Self-effectiveness and healthy lifestyle behaviors in adolescents with asthma.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the self-efficacy and healthy lifestyle behavior levels in adolescents with asthma.

Materials And Methods: Socio-demographic questionnaire form, questions about adherence to asthma medication, asthma control test, healthy lifestyle behaviors scale, and self-efficacy scale for children and adolescents with asthma were administered to 150 patients whom age range between 12-18, in follow up with asthma in the pediatric allergy outpatient clinic.

Results: There was no statistically significant relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviors scale and self-efficacy scale scores between adolescents with controlled and uncontrolled asthma.

Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome in Childhood Hematological/Oncological Diseases: Multicenter Results.

The aim of the study was to analyze the characteristics of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) cases treated at 10 different institutions in our country. Fifty-eight patients diagnosed with PRES were included in this study. The data of PRES cases from 10 departments of pediatric hematology/oncology were analyzed.

Can Right-Handed Surgeons Insert Upper Thoracic Pedicle Screws in much Comfortable Position? Right-Handedness Problem on the Left Side.

Objective: Thoracic pedicles have special and specific properties. In particular, upper thoracic pedicles are positioned in craniocaudal plane. Therefore, manipulation of thoracic pedicle screws on the left side is difficult for right-handed surgeons.

Necrotizing Fasciitis in Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare, progressive, and life-threatening hematopoietic stem cell disorder characterized by complement-mediated intravascular hemolysis and a prothrombotic state. Patients with PNH might have slightly increased risk of infections due to complement-associated defects subsequent to CD59 deficiency. Here, we report a rare case of a 65-year-old male patient with necrotic ulcers on both legs, where the recognition of pancytopenia and microthrombi led to the diagnosis of PNH based on FLAER (FLuorescent AERolysin) flow cytometric analysis.

The Comparison of Pullout Strengths of Various Pedicle Screw Designs on Synthetic Foams and Ovine Vertebrae.

Aim: One of the most common problems with transpedicular screws is screw pullout. This study was conducted to measure the pullout strengths of newly designed transpedicular screws.

Material And Methods: The design of the three group screws were conical cored standard pedicle screw (Type A), dual threaded pedicle screw (Type B), dual core and dual threaded pedicle screw (Type C), respectively.

Variable sonographic spectrum of parathyroid adenoma with a novel ultrasound finding: dual concentric echo sign.

Aims: To review the detailed gray-scale and Doppler ultrasonography features of histologically proven parathyroid adenomas (PAs) evaluated with high-end ultrasonography devices and to present a novel ultrasonography finding called the dual concentric echo sign in PA with histopathologic correlation which was encountered during detailed analysis.

Material And Methods: Fifty-six PAs with histopathological result were enrolled. The longest dimension, shape, distance to skin surface, internal echo and Doppler US features obtained with high-end US devices were evaluated.

A Comparison of Bilateral Decompression via Unilateral Approach and Classic Laminectomy in Patients with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: A retrospective Clinical Study.

Aim: Bilateral decompression via unilateral approach is one of the minimally invasive methods used for degenerative spinal stenosis. The aim of this retrospective study was to observe the clinical and radiological results of classic laminectomy and bilateral decompression via unilateral approach applied for lumbar stenosis.

William R. Francis and Bassam El-Effendi shared a common ground: they were the first individuals to classify Hangman's Fractures. Interestingly, although they were unaware of each other, they classified and published their findings in the same year, published in the same edition of the same journal (but on different pages).

Kyphosis and review of the literature.

A new technique in the surgical treatment of Hangman's fractures: Neurospinal Academy (NSA) technique.

Context: Treatment of Hangman's fractures is still controversial. Hangman's fractures Type II and IIA are usually treated with surgical procedures.

Aim: This study aims at describing the Neurospinal Academy (NSA) technique as an attempt to achieve an approximation of the fracture line to the axis body, which may be used for Type II and IIA patients with severe displacement and angulation.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment in the experimental spinal cord injury model.

Background Context: Spinal cord trauma is a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Although no known treatment for spinal cord injury exists, a limited number of effective treatment modalities and procedures are available that improve secondary injury. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment has been used to assist in neurologic recovery after cranial injury or ischemic stroke.

Primary spinal epidural Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Primary spinal epidural Hodgkin's lymphoma is very rare. We will discuss the clinical features and treatment of primary spinal epidural Hodgkin's lymphoma. In this paper, a 30-year-old male patient who presented with spinal epidural tumor at the T9-11 level is reported.

Pleomorphic adenoma of lacrimal gland.

We present a case of a 62-year-old male patient with pleomorphic adenoma and painless solid mass in his right eye. Computerized tomography demonstrated a mass with a diameter of 2.5 cm located in the right lacrimal gland.
