The aim of the present research work was to develop halogen and formaldehyde-free, durable flame retardant fabric along with multifunctional properties and to find the optimal conditions and parameters. In this research, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were grown onto 100% cotton fabric using the sonochemical method. Zinc acetate dihydrate (Zn(CHCOO)·2HO) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were used as precursors.

A simple approach to the multiscale analysis of a plain weave reinforced composite made of basalt fabrics bonded to a high performance epoxy resin L285 Havel is presented. This requires a thorough experimental program to be performed at the level of individual constituents as well as formulation of an efficient and reliable computational scheme. The rate-dependent behavior of the polymer matrix is examined first providing sufficient data needed in the calibration step of the generalized Leonov model, which in turn is adopted in numerical simulations.

Advanced solid phase extraction (SPE) fibrous sorbents including polyethylene, polypropylene poly (hydroxybutyrate), and polyamide 6 nanofibers, polycaprolactone microfibers/nanofibers, polycaprolactone microfibers/polyvinylidene difluoride nanofibers, and poly (hydroxybutyrate) microfibers/polypropylene microfibers composites, as well as commercial molecularly imprinted polymers and restricted access media sorbent were compared in terms of bisphenols extraction from milk and their clean-up efficiency. Three on-line SPE-HPLC methods were completely validated for the extraction and detection of bisphenols A, AF, C, A diglycidyl ether, and F diglycidyl ether in bovine milk. Polycaprolactone composite nanofibers compared favorably to restricted access media, enabled excellent clean-up of bisphenols from the proteinaceous matrix, and yielded recoveries 98.

The alteration in mechanical properties of posterior pelvis ligaments may cause a biased pelvis deformation which, in turn, may contribute to hip and spine instability and malfunction. Here, the effect of different mechanical properties of ligaments on lumbopelvic deformation is analyzed via the finite element method. First, the improved finite element model was validated using experimental data from previous studies and then used to calculate the sensitivity of lumbopelvic deformation to changes in ligament mechanical properties, load magnitude, and unilateral ligament resection.

The paper introduces the concept of the rational design of a deployable humeral intramedullary nail plug based on a honeycomb structure used for the surgical treatment of humeral shaft fractures. The concept serves for to restore the axial alignment of bone fragments and to maintain stability via bone-nail friction and locking screws. Polymeric nano- and microfibers were tested as potential sorbents for the extraction of five neonicotinoids from natural waters. Nanofibrous mats were prepared from polycaprolactone, polyvinylidene fluoride, polystyrene, polyamide 6, polyacrylonitrile, and polyimide, as well as microfibers of polyethylene, a polycaprolactone nano- and microfiber conjugate, and polycaprolactone microfibers combined with polyvinylidene fluoride nanofibers. Polyimide nanofibers were selected as the most suitable sorbent for these analytes and the matrix.

Background: The spatially varying mechanical properties in finite element models of bone are most often derived from bone density data obtained via quantitative computed tomography. The key step is to accurately and efficiently map the density given in voxels to the finite element mesh.

Halogenated organic compounds are naturally occurring in subsurface environments; however, accumulation of the degradative intermediate cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cDCE) at soil and groundwater sites contaminated with xenobiotic chlorinated ethenes is a global environmental and public health issue. Identifying microorganisms capable of cDCE degradation in these environments is of interest because of their potential application to bioremediation techniques. In this study, we sequenced, assembled, and analyzed the complete genome of Acinetobacter pittii CEP14, a strain isolated from chloroethene-contaminated groundwater, that has demonstrated the ability for aerobic cometabolic degradation of cDCE in the presence of n-hexane, phenol, and toluene.

Propagation of acoustic emission signals in continuous conjugated media under real-time loading was explored. The results of explored plastic deformation polymer coatings on a metal base using the acoustic emission method with synchronization of deformations and the moments of occurrence of acoustic emission signals are presented. Using the principal component method, the acoustic emission spectra, which make it possible to trace the evolution of deformation transformation processes, were analyzed.

In the present study, the possibility of using a spiral-wound diffusion dialysis module was studied for the separation of hydrochloric acid and Zn2+, Ni2+, Cr3+, and Fe2+ salts. Diffusion dialysis recovered 68% of free HCl from the spent pickling solution contaminated with heavy-metal-ion salts. A higher volumetric flowrate of the stripping medium recovered a more significant portion of free acid, namely, 77%.
