataset). Thermodynamic measurements for the equilibrium unfolding of CaM were obtained by monitoring far-UV Circular Dichroism as a function of temperature.

Using a prion amplification assay, we identified prions in tissues from wild pigs (Sus scrofa) living in areas of the United States with variable chronic wasting disease (CWD) epidemiology. Our findings indicate that scavenging swine could play a role in disseminating CWD and could therefore influence its epidemiology, geographic distribution, and interspecies spread.

The study investigates the inhibitory properties of Mangiferin and Friedelin against glucokinase, DPP-IV, α-amylase, and α-glucosidase using computational methods, in vitro enzyme assays, and in-depth ADMET analysis. The study utilized a computer-aided drug design approach to assess the potential therapeutic properties of Mangiferin and Friedelin as T2DM therapeutic agents. Immune checkpoint inhibitors-associated vasculitis: a heterogeneous condition with possible severe disease course.

Objective: To describe presentation, treatment and outcome of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) associated-vasculitis in cancer patients in a multicentre study.

Methods: Thanks to the ImmunoCancer International Registry (ICIR), a multidisciplinary network focused on the research of the immune related adverse events related to cancer immunotherapies, patients presenting with a clinical and/or radiological suspicion of vasculitis, and histological evidence of vasculitis after being exposed to ICIs were retrospectively identified.

Results: Twenty eight cases were identified in the ICIR registry.

Atomically thin 2D materials present the potential for advancing membrane separations via a combination of high selectivity (from molecular sieving) and high permeance (due to atomic thinness). However, the creation of a high density of precise nanopores (narrow-size-distribution) over large areas in 2D materials remains challenging, and nonselective leakage from nanopore heterogeneity adversely impacts performance. Here, we demonstrate protein-enabled size-selective defect sealing (PDS) for atomically thin graphene membranes over centimeter scale areas by leveraging the size and reactivity of permeating proteins to preferentially seal larger nanopores (≥4 nm) while preserving a significant amount of smaller nanopores (via steric hindrance).

The current narrative of a "migration crisis" has so severely misdirected the understanding of the fundamental human safety, security, and health challenges that confront migrants, that we feel compelled to reframe the issue as a public health and humanitarian emergency. By looking at migrants as an economic threat or as an "invasion" that threatens the American way of life," it becomes difficult to view their humanity as vulnerable individuals who confront a host of challenges at the border, including abuse, dehumanization, and incarceration. The forced migration of thousands of individuals and families who flee their countries of origin to escape violence and insecurity to then be demonized and retraumatized at the border is a public health emergency.

The design and synthesis of photoactive metal-free 2D materials for selective heterogeneous photoredox catalysis continue to be challenging due to issues related to nonrecyclability, and limited photo- and chemical stability. Herein, we report the photocatalytic properties of a triazine-based porous COF, , which is found to be capable of facilitating both SET (single electron transfer) for photocatalytic reductive debromination of phenacyl bromide in absence of oxygen and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) for benzylamine photo-oxidation in the presence of oxygen, respectively, under visible light irradiation. Inspired by the latter results, we further systematically investigated different-sized benzylamine substrates in this single-component reaction and compared the results with an analogous COF () exhibiting a larger pore size.

Creating software tools that address the needs of a wide range of decision-makers requires the inclusion of differing perspectives throughout the development process. Software tools for biodiversity conservation often fall short in this regard, partly because broad decision-maker needs may exceed the toolkits of single research groups or even institutions. We show that participatory, collaborative codesign enhances the utility of software tools for better decision-making in biodiversity conservation planning, as demonstrated by our experiences developing a set of integrated tools in Colombia.
