Different studies have shown that mutations occurring in various exons are cardioprotective or increase cardiac involvement in DMD cases.

CT navigation-assisted intraoral extraction of large submandibular gland stones: a minimally invasive approach.

Sialolithiasis is a common cause of salivary gland obstruction, leading to symptoms such as pain and swelling. In cases of intraparenchymal submandibular stones and proximal ductal stones larger than 7 mm, interventional sialendoscopy may fail, necessitating sialoadenectomy. As an alternative, intraoral stone extraction can be performed with CT-guided navigation.

External Auditory Canal Transillumination-Guided Middle Fossa Approaches: An Anatomical Feasibility Study.

Background And Objectives: The middle fossa approaches are tremendously versatile for treating small vestibular schwannomas, selected petroclival meningiomas, midbasilar trunk aneurysms, and lesions of the petrous bone. Our aim was to localize the internal acoustic canal and safely drill the petrous apex with these approaches. This study demonstrates a new method to locate the internal acoustic canal during surgery in the middle fossa.

Lymphedema, Fatigue, and Quality of Life in Breast Cancer Survivors with Axillary Lymph Node Dissection.

Health-related quality of life (QOL) has gained importance due to the increasing incidence of breast cancer and the survival rate of breast cancer patients. We aimed to investigate the relationship between lymphedema, fatigue, and QOL in breast cancer survivors with axillary lymph node dissection. A total of 122 female breast cancer survivors with axillary lymph node dissection who applied to the oncology center of a teaching and research hospital between April 1, 2022, and July 1, 2022, were included in the cross-sectional study.

Background: Volunteering is a type of support that provides high motivation and supports social participation during the active aging process without any financial reward. Volunteering services provided by an active older person not only provide free services to the community where needed but also help individuals feel valued by creating a social environment, thereby increasing their resilience. [Multicentric Screening of Local Antibiotic Resistance in Uncomplicated Urinary System Infections: 1850 Patients from 37 Centers].

This study was aimed to identify the most frequently observed pathogens in uncomplicated urinary tract infections from outpatient urinary isolates obtained across seven different geographical regions in Türkiye and to determine whether the antibiotic resistance rates of these pathogens differ significantly between these regions. The study included patients aged 18 to 65 years who were diagnosed with uncomplicated urinary tract infections and had positive urine cultures from March 2021 to August 2022, across 37 different centers in Türkiye. The participating centers were selected based on their use of the disk diffusion method, in line with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines, to ensure standardization of urine culture data.

Response rates of pazopanib therapy in metastatic soft tissue sarcoma using real‑world data.

The present study was a retrospective single-center study. A total of 81 patients diagnosed with metastatic soft tissue sarcoma were included who received pazopanib therapy. Clinical data, including age at diagnosis, histological subtype, treatments received before pazopanib, number of metastatic sites at the time of initiation of treatment, progression-free survival and overall survival time under pazopanib treatment, side effects and response evaluation in follow-up imaging after initiation of pazopanib therapy, were recorded.

Activity of CDK4/6 inhibitors and parameters affecting survival in elderly patients in age-subgroups: Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) retrospective study.

Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Evaluation of the update for screening for retinopathy of prematurity in a tertiary care center in Türkiye with retrospective cohorts.

Assessment of dyslipidemia management in Turkey using a Delphi panel.

This study evaluated the management of dyslipidemia in Turkey with the goal of understanding current diagnosis and treatment patterns, as well as identifying unmet needs in achieving effective low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets. Using a Delphi panel consisting of nine expert cardiologists, the study reveals key gaps in dyslipidemia management, particularly in the underutilization of combination therapies, such as statins and PCSK9 inhibitors, which are crucial for achieving LDL-C targets in high-risk patients. The findings indicate that while many patients with very high cardiovascular risk are diagnosed, a significant proportion do not receive optimal treatment to reach LDL-C levels recommended by European guidelines.

Enhancing nutritional care in palliative care units: assessing nurse knowledge and quality perception in enteral nutrition practices.

Background: Adequate, balanced, and individualized nutrition, planned according to the patients' life expectancy in palliative care units, is crucial for maintaining essential functions.

Aim: To determine the knowledge levels of nurses working in palliative care units regarding enteral nutrition practices and their perceptions of nutritional care quality in their units.

Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 25 palliative care units located in Izmir, Türkiye, between June and September 2022.

Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Dissection: A European Multicentre Cross-Sectional Evaluation.

Background: A multicentre European randomized control trial - European Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Repair (EU-TBAR) is being developed to compare pre-emptive thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) with custom-made devices versus conventional optimal medical therapy. The pretrial set-up is confluent on different pillars, including evaluation of 1) European activity, trends, and governance; 2) outcome reporting; and 3) cost evaluation. This article aimed to demonstrate the observational cross-sectional survey results from participating centers and highlight the risk assessment, activity, practices, and governance of uncomplicated type B aortic dissection (uTBAD).

Differential diagnosis of submucosal gastric tumors: gastric schwannomas misdiagnosed as GISTs.

Schwannomas commonly occur in the head and neck region but are rarely seen in the gastrointestinal tract; the stomach and small intestine are the most commonly involved sites. These tumors are usually misdiagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) before histopathological confirmation due to radiological similarity. GI schwannomas show positivity for S100 protein and vimentin but are negative for CD 117 and CD 34, which helps in differentiating the tumor from GISTs.

Risk factors for neurologic sequelae in children and adolescents with hemophilia after intracranial hemorrhage.

Background: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is reportedly rare but has high morbidity and mortality risk in persons with hemophilia. Although the risk factors that facilitate bleeding are known, the factors affecting the sequelae are not well known.

Inhibitor development upon switching from plasma-derived to recombinant factor VIII in previously untreated patients with severe hemophilia A: the PUP-SWITCH study.

Background: The SIPPET randomized clinical trial showed that in previously untreated patients (PUPs) with severe hemophilia A, treatment with plasma-derived factor (F)VIII (pdFVIII) within the first 50 exposure days (EDs) was associated with a lower cumulative incidence of inhibitors than with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII). Switching to rFVIII beyond 50 EDs with pdFVIII is a treatment often implemented by many centers. The question is whether or not this switch may induce a risk of inhibitor development.

Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome Score.

Background: Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) is a common leg injury in military personnel and athletes and is especially related to running and jumping. A patient-reported outcome measure, the MTSS score, was developed to determine the severity of MTSS.

Purpose: To translate, culturally adapt, and validate the MTSS score for the Turkish language.

Hydatid disease: imaging, treatment, and beyond.

Hydatidosis is an endemic parasitic disease that can occur in almost any part of the body. It presents in two different forms according to the type of tapeworm: Echinococcus granulosus (hydatid disease [HD]) and Echinococcus multilocularis (alveolar HD). Radiological imaging can reveal the type of cyst, disease activity and progression, and complications, with features depending on the HD stage, the organ involved, and complications.

Monitoring the effect of antiviral treatment on the development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in chronic hepatitis B patients.

Objective: Despite the availability of treatment and vaccines for chronic hepatitis B infection, it remains a public health problem. The use of nucleos(t)ide antiviral agents is effective in preventing complications such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, but despite the reduction, the risk persists. The objective of this study was to assess alterations in aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index and Fibrosis-4 scores and examine the effectiveness of risk estimates for HCC in chronic hepatitis B scores in predicting the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma among chronic hepatitis B patients undergoing prolonged antiviral treatment.

Giant Metastatic Intracardiac Malignant Fibrous Tumor Presenting with Supraventricular Tachycardia: A Case Report.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare neoplasms originating from fibroblastic mesenchymal cells. This case report details a 43-year-old female patient with cardiac SFT, a rarity in the medical literature, who presented with palpitations and a known malignancy. Supraventricular tachycardia was diagnosed in the emergency department, and a subsequent echocardiography revealed a giant mass in the left atrium after sinus rhythm restoration.
