Background: The short-wavelength-sensitive (SWS) cone-mediated sensitivity is a sensitive indicator of functional changes of the macula in diabetic maculopathy. This study was performed to investigate whether functional losses of the macula are detectable in patients without a significant macular edema.

Methods: In 45 patients with diabetes mellitus with clear optical media and no macular edema, conventional white-on-white perimetry (WWP) and short-wavelength automated perimetry (SWAP) were performed in the central 10-deg field.

Aims: To determine interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 concentrations in the lower uterine segment in patients with chorioamnionitis compared to those without.

Methods: Biopsy specimens from the lower uterine segment of 33 patients with chorioamnionitis were matched to specimens of 33 patients without. The biopsies had been taken during cesarean section.

Objective: Our purpose was to determine whether the expression of certain adhesion molecules by endothelium in the human lower uterine segment at term varies with the degree of cervical dilatation.

Study Design: Biopsy specimens of the lower uterine segment of 34 women undergoing cesarean section at term at various stages of cervical dilatation were immunostained for endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecule-1, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, and platelet-endothelial cell adhesion molecule.

Results: The expression of endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecule-1 was significantly greater at more than 6 cm dilatation than at less than 2 cm (p = 0.

Objective: The transcallosal route has been propagated as a safe approach to midline tumors. The present study was performed in order to elucidate the neurobehavioral late sequelae in patients after transcallosal microsurgery on near-midline tumors.

Experimental Design: The present study was performed retrospectively with a delay between surgery and follow-up examination ranging from 2 to 36 months (mean 10.

The influence of symptomatological and non-symptomatological factors on the long-term outcome of schizoaffective and schizophrenic disorders was investigated using the Analysis of Linear Structural Relationships (LISREL). The outcome was assessed employing the GAS, WHO/DAS, PIRS and the Bonn Criteria of Outcome. The analysis produced some interesting results in both groups, separately and in comparison with each other.
