Wave-CAIPI Multiparameter MR Imaging in Neurology.

NMR Biomed

March 2025

Paul C. Lauterbur Research Center for Biomedical Imaging, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, China.

In clinical practice, particularly in neurology assessments, imaging multiparametric MR images with a single-sequence scan is often limited by either insufficient imaging contrast or the constraints of accelerated imaging techniques. A novel single scan 3D imaging method, incorporating Wave-CAIPI and MULTIPLEX technologies and named WAMP, has been developed for rapid and comprehensive parametric imaging in clinical diagnostic applications. Featuring a hybrid design that includes wave encoding, the CAIPIRINHA sampling pattern, dual time of repetition (TR), dual flip angle (FA), multiecho, and optional flow modulation, the WAMP method captures information on RF B1t fields, proton density (PD), T1, susceptibility, and blood flow.

The clinical relevance of TP53 mutations (TP53) in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and their prognostic interaction with MPN subtype designation has not been systematically studied. In the current study, 114 patients with MPN harboring TP53 (VAF ≥ 2%) were evaluated for overall survival (OS), calculated from the time of TP53 detection: chronic phase myelofibrosis (MF-CP; N = 61); blast-phase (MPN-BP; N = 31) or accelerated-phase (MPN-AP; N = 16) MPN, and polycythemia vera/essential thrombocythemia (PV/ET; N = 6). Sixty-five (57%) patients harbored International Consensus Classification (ICC)-defined multihit TP53 and 56 (49%) monosomal/complex karyotype (MK/CK).

Although many parents worry that their child will be the target of racial profiling, there is a dearth of literature on how parental worries about children facing racism are linked to racial socialization (RS) practices and youth internalizing symptoms. Additionally, it is unclear how RS content relative to competency may uniquely influence whether and how parental worries influence youth internalizing outcomes. Using data from 203 Black parents (M = 44.

PrP Glycoprotein Is Indispensable for Maintenance of Skeletal Muscle Homeostasis During Aging.

J Cachexia Sarcopenia Muscle

February 2025

Department of Bioactive Material Sciences, Research Center of Bioactive Materials, Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju, Republic of Korea.

Background: The cellular prion protein (PrP), a glycoprotein encoded by the PRNP gene, is known to modulate muscle mass and exercise capacity. However, the role of PrP in the maintenance and regeneration of skeletal muscle during ageing remains unclear.

Methods: This study investigated the change in PrP expression during muscle formation using C2C12 cells and evaluated muscle function in Prnp wild-type (WT) and knock-out (KO) mice at different ages (1, 9 and 15 months).

The increased cost and morbidity associated with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) place a substantial strain on the entire global healthcare system. In this trial, 24 subjects with a chronic DFU, Wagner grade 1 (University of Texas grade 1A), were treated with Standard of Care (SOC) therapy and randomized, one-half to receive advanced high-purity Type-I collagen-based skin substitute (HPTC; manufactured by Encoll Corp., Fremont, CA, USA), and the other half to receive a dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane (dHACM) or viable cryopreserved human placental membrane (vCHPM).

Contrastive learning with transformer for adverse endpoint prediction in patients on DAPT post-coronary stent implantation.

Front Cardiovasc Med

January 2025

Department of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL, United States.

Background: Effective management of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation is crucial for preventing adverse events. Traditional prognostic tools, such as rule-based methods or Cox regression, despite their widespread use and ease, tend to yield moderate predictive accuracy within predetermined timeframes. This study introduces a new contrastive learning-based approach to enhance prediction efficacy over multiple time intervals.

Cell surface protein-protein interaction profiling for biological network analysis and novel target discovery.

Life Med

August 2024

Institute of Pediatrics, Children's Hospital of Fudan University, and Shanghai Key Laboratory of Medical Epigenetics, International Co-laboratory of Medical Epigenetics and Metabolism, Ministry of Science and Technology, Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai 200032, China.

The secretome is composed of cell surface membrane proteins and extracellular secreted proteins that are synthesized via secretory machinery, accounting for approximately one-third of human protein-encoding genes and playing central roles in cellular communication with the external environment. Secretome protein-protein interactions (SPPIs) mediate cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation, as well as stimulus- or cell-specific responses that regulate a diverse range of biological processes. Aberrant SPPIs are associated with diseases including cancer, immune disorders, and illness caused by infectious pathogens.

The advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has transformed the management of advanced and high-risk renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In the adjuvant setting, ICIs, such as pembrolizumab, aim to reduce the risk of recurrence following potentially curative nephrectomy. However, this therapeutic approach introduces unique challenges, particularly related to immune-related adverse events (irAEs).

January 2025

Institute of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System, School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.

Urban sensing has become increasingly important as cities evolve into the centers of human activities. Large language models (LLMs) offer new opportunities for urban sensing based on commonsense and worldview that emerged through their language-centric framework. This paper illustrates the transformative impact of LLMs, particularly in the potential of advancing next-generation urban sensing for exploring urban mechanisms.

The advent of autonomous nanomotors presents exciting opportunities for nanodrug delivery. However, significant potential remains for enhancing the asymmetry of nanomotors and advancing the development of second near-infrared (NIR-II) light-propelled nanomotors capable of operating within deep tissues. Herein, we developed a dual-ligand assisted anisotropic assembly strategy that enables precise regulation of the interfacial energy between selenium (Se) nanoparticle and periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO).

Enantioselective Total Syntheses of Vallesamidine and Schizozygane Alkaloids.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, The University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, Texas 75080, United States.

A general streamlined strategy for the enantioselective total syntheses of the schizozygane family of natural products and related alkaloid vallesamidine is described. Specifically, a catalytic enantioconvergent cross-coupling sets the quaternary stereogenic center in a pluripotent intermediate adorned with an olefin and three orthogonal carboxylate groups, upon which the modularity of the synthesis relies. A late-stage catalytic oxidative lactamization of an alkyne is instrumental in the first-generation synthesis of the schizozygane alkaloids.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are secreted by almost all cell types and contain DNA, RNA, proteins, lipids and other metabolites. EVs were initially believed to be cellular waste but now recognized for their role in cell-to-cell communication. Later, EVs from immune cells were discovered to function similarly to their parent cells, paving the way for their use as gene and drug carriers.
