Effectiveness of direct acting antiviral agents for hepatitis C virus related recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma patients who had multiple courses of recurrence.

Eradication of hepatitis C virus (HCV) using direct acting antiviral agents (DAAs) has been reported to alter liver function and reduce the recurrence rate after curative treatment in naïve hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. However, it is not well known whether administration of DAAs had favourable effect on HCC patients with multiple courses of recurrence. We retrospectively extracted 146 HCV-related HCC (C-HCC) patients who received curative treatment using radiofrequency ablation (RFA) followed by eradication treatment with DAA between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2017.

Guidelines for the management of dermatomycosis (2019).

The "Guidelines for the management of dermatomycosis" of the Japanese Dermatological Association were first published in Japanese in 2009 and the Guidelines Committee of the Japanese Dermatological Association revised it in 2019. The first guidelines was prepared according to the opinions of the Guidelines Committee members and it was of educational value. The revised version is composed of introductory descriptions of the disease concepts, diagnosis, medical mycology and recent advances in treatment, along with clinical questions (CQ), which is intended to help in general practice for dermatologists.

Background And Objective: Experience of the use of lenvatinib (LEN) in the clinical setting remains limited. We conducted this study to elucidate the factors associated with progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with advanced HCC treated with LEN.

Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study, we analyzed data on patient characteristics, treatment outcomes, and adverse events (AEs) for 77 patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Objective: We assessed differences in postural change between PD patients and unimpaired elderly and elucidated factors related to abnormal posture in PD patients.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection to relieve a flexure of the gastric conduit after esophagectomy.

 A 70-year-old-man underwent an esophagectomy and posterior mediastinal reconstruction for esophageal cancer that was curatively resected. Although the patient was allowed to eat after surgery, he repeatedly vomited after drinking water or eating meals and required continuous hospitalization. An upper gastrointestinal series and endoscopic examination revealed an obstruction due to the flexure of the gastric conduit, which was repeatedly treated with endoscopic balloon dilation.

Guillain-Barré syndrome in a patient with renal cell carcinoma following the first course of pazopanib therapy.

Pazopanib, one of the antiangiogenic drugs, has recently become a first-line treatment for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The most common adverse effects of pazopanib include diarrhea, fatigue, and nausea, but neuropathic complication has not been documented. Here, we report the first case of a patient with metastatic renal cell carcinoma who developed acute neuropathy mimicking Guillain-Barré syndrome following the first course of pazopanib therapy.

Severe Sepsis After Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Risk Factors and Outcomes.

Background: The post-operative mortality and morbidity rates associated with living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT) are still relatively high. Several papers have reported the risk factors associated with post-operative infectious complications, but few have analyzed the risk factors with respect to the severity of sepsis. The aim of this study was to clarify the risk factors that affect severe sepsis after LDLT.

Safety and short-term outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection for early gastric cancer in elderly patients.

Background And Study Aims: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has become widely accepted as a minimally invasive treatment for early gastric cancer (EGC), and opportunities to use ESD to treat EGC in elderly patients are increasing. The objective of this study was to elucidate the safety and efficacy of ESD in elderly patients.

Patients And Methods: Between April 2006 and March 2013, a total of 892 patients with EGC were prospectively recruited to undergo ESD according to definite inclusion criteria.

A 48-year old male patient developed numbness in the lower half of the body 5 months after the curative operation of left renal cell carcinoma. Neurological examinations revealed the sensory disturbance below the T10 dermatome. A sagittal T2WI of the spinal MRI demonstrated a longitudinally extensive spinal cord lesion (LESCL) ranging from the C7 to L1 vertebral level.

Small-Incision Laparoscopy-Assisted Surgery Under Abdominal Cavity Irrigation in a Porcine Model.

Background: Laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgeries are performed under carbon dioxide insufflation. Switching from gas to an isotonic irrigant introduces several benefits and avoids some adverse effects of gas insufflation. We developed an irrigating device and apparatus designed for single-incision laparoscopic surgery and tested its advantages and drawbacks during surgery in a porcine model.

Adenosine is an effective treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in Japanese men and women. Adenosine exerts its effects by significantly increasing the proportion of thick hair. In this study, we assessed the clinical outcome of adenosine treatment for 6 months in 38 Caucasian men.

Risks and prevention of severe RS virus infection among children with immunodeficiency and Down's syndrome.

By the age of two years, almost all infants are infected with the Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). One of the main causes of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis and pneumonia at this age is RSV infection. In addition to well-known risks for severe RSV disease, such as prematurity, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and congenital heart disease, immunodeficiencies, chromosomal abnormalities such as Down's syndrome or neuromuscular diseases have also been identified as risks.

Preoperative hepatic CT perfusion as an early predictor for the recurrence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: initial clinical results.
