Understanding the processes and factors that influence the structure of host-associated microbial assemblages has been a major area of research as these assemblages play a role in host defense against pathogens. Previous work has found that bacterial taxa within bat cutaneous microbial assemblages have antifungal capabilities against the emerging fungal pathogen, Pseudogymnoascus destructans. However, our understanding of natural fluctuations in these cutaneous microbial assemblages over time due to shifts in host habitat is lacking.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been associated with adult mental health, especially anxiety and depression. We aimed to explain these relationships by investigating perceived social support as a mediating factor. In this model, it is proposed that individuals who experience more ACEs will have less perceived social support in adulthood, which in turn will increase reported anxiety and depression symptoms.

Resistance to androgen receptor (AR)-targeted therapies for prostate cancer (PCa) is characteristic of an aggressive subtype called castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and is often associated with tumor relapse. Both relapse and poor prognosis in patients with CRPC are associated with increased abundance of the E3 ubiquitin ligase SKP2. Therefore, we investigated the therapeutic potential of combined inhibition of AR and SKP2 for CRPC.

Introduction: The Longan fruit tree of the Vietnam Mekong Delta is grown in raised beds to improve water drainage during the rainy season and can live as long as 100 years.
Objective: This research explores the extent to which the soil microorganisms as well as soil physical and chemical properties of these raised beds degrade over a period of 60 years under traditional management practices.
Materials And Methods: Raised bed topsoil samples at depths of 0-20 cm were obtained from four different Longan orchards raised bed age groups: group 1) 15-25 years (L1-L5); group 2) 26-37 years (L6-L10); group 3) 38-45 years (L11-L15); and group 4) 46-60 years.

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a critical oncologic emergency characterized by metabolic disturbances resulting from rapid cancer cell lysis. Rasburicase, a recombinant urate oxidase, is the primary treatment for hyperuricemia in TLS but poses a risk for methemoglobinemia in patients with glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. We present the case of a 59-year-old male with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who developed spontaneous TLS.

Rainbow trout (RBT) has gained widespread attention as a biological model across various fields and has been rapidly adopted for aquaculture and recreational purposes on 6 continents. Despite significant efforts to develop genome sequences for RBT, the functional genomic basis of RBT's environmental, phenotypic, and evolutionary variations still requires epigenome reference annotations. This study has produced a comprehensive catalog and epigenome annotation tracks of RBT, detecting gene regulatory elements, including chromatin histone modifications, chromatin accessibility, and DNA methylation.

Purpose: In the US, nearly one-third of skilled home health (HH) patients and nearly one-half of hospice patients live with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). Hispanic older adults are more likely to live with ADRD than white non-Hispanic older adults. Persons with ADRD, compared to their counterparts without ADRD, have a prolonged trajectory of decline and experience multiple care transitions between health care settings, bringing risks for poor outcomes.

Previous work has explored the bi-directional relation between alcohol consumption and gambling behavior within gambling contexts, highlighting the role of salient factors such as mood. The present experiment sought to further explore how mood state and the urge to consume alcohol vary as a function of the experience of winning or losing while gambling. In this experiment, 76 individuals who reported past year gambling and past month alcohol use were randomly assigned to one of four conditions - neutral gambling, winning gambling, losing gambling, or movie watching.

We show that the exact universal density functional of integer electronic charge leads to an extension to fractional charge in an asymptotic sense when it is applied to a system made of asymptotically separated densities. The extended functional is asymptotically local and is said to be i-local. The concept of i-locality is also applicable to nuclear external potentials, and a natural association exists between the localities of a density and a set of nuclei.

Specialized or secondary metabolites are small molecules of biological origin, often showing potent biological activities with applications in agriculture, engineering and medicine. Usually, the biosynthesis of these natural products is governed by sets of co-regulated and physically clustered genes known as biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). To share information about BGCs in a standardized and machine-readable way, the Minimum Information about a Biosynthetic Gene cluster (MIBiG) data standard and repository was initiated in 2015.
