A key goal of environmental policies and circular economy strategies in the construction sector is to convert demolition and industrial wastes into reusable materials. As an industrial by-product, Waste marble (WM), has the potential to replace cement and fine aggregate in concrete which helps with saving natural resources and reducing environmental harm. While many studies have so far investigated the effect of WM on compressive strength (CS), it is undeniable that conducting experimental activities requires time, money, and re-testing with changing materials and conditions.

In real-world networks, community structures often appear as tightly connected clusters of nodes, with recent studies suggesting a hierarchical organization where larger groups subdivide into smaller ones across different levels. This hierarchical structure is particularly complex in trade networks, where actors typically belong to multiple communities due to diverse business relationships and contracts. To address this complexity, we present a novel algorithm for detecting hierarchical structures of overlapping communities in weighted networks, focusing on the interdependency between internal and external quality metrics for evaluating the detected communities.

Correlated band theory implemented as a combination of the relativistic density functional theory with exact diagonalization [DFT+U(ED)] of the Anderson impurity term with Coulomb repulsion U in the 5f shell is applied to the magnetic field polarized state of [Formula: see text]. We demonstrate that the DFT+U(ED) approach provides a good agreement with very recent x-ray absorbtion near edge structure (XANES) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) experiments. The branching ratio for the [Formula: see text] edge transitions of uranium, and the valence spin-orbit interaction per hole were evaluated in a perfect agreement with the XANES.

J Biol Chem

November 2024

Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The endoplasmic reticulum has organized regions rich in cholesterol and sphingomyelin, where rabbit CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 localize to disordered and ordered microdomains, respectively.
  • Researchers aimed to find specific amino acid residues that determine the microdomain localization of CYP1A enzymes by creating chimeras of the proteins and expressing them in cells.
  • The study identified three amino acids from CYP1A1 that influence localization patterns and suggests that the positive charges in the linker regions of CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 lead to differences in their membrane immersion, explaining their distinct microdomain distributions.
