Background: Cryolipolysis is an established method for noninvasive focal subcutaneous fat reduction.

Objectives: To highlight the safety and real-world use of this technology.

Methods: Electronic medical records of all patients treated with a commercially available cryolipolysis technology (CoolSculpting and CoolSculpting Elite, Allergan Aesthetics, Irvine, CA) between 01/2016 and to 06/2023 at a multi-location group practice was retrospectively reviewed.

Presented herein is the chemical construction of unprecedented 3,4-trans-3,6-anhydro hexofuranose frameworks. The disfavored 3,6-anhydro hexofuranosides were effectively established by Pd-catalyzed debenzylative intramolecular acetalation for the first time. The critical roles of benzyl protection and Pd as catalyst were demonstrated.

Background: Higher cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiovascular endurance (CE) have been shown to be neuroprotective in older adulthood, but the mechanisms underlying this neuroprotection across the adult lifespan are poorly understood. The current study sought to examine the neuroprotective effects of CRF on gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) volumes, and mean cortical thickness (MCT), using a large sample across the adult lifespan. We also examined sex differences in these relationships.

Phenolic Resin-type Microporous Organic Polymers for High-Performance Carbon Capture.

Three new types of Si-centered porous organic polymer (Si-POPs) were successfully prepared using phenolic resin-type chemistry to form C-C bonds. This new family of microporous Si-POPs manifests as uniform, microporous, spherical particles with a high specific surface area. Notably, Si-POPs were engineered to possess varying numbers of hydroxyl (-OH) groups by altering the monomer in the synthetic process.

Cortical Acetylcholine Response to Deep Brain Stimulation of the Basal Forebrain in Mice.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) using electrical stimulation of neuronal tissue in the basal forebrain to enhance release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine is under consideration to improve executive function in patients with dementia. While some small studies indicate a positive response in the clinical setting, the relationship between DBS and acetylcholine pharmacokinetics is incompletely understood. We examined the cortical acetylcholine response to different stimulation parameters of the basal forebrain.

A Comparison of Therapy Adherence for Vocal Fold Atrophy and Chronic Cough.

Introduction: Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is related to disproportionate unemployment and productivity burden in the USA. The current study describes real-world mental health (MH)-related disability days and costs of patients with TRD initiated on esketamine nasal spray or conventional therapies in the USA.

Methods: Adults with TRD were selected from Merative™ MarketScan Commercial database (from January 2016 to January 2023) and classified into four cohorts (esketamine, ECT [electroconvulsive therapy], TMS [transcranial magnetic stimulation], and SGA [second-generation antipsychotics] augmentation) based on therapy initiated (index date) on/after 5 March 2019 (esketamine approval date for TRD).

Background: Persisting post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) is a condition characterized by prolonged recovery from a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and compromised quality of life. Previous literature, on the basis of small sample sizes, concludes that there are several risk factors for the development of PPCS.

Systematic Review of the Epidemiology of Hair Relaxer Use and Hormone-Sensitive Reproductive Outcomes Among Black Adult Women in the United States.

Hair relaxers are predominantly used by Black women in the United States. It has been recently suggested that exposure to potential endocrine-disrupting compounds from the use of these products may be associated with the development of gynecological and breast cancers and anatomically relevant nonmalignancies. We conducted a systematic literature review using PubMed to identify original studies reporting measures of association between hair relaxer use and relevant adverse outcomes, focusing specifically on Black women in the United States.

Background: Cardiac Computed Tomography (CCT) is increasingly used for evaluation of congenital heart disease (CHD) in patients of all ages. Pediatric and adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) surgical programs require high quality CCT imaging as part of the multimodality imaging support expected of comprehensive care centers. Despite these expectations, there are no benchmarks or defined programmatic elements specific to the performance of CCT in patients with CHD.

Developments in robotic interventions have greatly affected the field of interventional radiology (IR), particularly when combined with imaging modalities such as fluoroscopy and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The aim of this review is to compare and evaluate the safety, precision, and clinical outcomes of fluoroscopy and CBCT-guided robotic interventions in IR. An extensive search of the literature on PubMed and Google Scholar databases was conducted up to November 2024.

Background And Objectives: Artificial intelligence (AI) has been gaining increasing interest in healthcare. During the 2024 International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Congress, the Clinical Transfusion Working Party (CTWP) conducted a session to explore the exciting intersection of AI in transfusion medicine (TM) practice, education and research. Antipsychotic Use in Older Adults With Dementia: Community and Nursing Facility Trends in Texas, 2015-2020.

Objectives: To assess recent trends in antipsychotic use among older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRDs) according to their residential status and determine the factors associated with the use of antipsychotics.

Design: Population-based, cross-sectional study using Texas Medicare Fee-for-Service data.

Setting And Participants: Individuals ≥ 65 years of age with ADRDs who had at least 3 months of Medicare Part A and B, and Part D for prescription drug coverage, in any year between 2015 and 2020.

Neurodevelopmental Outcomes after Fetoscopic Myelomeningocele Repair.

Objectives: To report the neurodevelopmental outcomes after a fetoscopic myelomeningocele (MMC) repair and to compare them with children who had an open-hysterotomy repair or a postnatal repair.

Study Design: 132 infants were included (prenatal repair: 93 [69 fetoscopic and 24 open-hysterotomy]; postnatal repair: 39). Neurodevelopmental outcomes at or beyond 18 months were evaluated by a developmental pediatrician using the Capute scales (Clinical Adaptive Test [CAT]/ Clinical Linguistic & Auditory Milestone Scale [CLAMS]) and/or during parental interview using Developmental Profile 3 (DP-3) test.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: The Association Between Newer Generation Antidepressants and Insomnia in Children and Adolescents With Major Depressive Disorder.

Objective: To examine the association between newer generation antidepressants and insomnia as an adverse event (AE) in the treatment of children and adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD).

Method: A systematic search was performed in major databases (inception to August 31, 2023) to retrieve double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the safety of 19 antidepressants in the acute treatment (initial 6 to 12 weeks) of children and adolescents aged ≤ 18 years with MDD (primary analyses). RCTs in anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) were retrieved from a recent meta-analysis and included in complementary analyses.

An individual's insights for success during an academic career are enhanced by observing successful long-term career academicians and staff members within our colleges/schools of pharmacy and across the academy. What are the reasons for these individual's success? Based upon observing these successful individuals, we propose five simple insights that can aid in navigating organizational subcultures and cultures. These insights include knowing their WHY, utilizing the 24-48-hour rule to maintain resilience, demonstrating basic courtesy and politeness in their interpersonal interactions, recognizing the impact of words in written communications, and optimizing the use of communication methods beyond email and text messages.

Advancing precision psychiatry and targeted treatments: Insights from immunopsychiatry.

Despite tremendous advancements in neuroscience, there has been limited impact on patient care. Current psychiatric treatments are largely non-specific, and drug development is hindered by outdated, overinclusive diagnostic categories and a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Management of Chronic Post-Endodontic Pain with a Standardized Gabapentin Pyramid Protocol: A Case Series and Clinical Guidelines.

Introduction: Persistent post-endodontic pain following endodontic therapy is a rare but substantial clinical challenge. Mechanisms that mediate peripheral neuropathy and/or central sensitization likely play a pivotal role in its development and chronification.
