Impact of online patient reminders to improve asthma care: A randomized controlled trial.

Importance: Asthma is one of the most burdensome chronic illnesses in the US. Despite widespread dissemination of evidence-based guidelines, more than half of the adults with asthma have uncontrolled symptoms.

Objective: To examine the efficacy of an online tool designed to improve asthma control.

A multidimensional measure of participation for adults with serious mental illnesses.

Purpose: The aims of this study were to (1) construct a multidimensional measure of participation (the Community Participation Domains Measure (CPDM)) based on a conceptual model of participation and (2) test the construct validity of the CPDM in adults with serious mental illnesses (SMI).

Methods: The sample consisted of 235 adults with SMI who completed the Temple University Community Participation Measure (TUCP), Community Participation Indicators (CPIs), Colorado Symptom Index (CSI), along with other scales. A conceptual model, descriptive analysis and expert reviews were employed to select a subset of items to include in the measure.

Human papillomavirus vaccination uptake and completion as a preventive health measure among female adolescents.

Background: National coverage for the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine falls short of the targeted goals for Healthy People 2020 with disparities in completion rates noted in minority adolescent female populations. The purpose of this study was to provide a review of the literature on HPV vaccination uptake and completion rates among female minority adolescents as well as a discussion of the financial and policy dimensions of HPV vaccination with implications that impact uptake and completion rates.

Methods: By reviewing the literature, the authors show that the two human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix, have presented unprecedented opportunities to prevent morbidity and mortality from cervical cancer.

Impact of homecare electronic health record on timeliness of clinical documentation, reimbursement, and patient outcomes.

Background: Homecare is an important and effective way of managing chronic illnesses using skilled nursing care in the home. Unlike hospitals and ambulatory settings, clinicians visit patients at home at different times, independent of each other. Twenty-nine percent of 10,000 homecare agencies in the United States have adopted point-of-care EHRs.

We conducted three evaluation studies in community and hospital settings to examine point-of-care documentation system adoption among interdisciplinary care team clinicians. In the community settings, quantitative methods included documentation time-to-completion and a clinician satisfaction survey. Qualitative methods included observations and follow-up interviews.
