Nanocolloids are receiving considerable attention in regard to their properties and future applications, especially as heat transfer fluids and phase change materials for energy storage. Additionally, studies on ionic liquids and ionic-liquid-based nanocolloids are at the forefront of research preoccupations. This study aims to shed light on applications of nanocolloids based on [C4mim][BF4] ionic liquid, giving insight into the electrical conductivity of [C4mim][BF4] ionic liquid, as well as three types of nanoparticles suspended in this particular ionic liquid, namely AlO (alumina), ZnO (zinc oxide) and MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotubes).

Three new Metal-Organic Frameworks, containing mesitylene tribenzoic acid as a linker and zinc () or cadmium as metals (,), were synthesized through solvothermal reactions, using DMF/ethanol/water as solvents, at temperatures of 80 °C (structures and ) and 120 °C (structure ). Following single-crystal X-ray diffraction, it was found that and crystallize in the 2/ and C2/ space groups and form 2D networks, while crystallizes in the 2 space group, forming a 3D network. All three frameworks, upon heating, were found to be stable up to 350 °C.

New aspects concerning the photodegradation (PD) of ampicillin are reported by photoluminescence (PL), Raman scattering and FTIR spectroscopy. The exposure of ampicillin in the absence (AM) and in the presence of the excipient (AMP) to UV light leads to an intensity diminution of the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra and the emergence of a new IR band at 3450 cm. The photoluminescence studies demonstrate that the AM PD is amplified in the presence of excipients and an alkaline medium.

In this work, improved fracture toughness of tetra-functional epoxy polymer was obtained using two-dimensional (2H polytype) molybdenum disulfide (MoS) nano-platelets as a filler. Simultaneous in-situ exfoliation and functionalization of MoS were achieved in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) via sonication. The aim was to improve the dispersion of MoS nanoplatelets in epoxy and enhance the interfacial interaction between nanoplatelets and epoxy matrix.

High-risk arsenic contamination found in aqueous system is reported across the world and causing severe environmental issues. In this study, the Mg-Al Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) modified by sulphur species (LDH-S) was found exhibiting high effectivity and selectivity in As(V) removal owing to the strong interaction between embedded HS and AsO. The LDH-S with Mg to Al ratio 2-1 give the best performance with As(V) adsorption capacity 40.

This paper prepared composites under the free membranes form that are based on thermoplastic polymers of the type of polyurethane (TPU) and polyolefin (TPO), which are blended in the weight ratio of 2:1, and ceramic nanoparticles (CNs) such as BaSrTiO and SrTiO. The structural, optical, and conductive properties of these new composite materials are reported. The X-ray diffraction studies highlight a cubic crystalline structure of these CNs.

Composites of magnetite (FeO) nanoparticles dispersed in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix were prepared by a molding process. Two types of samples were obtained by free polymerization with randomly dispersed particles and by polymerization in an applied magnetic field. The magnetite nanoparticles were obtained from magnetic micrograins of acicular goethite (α-FeOOH) and spherical hematite (α-FeO), as demonstrated by XRD measurements.

In this work, new films containing composite materials based on blends of thermoplastic polymers of the polyurethane (TPU) and polyolefin (TPO) type, in the absence and presence of BaTiO nanoparticles (NPs) with the size smaller 100 nm, were prepared. The vibrational properties of the free films depending on the weight ratio of the two thermoplastic polymers were studied. Our results demonstrate that these films are optically active, with strong, broad, and adjustable photoluminescence by varying the amount of TPU.

In this research, the electrical conductivity of simple and hybrid nanofluids containing AlO, TiO and SiO nanoparticles and water as the base fluid was experimentally studied at ambient temperature and with temperature variation in the range of 20-60 °C. A comparison of the experimental data with existing theoretical models demonstrated that the theoretical models under-predict the experimental data. Consequently, several correlations were developed for nanofluid electrical conductivity estimation in relation to temperature and volume concentration.

The present study focuses on the results of the program among participating smokers treated in three smoking cessation centers from three main cities of Romania: Iasi, Targu Mures and Cluj. Telephone interviews of 832 subjects from three databases of the Romanian cessation clinics of Iasi, Cluj and Targu Mures cities were conducted.

Oleate/LDH composites have been obtain by calcination-reconstruction procedures by the successive uses of the anionic clay memory effect. XRD and FTIR analysis were used to study the structural characteristics of the hybrid samples. The amount of oleate in the hybrid formulation of the clay matrix is highest after the second calcination-reconstruction cycle.

The aim of this paper is theophylline (THP) inclusion into xanthan-chitosan polyionic complex (Xa-CS) and the study of its in vitro and in vivo kinetic release. Xa-CS hydrogel was obtained by ionic complexation between two oppositely charged polysaccharides. THP was loaded into the Xa-CS matrix by diffusion of the drug solution.

Nanostructured ensembles of silver nanoparticles/zinc-substituted anionic clay matrix (Ag/ZnLDH) were obtained by a simple synthetic route in which reconstruction of the layered clay, synthesis of the silver nanoparticles and their organisation on the clay surface took place in a single step at room temperature. The morphology, composition and phase structure of the prepared powders were characterised by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and N(2) adsorption. Results showed that the silver-anionic clay nanoarchitecture consists of nanoparticles of silver (average size 7 nm) deposited on the larger nanoparticles of clay (average size 85 nm).

The use of aqueous polyethylene glycol-inorganic salt two-phase systems for the extraction of metal ions has a great potential due to their durability, non-toxicity and relative low cost. The aqueous phases can be easily separated by centrifugation, and the operation is possible in a range of experimental conditions. The experimental results have shown that for a given aqueous two-phase system, the extraction behaviour of metal ions in presence of inorganic extractants is mainly dependent on the stability of extracted species.

Five non-precious Ni-Co based alloys were analyzed with respect to their corrosion behaviour. The correlation between the amount of the elements Cr, Mo, V and the corrosion behaviour, expressed by the PREN (pitting resistance equivalent number) index in the case of the allied steels, was extended for Ni-Cr and Co-Cr dental alloys characterization. Open circuit potential, corrosion current densities, as a measure of the corrosion rate, and main parameters of the corrosion process were evaluated from linear and cyclic polarization curves, for five Ni-Cr or Co-Cr alloys in an Afnor type artificial saliva.

The photodegradation of five representative nitromusk compounds in water has been performed in a stirred batch photoreactor with a UV low-pressure immersed mercury lamp, at constant temperature and different doses of hydrogen peroxide. The rate constants have been calculated on the basis of experimental data and a postulated first-order kinetic model. The rate constants, at 298 K and a dose of 1.
