Is calcification integral to enthesopathy and tendinopathy rather than a separate disease process?

Background: The pathophysiology of enthesopathy and tendinopathy is mucoid degeneration, which includes chondroid metaplasia. The chondroid metaplasia can be associated with calcification. Inflammation is typically absent unless calcification triggers a self-limited immune response representing acute calcific tendinitis.

The mother-infant bond is among the strongest social relationships formed in humans and nonhuman mammals. As such, disrupted infant-caregiver relationships have the capacity to result in potent adverse effects not only in the offspring, but also in the mother. Here, I provide a brief overview of my prior work showing adversity-induced alterations in offspring and maternal behavioral and brain function.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have advanced as a mainstay among the most promising cancer therapeutics, offering enhanced antigen targeting and encompassing wide diversity in their linker and payload components. Small-molecule inhibitors of tubulin polymerization have found success as payloads in FDA approved ADCs and represent further promise in next-generation, pre-clinical and developmental ADCs. Unique dual-mechanism payloads (previously designed and synthesized in our laboratories) function as both potent antiproliferative agents and promising vascular disrupting agents capable of imparting selective and effective damage to tumor-associated microvessels.

Transdisciplinary perspectives for health systems science.

Health systems science uses systems thinking as part of a transdisciplinary approach that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. It integrates and synthesizes knowledge from multiple disciplines to address real-world problems in healthcare with pragmatic solutions. This editorial defines health systems from the perspectives of systems thinking, science, and engineering, discusses their current challenges and opportunities, and envisions how health systems science as a field can advance the continuous learning and improvement of health systems.

Background: Specific cancer treatments can lead to cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD). Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) can potentially prevent these cardiotoxic effects.

Objectives: This study sought to determine whether SGLT2i use is associated with a lower incidence of CTRCD in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cancer, exposed to potentially cardiotoxic antineoplastic agents, and without a prior documented history of cardiomyopathy or heart failure.

The dual impact of education and occupation on cognitive functioning in older Mexican adults: A cross-sectional exploratory study.

This research investigated the relationship between cognitive performance and an individual's educational attainment as well as occupational mental demands among Mexican adults aged 50 or older. We hypothesized that cognitively demanding work boosts cognitive performance for older adults regardless of their education level. To test our hypothesis, we analyzed data on 12,939 individuals in the 2012 Mexican Health and Aging Study using a Generalized Linear Model with a Gaussian family and identity link function.

Nanofibrous Peptide Hydrogels Leveraging Histidine to Modulate pH-Responsive Supramolecular Assembly and Antibody Release.

In this work, we investigate the pH-responsive behavior of multidomain peptide (MDP) hydrogels containing histidine. Small-angle X-ray scattering confirmed that MDP nanofibers sequester nonpolar residues into a hydrophobic core surrounded by a shell of hydrophilic residues. MDPs with histidine on the hydrophilic face formed nanofibers at all pH values tested, but the morphology of the fibers was influenced by the protonation state and the location of histidine in the MDP sequence.

Atypical Small Cell Lung Cancer: A New Malignancy Characterized by Chromothripsis, Carcinoid Tumors, and Wild-type RB1 and TP53.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and pulmonary carcinoid tumors are traditionally seen as unrelated, with SCLC linked to smoking and characterized by biallelic loss of RB1 and TP53 and rapid progression. Rekhtman and colleagues upend these assumptions by discovering an "atypical" SCLC that arises in nonsmokers with intact RB1 and TP53 loci, chromothripsis-induced oncogene amplifications on extrachromosomal DNA, and frequent synchronous carcinoid tumors. The exponential growth of the cancer neuroscience field has shown that the host's immune, vascular, and nervous systems communicate with and influence each other in the tumor microenvironment, dictating the cancer malignant phenotype. The Mediating Role of Social Support on COVID-19 Concern and Self-Rated Physical Health of Older Adults in the United States.
