Background: Anticoagulants increase the risk of cardiac tamponade in patients with pericardial effusion (PE). Therefore, inappropriate administration of them in the presence of PE can lead to a catastrophic outcome. This study presents a patient with a provisional misdiagnosis of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Background: Acute heart failure is a common clinical syndrome leading to hospital admission, with few evidence-based therapies for managing congestion. This trial aims to assess the efficacy of acetazolamide combined with loop diuretics in achieving decongestion among patients who fail to respond to oral diuretics and progress to acute decompensated heart failure in the absence of injectable furosemide.
Methods: This single-center, double-blind randomized controlled trial with a 1:1 allocation ratio aims to evaluate 130 patients admitted to the infusion ward.

Vasovagal syncope (VVS), characterized by transient loss of consciousness, is among the most prevalent reasons for emergency visits worldwide. Although benign in nature, VVS can be accompanied by traumatic injury, leading to morbidity and decreased quality of life, especially in those with VVS recurrence. The management includes non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic therapies (if resistant), patient education and reassurance, salt and fluid intake increase, and physical counter-pressure maneuvers.

Background: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is crucial to evaluating coronary artery stenosis in patients diagnosed with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). By assessing the severity of stenosis, FFR assists in determining whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is necessary.
Methods: Conducted at Tehran Heart Center from 2013 through 2017, this cohort study involved 52,248 CCS patients who underwent coronary angiography.

Aims: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the North Africa and Middle East (NAME) region. Due to the paucity of research on this issue, we aimed to estimate the burden of CVD and its attributable risk factors in the NAME region.
Methods And Results: Data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) were retrieved to estimate the incidence, prevalence, deaths, years of life lost, years lived with disability, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for CVD across 21 countries and both sexes.

Background: Biventricular dysfunction is frequent in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot, necessitating routine imaging to monitor for worsening conditions and determine whether procedures like pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) are needed. This study aimed to highlight the parameters of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and their association with adverse outcomes in the midterm follow-up of these patients.
Methods: This longitudinal study recruited all patients with a history of tetralogy of Fallot total correction (TFTC) who had two CMR images at a minimum three-month interval at Rajaie Center from 2007 through 2017.

Background: Although juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is one of the most common pediatric rheumatologic diseases, the exact etiology of JIA remains unclear. Genetic factors, including variations in the NLRP3 gene, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association between NLRP3 polymorphisms and JIA.

Objectives: Recent studies have suggested a potential link between opium consumption and microvascular dysfunction in coronary arteries, which may contribute to the development of coronary slow-flow syndrome. This study aims to investigate the relationship between opium use and coronary slow-flow syndrome.
Design And Setting: This retrospective study analysed medical records of patients who underwent coronary angiography at the Tehran Heart Center from 2006 to 2020.

Background: Right ventricular (RV) stroke volume (SV) can be calculated via Doppler echocardiography at multiple sites in the right chambers. However, the agreement between the calculated SVs at these sites is unknown. We aimed to assess the repeatability, reliability, and precision of the distal right ventricular outflow tract diameter (RVOTD), the mid-pulmonary artery diameter (MPAD), the right ventricular outflow tract velocity time integral (VTI), and the mid-pulmonary artery velocity time integral (MPAVTI).

Background: Abdominal obesity and low muscle strength, known separately as risk factors for mortality, might have a synergistic effect when they co-occur. Dynapenic abdominal obesity (DAO) is a condition defined by the presence of both. However, DAO's independent and combined impact on mortality remains under investigation.

Background: Metabolic syndrome is a prevalent and common health problem and numerous studies have revealed the role of diet and lifestyle change in prevention of metabolic syndrome. However, the novel dietary index, cardioprotective index (CPI) and its association with metabolic syndrome is not investigated yet. In the current study, we evaluated the association between metabolic syndrome and its components, CPI, Nesfatin-1 and Omentin-1in a cross-sectional study.

Heart transplantation is a vital procedure for patients with end-stage heart failure, but it faces significant challenges, including graft dysfunction, rejection, and cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV), which can compromise long-term graft success. Research suggests that statin therapy may offer significant benefits to heart transplant recipients, such as improved long-term survival and reduced rates of graft rejection and mortality. The aim of this review is to thoroughly examine the recent literature on this topic since 2005.

Background: Integration of artificial intelligence enhances precision, yielding dependable evaluations of left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction despite image quality variations. Commercial software like HeartModel provides fully automated 3DE quantification, simplifying the measurement of left chamber volumes and ejection fraction. In this manuscript, we present a cross-sectional study to assess and compare the diagnostic accuracy of automated 3D echocardiography (HeartModel) to the standard Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.

The prevalence of hypercalciuria in children is 3%-10% globally and up to 35% in the United States. Hypercalciuria in children has many presentations; it causes different metabolic disorders and can negatively affect a child's growth. It also increases the risk of low bone mineral density and urinary tract infections.
