The International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) guidelines represent a rich repository that serves as the only comprehensive set of clinical recommendations for children, adolescents, and young adults living with diabetes worldwide. This chapter builds on the 2022 ISPAD guidelines, and summarizes recent advances in the technology behind glucose monitoring, and its role in glucose-responsive integrated technology that is feasible with the use of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems in children and adolescents.

Maximizing the sorption capacity of gaseous Hg by sulfur-functionalized biochar can lead to increased energy consumption and the production of secondary environmental pollutants such as greenhouse gases. This study evaluates the environmental impact of producing sulfurized biochar through a life cycle assessment (LCA), weighing these impacts against the benefits of enhanced Hg removal efficiencies. The biochar's Hg adsorption capacity, which ranges between 3 and 22 μg-Hg/g-biochar, is influenced by several factors: it increases with higher sulfur loading (0-15 %), higher O levels (0-21 %), and longer pyrolysis times (1-5 h).

Objectives: To develop a more robust understanding of the relationship between increased recreational marijuana access and opioid overdose deaths. Increasing opioid-related deaths in conjunction with the rising popularity of liberalized marijuana laws make additional research examining the interrelation of both a timely and insightful question.
Study Design: We use synthetic control method to assess the impact of opening recreational marijuana dispensaries via recreational marijuana legalization (RML) on opioid death rates in Colorado, Washington, and Oregon.

Objectives: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a thrombotic microangiopathy associated with severe deficiency in ADAMTS13. ADAMTS13 deficiency may be secondary to absent or dysfunctional protein production due to mutations in the ADAMTS13 gene (congenital TTP) or autoantibody-mediated clearance and/or inhibition (immune-mediated TTP). This autoimmunity may, albeit rarely, occur secondary to certain medications (eg, ticlopidine).

One bottleneck of MRI-guided Online Adaptive Radiotherapy (MRoART) is the time-consuming daily online replanning process. The current leaf sequencing method takes up to 10 minutes, with potential dosimetric degradation and small segment openings that increase delivery time. This work aims to replace this process with a fast deep learning-based method to provide deliverable MLC sequences almost instantaneously, potentially accelerating and enhancing online adaption.

Emerging evidence indicates that delayed CAR T-cell infusion, including prolonged time from leukapheresis to infusion, known as vein-to-vein time (V2Vt), may adversely impact clinical outcomes. We conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) and meta-analysis to identify differences in V2Vt in patients with R/R LBCL treated with axi-cel, tisa-cel, or liso-cel.

Background: Few studies have explored the relationship between macronutrient intake and sleep outcomes using daily data from mobile apps.
Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the associations between macronutrients, dietary components, and sleep parameters, considering their interdependencies.
Methods: We analyzed data from 4825 users of the Pokémon Sleep and Asken smartphone apps, each used for at least 7 days to record objective sleep parameters and dietary components, respectively.

Background And Objectives: Mitochondrial disorders are multiorgan disorders resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to characterize death-associated factors in an international cohort of deceased individuals with mitochondrial disorders.
Methods: This cross-sectional multicenter observational study used data provided by 26 mitochondrial disease centers from 8 countries from January 2022 to March 2023.

Case: We present a 42-year-old man who developed extensive left lower extremity arterial thrombosis following COVID-19 pneumonia. Despite multiple revascularization attempts and a below-knee amputation, he faced wound necrosis and insufficient soft tissue coverage. An innovative approach using a pedicled flap and sequential flow-through free flaps was used for limb salvage.

Although nucleoporin 98 (NUP98) fusion oncogenes often drive aggressive pediatric leukemia by altering chromatin structure and expression of HOX genes, underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we report that a Hoxb-associated lncRNA HoxBlinc was aberrantly activated in NUP98-PHF23 fusion-driven leukemias. HoxBlinc chromatin occupancies led to elevated MLL1 recruitment and aberrant homeotic topologically associated domains (TADs) that enhanced chromatin accessibilities and activated homeotic/hematopoietic oncogenes.

Background: Arteriovenous (AV) fistulas are the preferred access for dialysis but have a high incidence of failure. This study aims to understand the crosstalk between skeletal muscle catabolism and AV fistula maturation failure.
Methods: Skeletal muscle metabolism and AV fistula maturation were evaluated in mice with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

The development of clinical practice guidelines is an evolving field. In response to the need for consistent, evidence-based medical practice, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society identified the need to update the Society's guideline development process. The American Clinical Neurophysiology Society Guidelines Committee created an action plan with the goal of improving transparency and rigor for future guidelines and bringing existing guidelines to current standards.

Importance: Triple-negative breast cancer is an aggressive subtype with a high incidence in young patients, a high incidence in non-Hispanic Black women, and a high risk of progression to metastatic cancer, a devastating sequela with a 12- to 18-month life expectancy. Until recently, one strategy for treating early-stage triple-negative breast cancer was chemotherapy after surgery. However, it was not known whether the addition of immune therapy to postsurgery chemotherapy would be beneficial.

Do unions facilitate or hamper the effectiveness of high-performance work systems (HPWS)? Despite the long-standing interest among labor and human resource scholars on this matter, relevant studies are limited and dated. This research investigates whether and how the interplay between HPWS and unions affects both organizational performance and employee well-being outcomes. The authors argue while unions may attenuate the HPWS effects on organizational performance due to decreased performance climate, the overall impacts of unions are likely beneficial, as they facilitate cooperative climate that contributes to organizational performance and enhances employee well-being, which positively affects longer term organizational outcomes.

Background: People with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) commonly report a higher fatigue intensity than the general population. However, effective fatigue management is lacking because little is known about other fatigue characteristics, including timing, distress, and quality, as well as the potential fatigue subtypes experienced in people with T2DM.
Objective: To describe fatigue intensity, timing, distress, and quality, and identify fatigue subtypes in people with T2DM.

Chronic itch in older patients is a common problem, with a significant impact on quality of life. Chronic itch in the older population may be attributable to several causes, such as age-related changes, skin conditions, systemic conditions, medications, and psychological conditions. Given the complexity of itch in this population, comorbidities, and polypharmacy in most geriatric patients, treating chronic itch can be challenging for healthcare providers.

There is limited information and guidance for physicians transitioning from one academic institution to another. The following recommendations serve as a resource for academic faculty interested in moving to a different academic institution. The advice falls into three categories of preparation: self-reflection and discernment to determine personal preferences and professional priorities; considerations when preparing for an academic faculty interview; and aspects of the offer, opportunity, and negotiables to discern whether it is right.

In recent years a number of adverse effects have been observed to be associated with this therapy, the most notable of which is hyperglycemia. A literature search was conducted to include case studies, case series, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses within the last 10 years that evaluated patients with mutated hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative metastatic breast cancer.
