Sleep Disturbances in Adolescents With Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension.

Pediatr Neurol

May 2023

Pediatric Neurology Institute, Dana-Dwek Children's Hospital, Tel Aviv Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel; Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: We aimed to assess the presence of sleep disturbances in adolescents with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) and to determine whether demographic, anthropometric, and clinical factors are associated with disrupted sleep.

Methods: Sleep disturbances and patterns were evaluated in a cohort of adolescents (aged 12 to 18 years) with ongoing IIH and compared with a healthy age- and sex-matched control group. All participants responded to three self-rating questionnaires: the School Sleep Habits Survey (SSHS), the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ), and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale.

Background: this pilot study aimed at determining whether the application of a novel new method of generating pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF), the Fracture Healing Patch (FHP), accelerates the healing of acute distal radius fractures (DRF) when compared to a sham treatment.

Methods: 41 patients with DRFs treated with cast immobilization were included. Patients were allocated to a PEMF group ( = 20) or a control (sham) group ( = 21).

Methods: Forty (9 females) patients with various shoulder disorders and a limited flexion ROM performed 4 exercises for regaining shoulder flexion ROM in a randomized order.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the impact of treating paravalvular regurgitation (PVR) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and its association with morbidity and mortality.
  • A total of 201 patients were treated for moderate PVR using various interventions, including redo-TAVI, plug closure, and balloon valvuloplasty, with outcomes measured at 30 days and 1 year.
  • Findings indicate that successful reduction of aortic regurgitation (AR) to mild levels significantly improved 1-year mortality rates, suggesting that treatment decisions and patient selection for PVR interventions need further research.

Newborns with a Congenital Heart Defect and Diastolic Steal Have an Altered Cerebral Arterial Doppler Profile.

J Pediatr

June 2023

Department of Pediatrics, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, Montreal Children's Hospital, McGill University Health Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare vascular flow trends in the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) of neonates with congenital heart defects (CHD), focusing on those with and without diastolic systemic steal during their first week of life.
  • Researchers used Doppler ultrasound and echocardiography to analyze 38 neonates daily from day 1 to 7, categorizing them based on the presence of retrograde flow in the aorta.
  • Results showed that while peak systolic and mean velocities increased over time regardless of retrograde status, those with retrograde flow experienced a significant decrease in ACA-end-diastolic velocity and increases in resistive and pulsatility indexes, indicating cerebrovascular steal in the first week of life.

Development of autoantibodies following BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccination and their association with disease flares in adult patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRD) and the general population: results of 1-year prospective follow-up study. We conducted a prospective study aimed at investigating the incidence of appearance of autoantibodies (antinuclear, antiphospholipid, and rheumatoid factor) in the sera of 463 adult patients with AIIRD compared to 55 controls from the general population prior to, and following the second and third vaccine doses, and at 1-year of follow-up. Pre- and post-vaccination disease activity indices and the association of autoantibodies with rheumatic disease flares and new onset AIIRD were examined.

Purpose: Noonan syndrome (NS) is a rare neurodevelopmental syndrome characterized by dysmorphic features, congenital heart defects, neurodevelopmental delay, and bleeding diathesis. Though rare, several neurosurgical manifestations have been associated with NS, such as Chiari malformation (CM-I), syringomyelia, brain tumors, moyamoya, and craniosynostosis. We describe our experience in treating children with NS and various neurosurgical conditions, and review the current literature on neurosurgical aspects of NS.

: Anticoagulation use in the elderly is common for patients undergoing femoral neck hip surgery. However, its use presents a challenge to balance it with associated comorbidities and benefits for the patients. As such, we attempted to compare the risk factors, perioperative outcomes, and postoperative outcomes of patients who used warfarin preoperatively and patients who used therapeutic enoxaparin.
