This study aimed to determine the prevalence and serovar distribution of salmonellae in liver, heart, and spleen (LHS) and gizzard (G) of slaughtered broilers. For this, a total of 60 sample units, comprised of 30 LHS and 30 G collected from 3 slaughterhouses, were analysed by reference methods for detection and serotyping as revised ISO 6579-1:2017 and ISO 6579-3:2014, respectively. Also, Salmonella-specific real-time PCR (Salm-PCR) was used for species confirmation, while Salmonella Enteritidis (S.

In this study, modified bovine gelatin was produced using the alkaline technique with four different oxidized agro-industrial food waste (pomegranate peel (PP), grape pomace and seed (GP), black tea (BT), and green tea (GT)) phenolic extracts (AFWEs) at three different concentrations (1, 3, and 5% based on dry gelatin). The effect of waste type and concentration on the textural, rheological, emulsifying, foaming, swelling, and color properties of gelatin, as well as its total phenolic content and antioxidant activity, was investigated. Significant improvement in gel strength, thermal stability, and gelation rate of gelatin was achieved by modification with oxidized agro-industrial waste extracts.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to identify biomarkers that predict the progression of COVID-19 in pregnant women, particularly focusing on blood parameters and inflammatory markers.
  • The research involved a case-control group of pregnant women with COVID-19 and a matching group without the virus, analyzing factors like platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and C-reactive protein levels.
  • Findings indicated that the patient group had significantly higher platelet-to-neutrophil ratios, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratios, and C-reactive protein levels compared to the control group, suggesting these could be important indicators of disease severity.

Department of Aquatic Animal Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bursa Uludag University, Bursa, 16059, Turkey.

Two yellow-coloured strains, F-29 and F-340, were isolated from fish farms in Antalya and Mugla in 2015 and 2017 during surveillance studies. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that both strains belong to the genus . A polyphasic approach involving a comprehensive genome analysis was employed to ascertain the taxonomic provenance of the strains.

Reusable flexible ureteroscopes may lose their mechanical functionality through overuse, which is known as "aging of the flexible ureteroscope." Although mechanical deterioration has been shown in several studies, the data about the effect of this situation on the efficacy and safety of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) are missing. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of the aging of flexible ureteroscopes on the efficacy and safety of RIRS.

This study aimed to compare the physiological performance and physical fitness based on the academic achievement levels of secondary school students and to explore the effect of gender on the relationship between physiological performance, physical fitness, and academic achievement. In this cross-sectional study, 304 children aged 13-14 years were recruited. To assess physical fitness, students performed a 20 m sprint test, a pro-agility test, a one-mile endurance run/walk test, and a countermovement jump test.

  • Recent studies have explored the link between human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) in the development of pityriasis rosea (PR), yielding inconsistent findings due to varying sample types and techniques used.
  • In this study, researchers tested tissue and plasma samples from 25 PR patients for HHV-6 and HHV-7 using advanced molecular and serological methods, finding a significant prevalence of HHV-6 and HHV-7 in the samples.
  • The results suggest that both HHV-6 and HHV-7 may play a role in PR, recommending the simultaneous collection of diverse biological samples and the use of quantitative real-time PCR for clearer

microRNAs (miRNAs) play a significant role in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease. In this study, we evaluated the neuroprotective effect of thymoquinone on the expression profiles of miRNA and cognitive functions in the 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced Parkinson's model. Male adult Wistar albino rats (200-230 g, n  = 36) were randomly assigned to six groups: Sham, thymoquinone (10 mg/kg, p.

How many blood pressure measurements should we take in the office?

J Clin Hypertens (Greenwich)

June 2024

Department of Nephrology, School of Medicine, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Türkiye.

No consensus has emerged among different guidelines concerning how many blood pressure (BP) measurements should be performed at office visits in the diagnosis of hypertension. The purpose of this study was to examine the compatibility of various multiple average office BP measurements and 24-h BP monitoring (ABPM) in patients followed up in the posthoc analysis of the Cappadocia hypertension cohort. A total 1158 office BP measurements by 207 patients were examined.

The detrimental role of institutionalization in children's development has prompted the introduction of alternative care types designed to offer more personalized care. The current study aimed to test whether children in alternative care types (care villages, care homes, and foster care) performed better on vocabulary than those in institutions. The role of temperament, specifically perceptual sensitivity and frustration, and the interaction between temperament and care types on vocabulary performance were also explored.

  • Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) happens when a baby doesn’t grow as much as it should inside the mom, which can affect their size and development.
  • The study looked at babies with a condition called congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) to see how IUGR impacts their lung development, using data from patients diagnosed between 2007 and 2016.
  • Results showed that IUGR babies with smaller lung measurements had better survival rates and needed less medical support after birth compared to non-IUGR babies, suggesting that ultrasound measurements might not be accurate for these babies.

Background: Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) poses a significant challenge for physicians, necessitating the management of cell damage and the preservation of organ functions. Various surgical procedures, such as vascular surgery on extremities, temporary cross-clamping of the abdominal aorta in aortic surgery, and the use of a tourniquet in extremity surgeries, may induce lower limb IRI. The susceptibility to IRI is heightened in individuals with diabetes.
