Background: Evidence synthesis projects such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses are defined by the focal research question addressed through assemblage and analysis of all relevant literature. In complex intervention domains such as medical extended reality (MXR), there are a plethora of intervention factors that could be included in research questions, which define study inclusion criteria and, in turn, shape the generalizability of results. This article quantifies how recently published evidence syntheses of MXR interventions for pain management characterize the primary studies they assess.

Objective: Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is associated with burdensome side effects, including cognitive changes that require ongoing monitoring. Cognitive ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) allow for assessment of individual cognitive functioning in natural environments and can be administered via smartphones. Accordingly, we sought to establish the feasibility, reliability, and validity of a commercially available cognitive EMA platform.

VA National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Washington, DC, USA.
Background And Objectives: There is a large and growing population of older, formerly homeless adults living in permanent supportive housing, and there are concerns about how to address their healthcare needs. This study compared veterans aged 55 years and older residing in the Department of Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program to an age-matched group of independently housed veterans receiving care through the U.S.

Electroencephalography is instrumental in understanding neurophysiological mechanisms underlying working memory. While numerous studies have associated electroencephalography features to working memory, understanding causal relationships leads to better characterization of the neurophysiological mechanisms that are directly linked to working memory. Personalized causal modeling is a tool to discover these direct links between brain features and working memory performance.

Background: Predicting hemolysis numerically based on the power-law model using idealized coefficients obtained from simplified devices yields a large variability in hemolysis index predictions. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based Kriging surrogate modeling approach, developed by Craven et al. at the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), was applied to a Fontan cavopulmonary assist device (CPAD) to generate device-specific hemolysis power-law coefficients.

Background: Peripheral nerve blocks (PNBs) are frequently utilized as a regional anesthetic in pediatric orthopaedic surgery for postoperative pain control and reduced time to discharge; however, short- and long-term complications after these procedures are variably reported.
Purpose: To identify the frequency of long-term complications in pediatric patients who received regional anesthesia for a lower extremity orthopaedic procedure.
Study Design: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4.

We assessed whether there is an impactful glucose fraction independent of insulin secretion in autoantibody-positive individuals. Baseline 2-h oral glucose tolerance test data from the TrialNet Pathway to Prevention (TNPTP; = 6190) and Diabetes Prevention Trial-Type 1 (DPT-1; = 705) studies were used. Linear regression of area under the curve (AUC) glucose versus Index60 was performed to identify two fractions: dependent (dAUCGLU) or independent (iAUCGLU) of insulin secretion.

Background: Digital papillary adenocarcinoma (DPAC) is a rare but aggressive cutaneous malignant sweat gland neoplasm that occurs on acral sites. Despite its clinical significance, the cellular and genetic characteristics of DPAC remain incompletely understood.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive genomic and transcriptomic analysis of DPAC (n = 14) using targeted next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing, along with gene expression profiling employing the Nanostring Technologies nCounter IO 360 Panel.

Previous reports suggest that the menstrual cycle (MC) phases can impact cortisol concentrations. However, research is needed on whether the MC impacts other markers of stress and immune function. It has also been shown that some biomarkers are impacted by time of day, although differences between morning (AM) and afternoon (PM) biomarkers have not been studied over the course of the MC.

Adding inotuzumab ozogamicin (InO) to hyper-CVAD and blinatumomab may improve outcomes in newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-negative B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Patients with newly diagnosed B-ALL received up to four cycles of hyper-CVAD followed by four cycles of blinatumomab. Beginning with patient #39, InO 0.

Objectives: Psychological reactions in response to disasters have been associated with increased mental health (MH) symptomatology, decreased quality of life (QOL), and post-traumatic stress (PTSD). This study provides a rare opportunity to examine post disaster MH longitudinally in a sample of adolescents.
Methods: From 2018-20, adolescents (12-18 years, =228) were interviewed about disaster exposure, QOL using the Adolescent Quality of Life-Mental Health Scale (AQOL-MHS), psychological symptoms, and diagnoses.

Objective: Primary liver cancer (PLC) is projected to be the third leading cause of cancer mortality in the United States in 2040. We examine the burden of PLC in the United States, stratified by sex, state and aetiological risk factors.
Methods: Data on PLC prevalence, incidence, death and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021.

Chitosan is one of the most abundant biopolymers on earth. It is used as a nontoxic alternative in a wide range of medicines, packaging, adhesives, and flame retardants. Chitosan is poorly soluble in neutral or alkaline solutions, but it dissolves in solutions of weak acids, such as acetic acid or citric acid, both of which occur naturally.

Disturbances in kidney tubular cell metabolism are increasingly recognized as a feature of acute kidney injury (AKI). In AKI, tubular epithelial cells undergo abnormal metabolic shifts that notably disrupt NAD metabolism. Recent advancements have highlighted the critical role of NAD metabolism in AKI, revealing that acute disruptions may lead to lasting cellular changes, thereby promoting the transition to chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Despite guideline recommendations, transfer rates to high-volume aortic centers (high-VACs) for acute type A aortic dissections (TAAD) remain suboptimal; this may be because the benefit of undergoing surgical repair of TAAD at high-VACs remains poorly quantified. Medicare beneficiaries undergoing surgical repair of TAAD from 1999-2019 were identified. Hospital and surgeon annual aortic case volumes in Medicare beneficiaries were determined.

Technological innovations in genomics and related fields have facilitated large sequencing efforts, supported new biological discoveries in cancer, and spawned an era of liquid biopsy biomarkers. Despite these advances, precision oncology has practical constraints, partly related to cancer's biological diversity and spatial and temporal complexity. Advanced imaging technologies are being developed to address some of the current limitations in early detection, treatment selection and planning, drug delivery, and therapeutic response, as well as difficulties posed by drug resistance, drug toxicity, disease monitoring, and metastatic evolution.

The phase 2 LITESPARK-003 study was designed to determine the antitumour activity and safety of belzutifan in combination with cabozantinib in patients with advanced clear-cell renal cell carcinoma that was previously untreated (cohort 1) or previously treated with immunotherapy (cohort 2). Here, we report results from cohort 1 of this clinical trial.

Chorionic trophoblast cells (CTCs) are one of the principal components of the fetal membrane and join with the decidua to form a feto-maternal interface. Recent success in isolating CTCs dealt with two separate questions: (1) The necessity of highly enriched and defined media with inhibitors of oxidative stress and cell transition and their impact on growth and trophoblast phenotype, (2) The functional differences between CTCs and other placental trophoblast lineages of cells (placental cytotrophoblast cells [PTC], and extravillous trophoblast [EVT]). CTCs were cultured either in defined media with various inhibitors or in media from which inhibitors were removed individually.
