Background: The school-age is a crucial period of physical and cognitive growth, which requires an assessment of dietary intake and its influence on body weight and height. This study aims to determine the association between the quality and quantity of carbohydrate intake with selected anthropometric indices in primary school girls in Kerman City, Iran.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 330 primary school girls ages 6-12 years in Kerman.

Introduction: Trigeminal neuralgia (TGN) poses a therapeutic challenge, particularly within the context of multiple sclerosis (MS). This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive meta-analysis and systematic review of four less-invasive treatment modalities for TGN in MS patients, namely, gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS), glycerol rhizotomy (GR), balloon compression (BC), and radiofrequency ablation (RFA).
Methods: Single-armed meta-analyses were employed to assess the overall efficacy of each treatment, while double-armed analyses compared the efficacy between different treatment options in double-armed studies.

Objective: Sleep disturbances commonly reported among epilepsy patients have a reciprocal relationship with the condition; While epilepsy and anti-seizure medications (ASMs) can disrupt sleep structure, disturbed sleep can also exacerbate the frequency of seizures. This study explored subjective sleep disturbances and compared sleep profiles in patients who underwent ASM monotherapy and polytherapy.
Methods: We enrolled 176 epilepsy patients who completed a structured questionnaire containing demographic and clinical information and the Persian versions of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to evaluate sleep quality, insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), and depressive symptoms, respectively.

Purpose: Large scintillation crystals-based gamma cameras play a crucial role in nuclear medicine imaging. In this study, a large field-of-view (FOV) gamma detector consisting of 48 square PMTs developed using a new readout electronics, reducing 48 (6 × 8) analog signals to 14 (6 + 8) analog sums of each row and column, with reduced complexity and cost while preserving image quality.
Methods: All 14 analog signals were converted to digital signals using AD9257 high-speed analog to digital (ADC) converters driven by the SPARTAN-6 family of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) in order to calculate the signal integrals.

Glycogen storage diseases (GSDs) are a group of rare inherited metabolic disorders characterized by clinical, locus, and allele heterogeneity. This study aims to investigate the phenotype and genotype spectrum of GSDs in a cohort of 14 families from Iran using whole-exome sequencing (WES) and variant analysis. WES was performed on 14 patients clinically suspected of GSDs.

Purpose: L-carnitine supplementation has been recommended to improve cardiometabolic health markers in diabetic patients. Our purpose was to assess the dose-dependent effects of l-carnitine supplementation on cardiometabolic risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched until May 2022 for randomized controlled trials that examined the impact of l-carnitine supplementation on cardiometabolic risk factors in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Background: Tumors in the fourth ventricle can be critical due to the small size of the fourth ventricle, which causes symptoms to be detected even in the presence of lesser mass effects. A proper surgical approach to the fourth ventricle poses challenges due to its deep location and proximity to vital compartments within the brainstem. The two commonly used approaches to these tumors are the transvermian and telovelar approaches.

Background: Given the limited specificity of D-dimer, there is a perceived need to discover a more precise marker for diagnosing individuals who are suspected of having pulmonary embolism (PE). In this study, by evaluating the increase in the serum level of Apelin-13 and D-dimer, we found valuable findings about Apelin-13, which can be suggested as an auxiliary and non-invasive diagnostic biomarker in individuals with suspected PE, based on the obtained results.
Methods: In this case-control study, 52 Iranian individuals were included, all of whom were suspected to have PE.

One of the goals of the HORIZON 2020 project PoCOsteo was to develop a medical device, which would measure and/or quantify proteomic as well as genomic factors as present in whole blood samples collected through finger prick. After validating the tool in the clinical setting, the next step would be its clinical validation based on the existing guidelines. This article presents the protocol of a validation study to be carried out independently at two different centers (Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology at the Medical University of Graz as a clinic-based cohort, and the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences as a population-based cohort).

Background: Among neurological diseases, multiple sclerosis (MS) affects mostly young adults and can cause long-term disability. While most medications with approval from regulatory agencies are very effective in treating MS disease, they are unable to repair the tissue damage found in the central nervous system (CNS). Consequently, Cell-based therapy particularly using mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs), holds promise for neuroprotection and tissue repair in MS treatment.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is an increasingly common psychiatric illness associated with a high risk of insufficient physical activity, which in turn is associated with negative mental and physical health outcomes. Theory-based, individually tailored, in-person and remote physical activity counseling has the potential to increase physical activity levels in various populations. Given this, the present study investigated the effect of such a physical activity intervention on the physical activity behavior of in-patients with MDD.

Background And Aims: The occurrence of thiamine metabolism dysfunction syndrome (THMD), a rare autosomal recessive condition, may be linked to various mutations found in the and genes. The disease chiefly manifests through ataxia, muscle hypotonia, abrupt or subacute onset encephalopathy, and a decline in developmental milestones achieved during the early stages of infancy. We present findings from an investigation that involved two individuals from Iran, both of whom experienced seizures along with ataxia and hypotonia.
