Exhausted T cell (Tex) is a specific state of T cell dysfunction, in which these T cells gradually lose their effector function and change their phenotype during chronic antigen stimulation. An emerging biomarker of blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability is the time of exchange (Tex) of water from the blood to tissue, as measured by multi-echo arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI. This new non-invasive sequence, already tested in mice, has recently been adapted to humans and optimized for clinical scanning time. In this study, we studied the normal variability of Tex over age and sex, which needs to be established as a reference for studying changes in neurological disease.

Popliteal artery pseudoaneurysms are rare, especially from acupuncture-related trauma. We report a 67-year-old male with hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), who developed a popliteal pseudoaneurysm after acupuncture. Imaging confirmed the pseudoaneurysm and a 55 mm AAA.

Methods: A voluntary, anonymous electronic survey was distributed to medical students through the Thoracic Surgery Medical Student Association. The survey included 28 questions across 4 domains: demographic information, current mentorship status, goals and qualities sought in mentorship, and self-reported barriers to mentorship.

Background: We have developed a model aimed at identifying preoperative predictors of operative mortality in patients who undergo elective, open thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) repair. We converted this model into an intuitive nomogram to aid preoperative counseling.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 2884 elective, open TAAA repairs performed between 1986 and 2023 in a single practice.

Objective: To investigate the influence of cannabis consumption on the mid- and long-term surgical outcomes of patients with aortic aneurysms or dissections.
Methods: All individuals aged 18 years and older with more than 6 months of cannabis use at the time of surgical repair for cardiovascular disease (aortic aneurysms or aortic dissection) between 2007 and 2023 were eligible. Patients were stratified into 2 groups based on their preoperative history of cannabis use: cannabis users and noncannabis users.

CD8 T cell exhaustion (Tex) has been widely acknowledged in human cancer, while the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that reduced amino acid (aa) metabolism and mTOR inactivation are accountable for Tex in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). NSCLC cells impede the T cell-intrinsic transcription of SLC7A5 and SLC38A1, disrupting aa transport and consequently leading to mTOR inactivation.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of scleral-fixated intraocular lenses (IOLs) implanted using either Yamane technique or Gore-Tex suture fixation, in comparison to intracapsular lens fixation, and to assess the efficacy of various lens formulas in achieving predicted refractive targets.
Patients And Methods: This study included 45 eyes from 44 patients with scleral-fixated IOLs, comprising 37 Yamane eyes and 8 Gore-Tex eyes. Preoperative refractive predictions from various formulae were compared with final postoperative refraction.
