Incomplete Facial Paralysis: The Use of the Ipsilateral Residual Facial Nerve as a Donor Nerve for Facial Reanimation.

Plast Reconstr Surg

July 2018

From the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Microsurgery Unit, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University; and the Division of Plastic Surgery, The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto.

Background: The reconstructive approach for incomplete facial paralysis is not yet determined. In this article, the authors present a new surgical approach for patients with incomplete facial paralysis in which residual, ineffective movement is detected preoperatively in the ipsilateral buccozygomatic territory of the paretic facial nerve.

Methods: Sixteen patients with incomplete facial paralysis were found eligible for the procedure and underwent one-stage facial reanimation performed by the senior author (E.

Objective: Delay in seeking medical care following symptom onset in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is related to increased morbidity and mortality. Actual trends of prehospital delays in patients hospitalized with STEMI have not been well characterized. We evaluated trends in the length of time that had elapsed from symptom onset to hospital presentation among STEMI patients admitted to our hospital.

Purpose: To stratify maternal and neonatal outcomes of trials of labor after previous cesarean delivery (TOLAC) by gestational age.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study of all singleton pregnancies with one previous cesarean delivery in TOLAC at term between 2007 and 2014. We compared outcomes of delivery at an index gestational week, with outcomes of women who remained undelivered at this index gestational week (ongoing pregnancy).

CRP velocity and short-term mortality in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction.

Biomarkers

April 2017

a Department of Cardiology , Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv , Israel.

Context: There is a known association between C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and adverse outcomes in patients presenting with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The optimal time frame to measure CRP for risk stratification is not known.

Objective: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the relation between the change in CRP velocity (CRPv) and 30-d mortality among STEMI patients.

The implications of body-image dissatisfaction among kidney-transplant recipients.

Psychol Health Med

December 2016

c Organ Transplantation Unit, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center-Affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine , Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv , Israel.

The role that body image plays in the psychological adjustment of kidney-transplant recipients is an understudied issue. In the current study, the association between three variables - (a) body-image dissatisfaction, (b) quality of life (QOL), and (c) psychological distress - was investigated. The research participants were 45 kidney-transplant recipients who were under follow-up care at the Transplant Unit of the Tel-Aviv Medical Center (Israel).

Involvement of CXCR4/CXCR7/CXCL12 Interactions in Inflammatory bowel disease.

Theranostics

September 2013

IBD Center, Department of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Directional movement of cells in the human body is orchestrated via chemokines. This migration was initially identified in pathological and immunological processes but quickly extended to homeostatic cell trafficking. One such chemokine is the ubiquitous CXCL12 (initially called SDF1-α) which signals via the chemokine receptors CXCR4 and CXCR7.

Increased serum levels of oxidative stress are associated with hospital readmissions due to acute heart failure.

Cardiology

August 2011

Department of Internal Medicine E, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Objectives: Inflammation and serum oxidative stress (OS) are important components in heart failure (HF) deterioration. In this study we tested the hypothesis that an increase in patients' sera OS levels is associated with acute HF (AHF) readmissions.

Methods: Thirty consecutive patients (mean age 71 ± 10 years) admitted with AHF were included in the study.

Intrasplenic preconditioning: a model for the study of xenostimuli accommodation.

J Surg Res

June 2011

Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: Discordant xenotransplantation, the grafting of organs from one phylogenic species to another, results in hyper-acute rejection (HAR). HAR is associated with the deposition of recipient preformed xenoreactive natural antibodies and complement on the endothelium of the donor organ, leading to activation and apoptosis of the endothelium, an event associated with xenograft rejection. Endothelial resistance to HAR, termed "accommodation," an active protection of graft endothelium, may be achieved by previous stimulation of endothelial cells by discordant xenoantibodies.

Automated system to detect low-grade underlying inflammatory profile: Gaucher disease as a model.

Blood Cells Mol Dis

December 2005

Department of Medicine D, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Patients with Gaucher disease, perhaps due to chronic storage of glycolipids, apparently harbor a subclinical or underlying inflammation. Quantification of a baseline inflammatory profile in patients with Gaucher disease is more impressive when compared with that of matched healthy controls in a systematic, automated fashion. A mean of 16 healthy controls was generated for each of 50 patients with Gaucher disease by applying variables relating to potential for inflammatory features, for example, atherothrombotic risk factors.

[Isolated limb perfusion with tumor necrosis factor for malignancies of the limbs].

Harefuah

October 1996

Dept. of Surgery B, Tel Aviv-Sourasky Medical Center (Affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University).

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) induces rapid necrosis in a variety of experimental neoplasms. However, its clinical application is limited by life-threatening systemic toxicity. Isolated limb perfusion (ILP) enables administration of large doses of TNF and cytotoxic drugs directly to the affected limb, avoiding systemic toxicity.
