Breast cancer stem cells (BCSC) have been identified in breast carcinoma as CD44(+)/CD24(-/low) cells, which display tumorigenic activity and have the ability to self-renew, differentiate and metastasize. Previous studies showed that extracellular HSP90 (eHSP90) participates in the invasion and metastatic processes of various cancers including breast cancer. Here, we show for the first time that eHSP90 is over-expressed in mammosphere cultures that are derived from the MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-453 and MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines.

Objective: The aim of this study is the construction and performance evaluation of 'λ-eye', a γ imaging probe, optimized in terms of sensitivity for sentinel lymph node mapping. The optimization of the probe is based on theoretical models and simulation results that were presented in a previous study of our group. In this work, the construction of the probe, the experimental confirmation of the simulation results, and the evaluation of its performance with phantoms and lymph node imaging in small animals are presented.

The application of radionuclide-labeled biomolecules such as monoclonal antibodies or antibody fragments for imaging purposes is called immunoscintigraphy. More specifically, when the nuclides used are positron emitters, such as zirconium-89, the technique is referred to as immuno-PET. Currently, there is an urgent need for radionuclides with a half-life which correlates well with the biological kinetics of the biomolecules under question and which can be attached to the proteins by robust labeling chemistry.

A multi-wavelength prism coupling refractometer is utilized to measure the angular reflectance of freshly excised human intestinal tissue specimens. Based on reflectance data, the real and imaginary part of the refractive index is calculated via Fresnel analysis for three visible (blue, green, red) and two near-infrared (963 nm and 1551 nm) wavelengths. Averaged values of the complex refractive index and corresponding Cauchy dispersion fits are given for the mucosa, submucosa and serosa layers of the colorectal wall at the normal state.

Multimodal imaging has led to a more detailed exploration of different physiologic processes with integrated PET/MR imaging being the most recent entry. Although the clinical need is still questioned, it is well recognized that it represents one of the most active and promising fields of medical imaging research in terms of software and hardware. The hardware developments have moved from small detector components to high-performance PET inserts and new concepts in full systems.

Purpose: During the last three decades, the number of devices that emit non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation (EMR) at the wireless communication spectrum has rapidly increased and possible effects on living organisms have become a major concern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of radiofrequency EMR emitted by a widely used wireless communication device, namely the Digital Enhanced Communication Telephony (DECT) base, on the immune responses of the Aegean wall lizard (Podarcis erhardii).
Materials And Methods: Adult male lizards were exposed 24 h/day for 8 weeks to 1880-1900 MHz DECT base radiation at average electric field intensity of 3.
