Background: The RETREAT score is a simple risk stratification tool for post-liver transplantation (LT) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence that has been validated in retrospective cohort studies. A prospective, multicenter study is needed to further demonstrate accuracy especially given evolving clinical demographics and HCC transplant practice.
Aim: To validate and compare the RETREAT score to other post-LT HCC recurrence risk scores in a contemporary, prospective cohort of patients.

Purpose: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) presents a significant challenge in lung transplant recipients (LTR), even with prophylactic anticoagulation. Due to the heightened risk of complications in this population, the optimal treatment approach for acute PE remains uncertain. This retrospective case series aims to elucidate the outcomes of percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy with the Inari device (MT) and catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) in managing acute PE in lung transplant patients.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small non-coding RNAs which are associated with post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Dysfunction or aberrant expression of miRNAs is predominant in various malignancies including lung cancer. Lung cancer is one of the commonest causes of cancer-related death worldwide, with a five-year survival of only 10-20%.

Purpose: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) causes a wide range of unmet needs for cancer survivors. It is unknown which clinical, demographic, cognitive, and psychological factors underpin and account for these various unmet needs. This study aimed to (a) identify factors associated with CRCI-related unmet needs, and (b) establish the most pertinent factors that account for CRCI-related unmet needs.

Anxiety is a complex and heterogeneous condition consisting of multiple component processes and neural underpinnings. Recent neural accounts for anxiety have expanded beyond the canonical anxiety and fear circuitry centered on the amygdala to a distributed network. A burgeoning form of clinical intervention with remarkable potential to directly engage the neural substrates of anxiety is non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), which is especially notable for the ability to modulate macro- and meso-scopic circuits and networks.

Background: Discovering metabolomic markers of dietary potassium may help improve dietary assessment of potassium and trace the impact of dietary potassium on chronic kidney disease (CKD) development.
Methods: We included adults from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study without CKD at visit 1 (N = 3,812). Cross-sectional associations between dietary potassium and serum metabolites were assessed using multivariable linear regression models.

Biological targeting is crucial for effective cancer treatment with reduced toxicity but is limited by the availability of tumor surface markers. To overcome this, we developed a nanoparticle-based, Tumor-specific suRfACE maRker-independent (TRACER) targeting approach. Utilizing the unique biodistribution properties of nanoparticles, we encapsulated Ac4ManNAz to selectively label tumors with azide reactive groups.

Human circulation exhibits significant diversity and heterogeneity of blood vessel shapes. The complex architecture of these vessels may be physiological or pathological resulting in unique hemodynamics and endothelial cell phenotypes that may determine the regulation and alteration of cell signaling pathways and vascular function. While human microphysiological systems of blood vessels (vessel-chips) have mimicked several aspects of vascular pathophysiology, engineering of these tools is still limited to the fabrication of homogeneous tubular structures, especially when living endothelial cell culture is also included.

Background: The choice between free flaps and locoregional flaps for soft tissue reconstruction in oral cavity cancer patients is critical for determining long-term functional and oncological outcomes. This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of these reconstructive techniques, focusing on survival, recurrence, quality of life (QoL), and functional parameters such as speech, swallowing, and the need for gastrostomy or tracheostomy.
Methods: A systematic review adhering to PRISMA guidelines was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, and EBSCO databases.

Energy efficiency is a key component of movement strategy for many species. In fish, optimal swimming speed (Uopt) is the speed at which the mass-specific energetic cost to move a given distance is minimised. Additional factors may, however, influence an individual's preferred swimming speed (Upref).

Introduction: Despite the growing clinical use of dry needling (DN) among physical therapists in the United States and its gradual adoption into entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs, limited research exists on DN safety within educational settings. This study aims to report the type and incidence of adverse events (AEs) associated with DN instruction in DPT programs.
Review Of Literature: To date, there has been no reporting on DN-related AEs during DPT education, making the relative risk of DN education unclear.
As cells transition between periods of growth and quiescence, their metabolic demands change. During this transition, cells must coordinate changes in mitochondrial function with the induction of biosynthetic processes. Mitochondrial metabolism and nucleotide biosynthesis are key rate-limiting factors in regulating early growth.

Background And Purpose: Entry-level physical therapist education programs must adequately prepare graduates to effectively assess, manage, and/or refer patients with foundational integumentary/wound management (IWM) concerns in any population or setting. Unfortunately, the literature reports wide variations in the number of IWM contact hours in entry-level health professions education, as well as discrepancies in specific content covered. Standardization in curricular content through consensus-based curriculum guidelines decreases treatment variability and promotes safe, evidence-based practice across a profession.

The ILAE Neuroimaging Task Force publishes educational case reports that highlight basic aspects of neuroimaging in epilepsy, consistent with ILAE's educational mission. In patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy who are candidates for surgical intervention, the identification of structural abnormalities is a strong predictor of favorable postoperative seizure outcomes. When conventional imaging is insufficient, the integration of multimodal neuroimaging data with structural, metabolic, and functional imaging modalities is often helpful.

Whether allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (allo-HCT) to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is equitably accessible regardless of social determinants of health (SDOH) remains unknown. We examined associations of SDOH with access to allo-HCT and other outcomes. Patients presenting for treatment (n=692) at 13 AML treatment centers were prospectively recruited to a registered clinical trial (#NCT01929408).

Estimating effects of interventions is a central task in perioperative and critical care outcomes research. While randomized trials remain the accepted standard for causal inference, trial data are not always available to inform clinical decisions, and some questions cannot be answered feasibly or efficiently with trials. In these settings, studies using observational healthcare data may be used to inform practice.

Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widely used industrial compounds that have been identified as contaminants in almost every component of the global ecosystem, and in human studies, higher levels of PFAS have been correlated with increased incidence of multiple diseases. Based on the results of human and laboratory animal studies, we hypothesize that the orphan nuclear receptor 4A1 (NR4A1) may be a critical target for some PFAS such as the legacy linear polyfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) and other sulfonates. We show that PFOS and related compounds bound the ligand binding domain (LBD) of NR4A1 and induced the growth of several cancer cell lines and enhanced tumor growth in an athymic nude mouse model.
