Translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and psychometric validation of the Malay version of the Assessment of Quality of Life-6 Dimensions (Malay-AQoL-6D) instrument among Malaysians living with chronic heart failure.

Background: This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL)-6D into Malay (Malay-AQoL-6D), and assesses the instrument's acceptability, reliability, and validity among Malaysians living with chronic heart failure (HF).

Methods: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation process adhered to international guidelines. The Malay-AQoL-6D underwent content and face validity assessments via expert review, and pretesting among healthy individuals and patients with chronic conditions.

Examining health-related quality of life in ambulatory adult patients with chronic heart failure: insights from Malaysia using EQ-5D-5L.

Purpose: Health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) data for the chronic heart failure (HF) population in Malaysia are lacking. Using EQ-5D-5L, this study intended to describe their HRQoL, identify predictors of worse HRQoL, and derive EQ-5D-5L index scores for use in economic evaluations.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between April and September 2023 to collect EQ-5D-5L, sociodemographic, and clinical data from outpatients with HF across seven public specialist hospitals in Malaysia.

Incidence of fragility hip fracture across the Asia-pacific region: A systematic review.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to update fragility hip fracture incidences in the Asia Pacific, and compare rates between countries/regions.

Method: A systematic search was conducted in four electronic databases. Studies reporting data between 2010 and 2023 on the geographical incidences of hip fractures in individuals aged ≥50 were included.

Budget impact of increasing uptake of denosumab for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in Malaysia.

Unlabelled: This study evaluated the financial impact of increasing denosumab usage for managing postmenopausal osteoporosis over a 5-year period from the Malaysian healthcare provider's perspective. A gradual moderate increase in denosumab uptake would have a minimal budget impact, with potential savings in fracture treatment expenses. Optimizing denosumab usage could be a cost-effective and potentially affordable strategy to alleviate the economic burden of osteoporosis in Malaysia.

Guidelines from an expert panel for the management of diabetic macular edema in the Malaysian population.

Aim: To derive a Malaysia guideline and consensus as part of the Malaysia Retina Group's efforts for diagnosis, treatment, and best practices of diabetic macular edema (DME). The experts' panel suggests that the treatment algorithm to be divided into groups according to involvement the central macula. The purpose of DME therapy is to improve edema and achieve the best visual results with the least amount of treatment load.

The Modified Spare Piriformis and Internus, Repair Externus Approach for Hip Arthroplasty.

We present the case of an 80-year-old Malaysian gentleman who sustained a displaced intracapsular neck of femur (NOF) fracture and underwent a modified SPAIRE (Sparing Piriformis and Internus, Repair Externus) approach for total hip replacement (THR). The standard approach used in our hospital for THR in NOF fractures is the modified Hardinge approach to the hip. We used this modified SPAIRE approach as this patient lives in a 'Mahjong' center and always sits cross-legged on the floor.

Coping strategies and their associated factors among caregivers of patients with schizophrenia in Kuantan, Malaysia.

Background: It is essential for caregivers of schizophrenia patients to have effective coping mechanisms to deal with their own mental health. However, research on the factors that contribute to the coping mechanisms of caregivers is limited. The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of coping strategies and their correlations to socio-demographic features, psychological distress, and social support among the caregivers of patients with schizophrenia.

Risk of serious adverse events after the BNT162b2, CoronaVac, and ChAdOx1 vaccines in Malaysia: A self-controlled case series study.

Background: Rapid deployment of COVID-19 vaccines is challenging for safety surveillance, especially on adverse events of special interest (AESIs) that were not identified during the pre-licensure studies. This study evaluated the risk of hospitalisations for predefined diagnoses among the vaccinated population in Malaysia.

Methods: Hospital admissions for selected diagnoses between 1 February 2021 and 30 September 2021 were linked to the national COVID-19 immunisation register.

A positive urine pregnancy test with haemoperitoneum: misdiagnosed postpartum choriocarcinoma with uterine rupture mimicking ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

Objectives: Choriocarcinoma after a term pregnancy is rare and can be life-threatening, especially when it perforates the uterus, resulting in massive haemoperitoneum. As uterine rupture due to choriocarcinoma is uncommonly encountered in the clinical practice, its diagnosis is often missed or delayed.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a 41-year-old para 4 + 1 who had acute abdomen and hypovolaemic shock secondary to haemoperitoneum at three months postpartum period.

Efficacy of Early Treatment With Favipiravir on Disease Progression Among High-Risk Patients With Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): A Randomized, Open-Label Clinical Trial.

Background: The role of favipiravir in preventing disease progression in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains uncertain. We aimed to determine its effect in preventing disease progression from nonhypoxia to hypoxia among high-risk COVID-19 patients.

Methods: This was an open-label, randomized clinical trial conducted at 14 public hospitals across Malaysia (February-July 2021) among 500 symptomatic, RT-PCR-confirmed COVID-19 patients, aged ≥50 years with ≥1 comorbidity, and hospitalized within first 7 days of illness.

Cancer-Associated Thrombosis: A Clinical Scoping Review of the Risk Assessment Models Across Solid Tumours and Haematological Malignancies.

Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) is a leading cause of death in cancer patients receiving outpatient chemotherapy. The latest guidelines emphasize stratifying the patients in terms of CAT risks periodically. Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder presenting as T-prolymphocytic leukemia: a case report.

Introduction: Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder is a serious disorder which occurs post hematopoietic stem cell transplant or solid organ transplantation. T-prolymphocytic leukemia is a T cell type monomorphic post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder which accounts for only 2% of all mature lymphocytic leukemias in adults over the age of 30.

Ethnic differences in lifetime cumulative incidence of syncope: the Malaysian elders longitudinal research (MELoR) study.

Purpose: To determine the lifetime cumulative incidence of syncope, potential ethnic differences and factors associated with syncope using the Malaysian elders longitudinal research (MELoR) study first wave dataset.

Methods: The MELoR study recruited community-dwelling adults aged 55 years and over, selected through stratified random sampling from three parliamentary constituencies. The baseline data collected during the first wave was obtained through face-to-face interviews in participants' homes using computer-assisted questionnaires.

Nasopharyngeal Mantle Cell Lymphoma: An Extremely Rare Entity.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a poor prognosis and high recurrence rate. It seldom affects the Waldeyer's ring let alone the nasopharynx. Patients usually present at late stages of the disease leading to poor failure-free and overall survival rates.

What information and the extent of information research participants need in informed consent forms: a multi-country survey.

Background: The use of lengthy, detailed, and complex informed consent forms (ICFs) is of paramount concern in biomedical research as it may not truly promote the rights and interests of research participants. The extent of information in ICFs has been the subject of debates for decades; however, no clear guidance is given. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the perspectives of research participants about the type and extent of information they need when they are invited to participate in biomedical research.

High-dose ulinastatin improves postoperative oxygenation in patients undergoing aortic valve surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass: A retrospective study.

Objective To determine whether pre-treatment with high-dose ulinastatin provides enhanced postoperative oxygenation in patients who have undergone aortic valve surgery with moderate hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Methods Patients who underwent aortic valve surgery with moderate hypothermic CPB were retrospectively evaluated. In total, 94 of 146 patients were included.

Trigeminal neuralgia: a retrospective multicentre study of 320 Asian patients.

Objectives: This study was performed to obtain the clinicodemographic data regarding patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) treated at oral-maxillofacial medicine clinics, as there is a paucity of such information in the Asian setting.

Study Design: Retrospective multicenter study involving clinicodemographic information of 320 patients with TN diagnosed between 2001 and 2012 at eight regional oral-maxillofacial medicine clinics and followed up for at least 6 months.
