Pesticide residues in food and their hazardous effects have attracted much attention given the increased and widespread use of pesticides. The long-term consumption of food containing pesticide residues is an important pathway for the gradual accumulation of pesticides in the human body. Urine is often monitored as a biological sample for low-dose exposure to pesticides, and urine collection is a relatively convenient sampling technique in general population research.

Biomonitoring methods can be used to measure exposure to antibiotics in the general population; however, epidemiological data on the associations between urinary antibiotic levels and the cardiac profiles of enzymes lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, and creatine kinase isoenzyme in older adults remain sparse. We investigated these associations in 990 individuals from the Cohort of Elderly Health and Environment Controllable Factors. Antibiotic residues in urine samples were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Objective: An optimized quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) technique was investigated and compared with the conventional QuEChERS technique for the simultaneous analysis of fifty-three pesticide residues in safflower using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS).
Method: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) consisting of a major amount of carbon and nitrogen with a large surface area was used as a QuEChERS adsorbent instead of graphitized carbon black (GCB) for safflower extraction purification. Validation experiments were performed using spiked pesticide samples, and real samples were analyzed.

In this study, pectin (PEC) and pea protein isolate(PPI) was successfully used to create complexes as a novel delivery system for pterostilbene (PT). When the mass ratio of PEC to PPI was 0.5, the particle size and ζ-potential of PPI-PEC-PT were 119.

We investigated adsorption characteristics of As(III) and As(V) onto two different functionalized polystyrene (PS) microplastics (MPs). Our results show that there is the potential for PS MPs to adsorb both As(III) and As(V). Using a particle size of 80-82 nm, maximum As(III) and As(V) adsorption capacities of 0.

The potential of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) to act as a carrier for heavy metals derived from the environment is of rising concern to the health of global ecosystems. Here, we investigated the effects of particle size of polystyrene micro/nano plastics on the uptake, accumulation, and toxicity of As in rice seedlings in a hydroponic system. Significant differences in As uptake and accumulation in different plant tissue were observed between the plants co-exposed to 82 nm NPs + As and 200 nm MPs + As.

Branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) catabolism is related to tumorigenesis. However, the underlying mechanism and specific contexts in which BCAAs affect tumor progression remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that BCAA catabolism is activated in liver cancer cells without glutamine.

During development, melanopsin-expressing intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) become light sensitive much earlier than rods and cones. IpRGCs project to many subcortical areas, whereas physiological functions of these projections are yet to be fully elucidated. Here, we found that ipRGC-mediated light sensation promotes synaptogenesis of pyramidal neurons in various cortices and the hippocampus.
