Background: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common vasculitis in patients older than 50 years and is considered a "do not miss" diagnosis. However, it remains a diagnostic challenge given overlapping clinical syndromes such as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and poorly explored imaging findings.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study between the time period of January 2013 and December 2021, a total of 13 consecutive patients with a pathological diagnosis of GCA and 8 patients with clinical diagnosis of NAION were isolated.

A systematic literature search was conducted across multiple electronic databases from inception to November 15, 2024, using comprehensive search strategies.

Developing an Annual Review of the Literature.

Many national meetings and speaker series feature an "Annual Review of the Literature" (ARL) session in which an individual or team presents a sampling of articles, selected and prepared because they represent important current topics or new ideas in the discipline of interest. Exploring Sex-Based Variations in Head Kinematics During Soccer Heading.

While studies indicate that females experience a higher concussion risk and more severe outcomes in soccer heading compared to males, comprehensive data on the underlying factors contributing to these sex-based differences are lacking. This study investigates the sex differences in the head-to-ball impact kinematics among college-aged soccer headers in a laboratory-controlled setting. Forty subjects (20 females, 20 males) performed ten headers, and impact kinematics, including peak angular acceleration and velocity (PAA, PAV) and peak linear acceleration (PLA), were measured using mouthguards.

Contributions of repetitive element transcription towards cancer initiation, and the mechanisms by which cancer cells evade lethal viral mimicry responses during tumor initiation remain poorly understood.

Exploring novel inhibitors for Babesia bigemina lactate dehydrogenase: a computational structural biology perspective.

Babesia bigemina is an apicomplexan parasite responsible for causing "Texas fever" in bovines. Current treatments for bovine babesiosis are hindered by several limitations, including toxicity, insufficient efficacy in eliminating the parasite, and the potential for resistance development. Local flap guidance for scalp reconstruction following Mohs micrographic surgery.

Keratinocyte carcinomas (KCs) are commonly located on the scalp and often treated with excision with peripheral and deep en face margin assessment (PDEMA), with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) being the most frequently used method. Resection of these malignancies results in wounds with a wide variety of sizes, ranging from small, sub-centimeter defects, to extensive, nearly complete scalp defects. MMS is often the preferred treatment for tumor resection and margin clearance, as it allows for maximal healthy tissue preservation and has the lowest recurrence rates.

The effect of exercise and physical activity on skeletal muscle epigenetics and metabolic adaptations.

Physical activity (PA) and exercise elicit adaptations and physiological responses in skeletal muscle, which are advantageous for preserving health and minimizing chronic illnesses. The complicated atmosphere of the exercise response can be attributed to hereditary and environmental variables. The primary cause of these adaptations and physiological responses is the transcriptional reactions that follow exercise, whether endurance- (ET) or resistance- training (RT).

Cost-Effectiveness of a Polypill for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in an Underserved Population.

Importance: The Southern Community Cohort Study (SCCS) Polypill Trial showed that a cardiovascular polypill (a single pill containing a statin and 3 half-standard dose antihypertensive medications) effectively controls cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in a majority Black race and low-income population. The cost-effectiveness of polypill treatment in this population has not been previously studied.
