Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) with subsequent bone metastasis is associated with a poor prognosis compared with patients who do not develop bone metastasis. However, metastasis in bone is rare, contrasted with more common locations such as the liver and lungs. As a result, the treatment methods targeting CRC bone lesions are limited.

Circulating Tumor DNA in Gastric Adenocarcinoma: Future Clinical Applications and Perspectives.

Int J Mol Sci

May 2023

Oncology Unit, Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, 20122 Milan, Italy.

Gastric cancer (GC) is still one of the most aggressive cancers with a few targetable alterations and a dismal prognosis. A liquid biopsy allows for identifying and analyzing the DNA released from tumor cells into the bloodstream. Compared to tissue-based biopsy, liquid biopsy is less invasive, requires fewer samples, and can be repeated over time in order to longitudinally monitor tumor burden and molecular changes.

Purpose: To develop a questionnaire with standardized questions and images about visual symptoms and satisfaction administered before and after cataract surgery with monofocal and various (premium) intraocular lenses (IOLs).

Design: A prospective, observational study of cataract surgery patients completing a self-administered questionnaire preoperatively and postoperatively at 4 to 6 months.

Participants: Five hundred fifty-four patients with plans to undergo implantation of the same IOL in both eyes on separate occasions in 20 ophthalmology practices.

Purpose: To develop a standardized patient-reported outcome measure of visual perceptions and symptoms for implanted premium and monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs).

Design: Observational study before and after IOL implants to assess the measure and symptom experience.

Participants: Adults scheduled for binocular implantation of the same IOL type completed the survey at baseline prior to surgery (n = 716) and postoperatively (n = 554).

At a systemic level, organizations need to take intentional steps to build inclusion, equity, and diversity at all levels. In accordance with this need, organizations have been catalyzed by national conversations surrounding gender and racial/ethnic discrimination to generate sustainable change that addresses the disenfranchisement of women and racial/ethnic minorities. Although progress toward addressing the systemic issues that perpetuate these inequities has been made in recent years, research indicates that underrepresentation at the leadership level persists in academic medicine.

Use of P1-P4 Purkinje reflections as a surrogate sign for intraoperative patient fixation.

J Cataract Refract Surg

December 2021

From Vance Thompson Vision, Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Thompson), Department of Ophthalmology, University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, Vermillion, South Dakota (Thompson), Department of Ophthalmology, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas (Holladay), Centricity Vision Inc., Carlsbad, California (Sretavan).

Circumferential, even anterior capsular overlap maximizes intraocular lens stability and posterior capsular opacification mitigation and provides best long-term outcomes for the cataract patient. P1 and P4 Purkinje reflections at patient fixation may provide a reliable marker for capsulotomy centration. However, patient fixation may be hindered during surgery because of anesthesia or light sensitivity.

The accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) calculations is suboptimal for long or short eyes, which results in a low visual quality after multifocal IOL implantation. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the accuracy of IOL formulas (Barrett Universal II, SRK/T, Holladay 1, Hoffer Q, and Haigis) for the Acrysof IQ Panoptix TFNT IOL (Alcon Laboratories, Inc, Fort Worth, Texas, United States) implantation based on the axial length (AXL) from a large cohort of 2018 cases and identify the factors that are associated with a high mean absolute error (MAE). The Barrett Universal II showed the lowest MAE in the normal AXL group (0.

Leaders and team development practitioners working toward increasing interprofessional team effectiveness frequently need to quickly and accurately determine the extent to which a team possesses the most essential and foundational components required for effective teamwork. While there is no shortage of team theories, there are few freely available, practical, short, and well-developed surveys to measure team functioning across a variety of team types. We developed a 9-item team assessment to fill this gap in the literature, measuring the most fundamental criteria for optimising team functioning, based on Hackman's widely used framework of the foundational conditions for team effectiveness.
