Many aspects of human performance require producing sequences of items in serial order. The current study takes a multiple-case approach to investigate whether the system responsible for serial order is shared across cognitive domains, focusing on working memory (WM) and word production. Serial order performance in three individuals with post-stroke language and verbal WM disorders (hereafter persons with aphasia, PWAs) were assessed using recognition and recall tasks for verbal and visuospatial WM, as well as error analyses in spoken and written production tasks to assess whether there was a tendency to produce the correct phonemes/letters in the wrong order.

Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, El Paso. Claudia Dubocq-Ortiz is from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Medical School Campus, San Juan. Dr. Vasquez is from the Department of Dermatology, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas.

Despite having an overall lower lifetime risk for skin cancer, Latine/Hispanic individuals experience increased morbidity and mortality in skin cancer outcomes compared to non-Hispanic White individuals. The reasons for these disparate outcomes are multifactorial, but challenges in early skin cancer detection, limited awareness of risks, and inequitable access to care and/or treatment among this patient population likely are contributory. In this article, we review cutaneous malignancies in the Latine/Hispanic population and explore factors that impact overall prognosis, including unique clinical features, inadequate health coverage, medical mistrust, language barriers, differing cultural perspectives, and inadequate research.

Conventionally, the size, shape, and biomechanics of cartilages are determined by their voluminous extracellular matrix. By contrast, we found that multiple murine cartilages consist of lipid-filled cells called lipochondrocytes. Despite resembling adipocytes, lipochondrocytes were molecularly distinct and produced lipids exclusively through de novo lipogenesis.

Introduction: Measurement of repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) is necessary to realize the full potential of positron emission tomography (PET). Several studies have evaluated the reproducibility of PET using 18F-FDG, the most common PET tracer used in oncology, but similar studies using other PET tracers are scarce. Even fewer assess agreement and R&R with statistical methods designed explicitly for the task.

Introduction: Those with established symptomatic cardiopulmonary disease should attend secondary prevention programs. Attendance at these programs is known to differ by sex and by smoking status, with females and those who smoke being less likely to attend. However, little is known about whether the risk factors of being female and smoking are cumulative, and how outcomes from secondary prevention differ by these subgroups.

tRNA modifications are critical for several aspects of their functions, including decoding, folding, and stability. Using a multifaceted approach encompassing eCLIP-seq and nanopore tRNA-seq, we show that the human tRNA methyltransferase TRMT1L interacts with the component of the Rix1 ribosome biogenesis complex and binds to the 28S rRNA as well as to a subset of tRNAs. Mechanistically, we demonstrate that TRMT1L is responsible for catalyzing N2,N2-dimethylguanosine (mG) solely at position 27 of tRNA-Tyr-GUA.

Historically the physiological or pathological loss of tooth structure in situ was deemed to be due to the 'absorption' of tooth structure due to the removal of the inorganic components of dentin and cementum by osteoclastic (dentinoclastic) cellular activity. This nomenclature and the activity that it represented was considered by almost all dental researchers and clinicians in the 1800s and early 1900s. The shift to the concept of 'resorption' occurred in the first half of the 20th century, with clarity emanating from significant research activity on the pathology of osseous structures, origin of osteoclastic cell types, and the function of periodontal ligament cells.

A unique type of advertising trade card was popular in Europe, mostly Belgium, between 1840 and 1865. These cards were produced with a coating of a white lead substance that gave them a lustrous appearance and feel, resembling porcelain. As attractive as these cards were, producing them oftentimes resulted in lead poisoning for the printers, so few were produced after 1865.

Department of Neuroscience, Center for Learning and Memory, Waggoner Center for Alcohol & Addiction Research, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX 78712.

While traditionally studied for their proapoptotic functions in activating the caspase, research suggests BH3-only proteins also have other roles such as mitochondrial dynamics regulation. Here, we find that EGL-1, the BH3-only protein in , promotes the cell-autonomous production of exophers in adult neurons. Exophers are large, micron-scale vesicles that are ejected from the cell and contain cellular components such as mitochondria.

The effects of T cell differentiation arising from immune checkpoint inhibition targeting cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) and programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) on the immunological memory response remain unclear. Our investigation into the effects of anti-CTLA-4 and anti-PD-1 on memory T cell formation in mice reveals that memory T cells generated by anti-CTLA-4 exhibit greater expansion, cytokine production, and antitumor activity than those from anti-PD-1. Notably, anti-CTLA-4 preserves more T cell factor-1 (TCF-1)+ T cells during priming, while anti-PD-1 leads to more thymocyte selection-associated high mobility group box (TOX)+ T cells.
