Objective: To determine the demographics, presentation, management, and outcomes of patients with recurrent angioedema. To compare the findings to patients with ACE inhibitor related angioedema.
Methods: Retrospective case series with chart review of patients who presented to a tertiary-care hospital between January 2010 and December 2017 with two or more episodes of angioedema.

Background: Understanding factors that impair quality of life (QOL) in gastroparesis is important for clinical management.
Aims: (a) Determine QOL in patients with gastroparesis; (b) Determine factors that impair QOL.
Methods: Gastroparetic patientsAQ6 underwent history and questionnaires assessing symptoms (PAGI-SYM and Rome III), QOL (SF-36v2 and PAGI-QOL), depression (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI]), and anxiety (State Trait Anxiety InventoryAQ7).

Malaria elimination in Latin America is becoming an elusive goal. Malaria cases reached a historical ~1 million in 2017 and 2018, with Venezuela contributing 53% and 51% of those cases, respectively. Historically, malaria incidence in southern Venezuela has accounted for most of the country's total number of cases.

Background: Despite plausibility of migraine headaches contributing to impaired sexual function among women, data are inconsistent and point to obesity as a potential confounder. Prospective studies that assess the relative importance of migraine improvements and weight loss in relation to sexual function could help elucidate associations among migraine, obesity and female sexual dysfunction (FSD).
Objective: To evaluate sexual function changes and predictors of improvement after behavioural weight loss (BWL) intervention for migraine or migraine education (ME).

Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE) combines metabolic and non-metabolic parameters to predict the 10-year risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Therefore, we hypothesize that ASCVD risk score is correlated to global cardiac microcalcification, as assessed by F-sodium fluoride-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (NaF-PET/CT). Sixty-one individuals (53.

Background Sexual minority, or lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB), individuals are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease attributable to elevated rates of health risk factors. However, although there is clear evidence that statin use can prevent cardiovscular disease in certain adult populations, no studies have examined how statins are being used among the LGB population. This study aimed to examine the prevalence and predictors of statin use among LGB and non-LGB individuals using Facebook-delivered online surveys.

Psoriatic skin lesions are metabolically active, which makes them candidates for imaging with 18-F fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT). The aim of our study was to correlate FDG-PET findings with Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores, the most widely-used grading system for psoriasis. Thirty-three subjects and a total of 84 FDG-PET/CT scans from a prospective clinical trial [NCT01553058] with >2 months moderate-to-severe psoriasis were included.

However, black carbon emissions from biochar-amended soils can deteriorate air quality and affect human health, as the biochar particles often contain a higher amount of sorbed toxic pollutants than the soil. Yet, the extent and mechanism of inhalable particulate matter (PM) emission from biochar-amended soils at different wind regimes have not been evaluated.

Background Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an important endogenous physiological signaling molecule and exerts protective properties in the cardiovascular system. Cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE), 1 of 3 HS producing enzyme, is predominantly localized in the vascular endothelium. However, the regulation of CSE in vascular endothelium remains incompletely understood.

SARS-CoV-2, which led to the 2020 global pandemic, is responsible for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), a respiratory illness, and presents a tropism for the central nervous system. Like most members of this family, the virus is composed of structural and non-structural proteins (NSPs). The non-structural proteins are critical elements of the replication and transcription complex (RTC), as well as immune system evasion.

Two of the key functions of arteries in the brain are (1) the well-recognized supply of blood via the vascular lumen and (2) the emerging role for the arterial walls as routes for the elimination of interstitial fluid (ISF) and soluble metabolites, such as amyloid beta (Aβ), from the brain and retina. As the brain and retina possess no conventional lymphatic vessels, fluid drainage toward peripheral lymph nodes is mediated via transport along basement membranes in the walls of capillaries and arteries that form the intramural peri-arterial drainage (IPAD) system. IPAD tends to fail as arteries age but the mechanisms underlying the failure are unclear.

It is not certain whether such exposures are harming development, as they occur in underresourced contexts entwined with other stressors, such as malnutrition and enteric infection. This study sought to investigate the association between hair-mercury levels and visual-motor, cognitive, and physical development among children living near ASGM in the Peruvian Amazon.

Background: Little is known about the concordance of atopy with asthma COPD overlap. Among individuals with COPD, a better understanding of the phenotypes characterized by asthma overlap and atopy is needed to better target therapies.
Research Question: What is the overlap between atopy and asthma status among individuals with COPD, and how are categories defined by the presence of atopy and asthma status associated with clinical and radiologic phenotypes and outcomes in the Genetic Epidemiology of COPD Study (COPDGene) and Subpopulation and Intermediate Outcome Measures in COPD Study (SPIROMICS)?
Study Design And Methods: Four hundred three individuals with COPD from SPIROMICS and 696 individuals from COPDGene with data about specific IgEs to 10 common allergens and mixes (simultaneous assessment of combination of allergens in similar category) were included.

E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1) is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors. E2F1 binds to DNA with dimerization partner (DP) proteins through an E2 recognition site. The dissociation of E2F1 from retinoblastoma (Rb) protein recovers its transcriptional activity, which drives the cell cycle from the G1 to S phase.

To assess whether online education may affect screening rates for AD prevention clinical trials, we conducted an initial prospective cohort study (n = 10,450) and subsequent randomized study (n = 351) using an online digital tool: AlzU.org.

This may be because of an increased likelihood for young men, particularly young black men, with overweight/obesity to misperceive their weight status. This study examined racial differences in weight status perception accuracy and associations between this perception and weight loss behaviours among young men.

Transglutaminase cross-linked Gelatin (Col-Tgel) is a tailorable collagen-based hydrogel that is becoming an excellent biomaterial scaffold for cellular delivery in vivo. Here, we tested the hypothesis that Col-Tgel increases retention of intramyocardially-injected stem cells, and thereby reduces post-MI cardiac injury.

Objective: Sympathetic joint effusion (SJE) and sympathetic synovial effusion (SSE) are recognized as causes of noninflammatory effusion with <2000 white blood cell (WBC) WBC/mm in the joint and bursa, respectively. Data on normal range SJE/SSE with <200 WBC/mm are unknown. We aimed to investigate the incidence, disease characteristics, and associated triggers of normal range SJE/SSE and to propose diagnostic criteria.
