Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the most meaningful diagnostic indicator for distinguishing blanchable erythema (BE) and stage 1 pressure injury (early PI) in an in vivo (rat) model.
Design: A prospective case-control design was used to complete a horizontal and vertical comparison of detection indicators during the process of fading of BE or the deterioration of early PI into ulcer in rat models.
Materials And Setting: The sample comprised 5 hairless rats with 20 injuries, of which 10 were BE and the other 10 were early PI.

Background: Although recent studies have investigated the effects of flywheel (FW) training on muscle function, the effects of transient FW exercise on jump performance in athletes are unknown. This study examined the effects of single and repeated bouts of FW squat exercises on jump performance and muscle damage in male collegiate basketball players.
Methods: The participants were 10 healthy college-age men (nonathletes) and 11 male basketball players (athletes).

Aspiration pneumonia accounts for a significantly higher proportion of pneumonia cases in Japan than in Western countries. We conducted a scoping review of the criteria for diagnosing aspiration pneumonia in the literature on aspiration pneumonia reported from Japan, where the incidence of aspiration pneumonia is higher than in Europe and the United States. We searched MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library as literature databases.

Background: The effect of trunk stability and dynamic balance warm-up exercises on physical functional improvement remains unelucidated. This study examined whether exercises could prevent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and improve trunk muscle activation and dynamic balance in gymnasts.
Methods: This comparison study, involving gymnastics practice sessions, included 31 university gymnasts and was conducted in two periods: 1 year of observation followed by 2 years of intervention.

Background: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is an effective methods to improve maximal oxygen uptake. However, there is no definitive conclusion about the specific effectiveness of home-based HIIT. This review investigated the effects of home-based HIIT on cardiorespiratory fitness in a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Aim: Circulated histones play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of infectious diseases and severe trauma, and it is one of the potential molecular targets for therapeutics. Recently, we reported that histone is one of the causative agents for urinary L-FABP increase. However, the mechanism is still unclear, especially in severe cases.

Early pressure injury (PI) progression is associated with multi-circulatory disorders and they interplay with each other, resulting in a lack of a satisfactory diagnostic method. We generated early PI and blanchable erythema hairless rat models. Transparent disc method and capillary refilling time test (CRTT) results were recorded with ultraviolet camera to capture the dynamics changes, and the blanching index and refilling index were set for comprehensive analysis.

Gorham-Stout disease (GSD), also called vanishing bone disease, is a rare osteolytic disease, frequently associated with lymphangiomatous tissue proliferation. The causative genetic background has not been noted except for a case with a somatic mutation in . However, in the present study, we encountered a case of GSD from a consanguineous family member.

Introduction: Cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing positive symptoms, improving depression, enhancing coping skills and increasing awareness of illness. However, compared with cognitive behavioural therapy for depression and anxiety, the spread of CBTp in clinical practice is minimal. The present study designed a randomised controlled trial (RCT) research protocol to evaluate whether real-time remote video-conference CBTp (vCBTp) could facilitate access to psychosocial interventions and effectively improve symptoms compared with usual care (UC) for patients with schizophrenia.

Previous studies suggest the importance of stable circadian environments for fetuses to achieve sound physiology and intrauterine development. This idea is also supported by epidemiological and animal studies, in which pregnant females exposed to repeated shifting of light-dark cycles had increased rates of reproductive abnormalities and adverse pregnancy outcomes. In response to such findings, artificial circadian environments with light-dark (LD) cycles have been introduced to NICUs to promote better physical development of preterm infants.

Jadomycins, which are benzo[b]phenanthridine-type alkaloids isolated from Streptomyces venezuelae ISP5230, exhibit cytotoxic activity against multidrug-resistant breast cancer cells. We have previously achieved the total synthesis of jadomycins using the direct arylation of juglone as a key step. In this study, we achieved the total synthesis of jadomycin T and jadomycin aglycons using L-threonine and 1-amino-2-propanol as nitrogen sources.

We evaluated the pharmaceutical properties of levofloxacin (LV) in the form of an orally disintegrating tablet (LV) to find a new usefulness of low frequency (LF) Raman spectroscopy. LV contained dispersed granules with diameters in the order of several hundred micrometers, which were composed of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), as confirmed by infrared (IR) microspectroscopy. On the contrary, the API and inactive pharmaceutical ingredients (non-APIs) were homogeneously distributed in LV tablet (LV) formulations.

In many situations in everyday life, sunlight levels need to be reduced. Optical filters with asymmetric transmittance dependent on the incident angle would be useful for sunglasses and vehicle or architectural windows, among others. Herein, we realized the production of optical filters, called "louver filters", comprising HAN-type LC film produced using liquid crystalline ink with dichroic dyes.

Objectives: Protein Z (PZ) is a γ-carboxyglutamic acid protein present in plasma that is involved in blood coagulation. Detailed analysis of urinary stones from patients with urolithiasis has revealed that PZ is often found in urinary stones composed of calcium oxalate monohydrate. In this study, we compared blood and urinary PZ concentrations between healthy individuals and patients with urolithiasis.
