Stress can detrimentally affect physical and mental health, especially during childhood. During this critical period, parental bonds can foster resilience or amplify stress. This study explored whether mothers' everyday stress can act as a source of childhood stress, affecting children's executive functioning.

The use and misuse of opioids are a growing global problem. Although the effects of these drugs on the human endocrine system have been studied for decades, attention on their related clinical consequences, particularly on the hypothalamic-pituitary system and bone health, has intensified over recent years. This Statement appraises research data related to the impact of opioids on the gonadal and adrenal function.

Background: To better manage patients with a wide range of mental health problems, general practitioners would benefit from diagnostically accurate and time-efficient screening tools that comprehensively assess mental illness. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review was to identify screening tools that either take a multiple-mental disorder or a transdiagnostic approach. As primary and secondary outcomes, diagnostic accuracy and time efficiency were investigated.

Objectives: To investigate tooth-specific, clinical tooth-, and patient-related factors associated with tooth loss (TL) in patients with mild to severe periodontitis treated in a periodontal practice-based research network (Perio-PBRN) over at least 5 years.
Materials And Methods: The Perio-PBRN consists of five German periodontal practices where clinical data were collected regarding patient age, tooth type, bleeding on probing (BOP), pocket probing depth (PPD), furcation involvement (FI), number of attended appointments, and other variables of interest. The data were evaluated regarding factors influencing TL.

Food proteins may be modified during processing and storage through reactions with reducing sugars (Maillard reaction, glycation) or by reactive oxygen species (protein oxidation). Little is known about particular reactions at the interface of glycation and oxidation. In the present study, the glycated amino acid pyrraline (6-(2-formyl-5-hydroxymethyl-1-pyrrolyl)-l-norleucine) and the proteinogenic amino acids tyrosine and tryptophan were subjected to different types of oxidation.

Background: Real-world data on gene addition therapy (GAT) with onasemnogene abeparvovec (OA), including all age groups and with or without symptoms of the disease before treatment are needed to provide families with evidence-based advice and realistic therapeutic goals. Aim of this study is therefore a population-based analysis of all patients with SMA treated with OA across Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH).
Methods: This observational study included individuals with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) treated with OA in 29 specialized neuromuscular centers in the D-A-CH-region.

This paper concerns structure learning or discovery of discrete generative models. It focuses on Bayesian model selection and the assimilation of training data or content, with a special emphasis on the order in which data are ingested. A key move-in the ensuing schemes-is to place priors on the selection of models, based upon expected free energy.

Everyday life requires an adaptive balance between distraction-resistant maintenance of information and the flexibility to update this information when needed. These opposing mechanisms are proposed to be balanced through a working memory gating mechanism. Prior research indicates that obesity may elevate the risk of working memory deficits, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their healthcare providers have faced unique challenges related to the interaction between SARS-CoV-2, underlying neurological disease and the use of disease-modifying treatments (DMTs). Key concerns arose, primarily related to the possibility that SARS-CoV-2 infection could trigger the initial demyelinating event or exacerbate disease activity. Another major concern was the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines, especially for patients undergoing specific treatments that could weaken their antibody responses.

Lead halide perovskites have emerged as platforms for exciton-polaritonic studies at room temperature, thanks to their excellent photoluminescence efficiency and synthetic versatility. In this work, we find proof of strong exciton-photon coupling in cavities formed by the layered crystals themselves, a phenomenon known as the self-hybridization effect. We use multilayers of high-quality Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites in their 2D crystalline form, benefiting from their quantum-well excitonic resonances and the strong Fabry-Pérot cavity modes resulting from the total internal reflection at their smooth surfaces.

Plant responses to environmental heterogeneity depend on life-history traits, which could relate to phenotypical and genetic characteristics. To elucidate this relationship, we examined the variation in population genetics and functional traits of short- and long-lived species that are co-occurring in the steppes of Mongolia. Mongolian steppes represent stressful and water-limited habitats, demanding phenotypic modifications in the short term and/or genetic adaptation in the long term.

Objective: We aim to determine the association between preoperative CT scan findings of thyroid cartilage invasion, cricoid cartilage invasion, and paraglottic space involvement with tumor extension to the thyroid gland on final histopathology among patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in a tertiary hospital in the Philippines.
Methods: Patients with histopathologically-confirmed laryngeal SCC who underwent total laryngectomy with thyroidectomy while admitted at the public ward of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Philippine General Hospital, from January 2013 to December 2019 were included. CT scans were reviewed by 2 blinded independent radiologists.

Layered framework materials, a rapidly advancing class of porous materials, are composed of molecular components stitched together via covalent bonds and are usually synthesized through wet-chemical methods. Computational infrared (IR) and Raman spectra are among the most important characterization tools for this material class. Besides the known spectra of the molecular building blocks and the solvent, they allow for monitoring of the framework formation during synthesis.

This review dives into the complex dynamics of bone remodeling, combining biological insights with mathematical perspectives to better understand this fundamental aspect of skeletal health. Bone, being a crucial part of our body, constantly renews itself, and with the growing number of individuals facing bone-related issues, research in this field is vital. In this review, we categorized and classified most common mathematical models used to simulate the mechanical behavior of bone under different loading and health conditions, shedding light on the evolving landscape of bone biology.

Purpose: Clinical validation of "BrainLossNet", a deep learning-based method for fast and robust estimation of brain volume loss (BVL) from longitudinal T1-weighted MRI, for the detection of accelerated BVL in multiple sclerosis (MS) and for the discrimination between MS patients with versus without disability progression.
Materials And Methods: A longitudinal normative database of healthy controls (n = 563), two mono-scanner MS cohorts (n = 414, 156) and a mixed-scanner cohort acquired for various indications (n = 216) were included retrospectively. Mean observation period from the baseline (BL) to the last follow-up (FU) MRI scan was 2-3 years.

We demonstrate the excitation of the gyrotropic mode in a magnetostrictive vortex by time-varying strain. The vortex dynamics is driven by a time-varying voltage applied to the piezoelectric substrate and detected electrically by spin rectification at subthreshold values of rf current. When the frequency of the time-varying strain matches the gyrotropic frequency at a given in-plane magnetic field, the strain-induced in-plane magnetic anisotropy leads to a resonant excitation of the gyration dynamics in the magnetic vortex.

Autonomous driving presents unique challenges, particularly in transferring agents trained in simulation to real-world environments due to the discrepancies between the two. To address this issue, here we propose a robust Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) framework that incorporates platform-dependent perception modules to extract task-relevant information, enabling the training of a lane-following and overtaking agent in simulation. This framework facilitates the efficient transfer of the DRL agent to new simulated environments and the real world with minimal adjustments.
