Background: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of BioMime sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) system, with an ultra-low strut thickness (65 µm), in real-world all-comers population with coronary artery stenosis (CAD).
Methods: This was a post-marketing, multicenter, single-arm, observational clinical registry among patients undergoing intervention for CAD. Patients were clinically followed up at 1, 9, 12, and 24 months after the index percutaneous coronary intervention.

Chronic kidney disease of unknown aetiology (CKDu) is a major public health problem in Sri Lanka, especially among agrarian communities. Although the cause of CKDu is still unknown, hantavirus infection has been proposed as a risk factor. This study was performed using serological samples collected from two CKDu-endemic areas, Anuradhapura (2010) and Badulla districts (2010 and 2016), and a non-endemic area, Matale (2016) district.

Background: Chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) is reported among male paddy farmers in the dry zone of Sri Lanka. The exact cause of this disease remains undetermined. Genetic susceptibility is identified as a major risk factor for CKDu Objectives: In this study, small urinary RNAs were characterized in CKDu patients, healthy endemic and non-endemic controls.

Background: The selection and categorisation of laboratory tests in disease activity measures used within systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) trial endpoints lack strong evidence. We aimed to determine whether longitudinal improvements in routinely measured laboratory tests are associated with measures of clinical improvement in patients with baseline active SLE.
Methods: We included patients from a multicentre longitudinal cohort (recruited between May 1, 2013, and Dec 31, 2019) with active SLE (SLEDAI-2K ≥6) coinciding with an abnormality in at least one of 13 routine laboratory tests, at a visit designated as baseline.

is a tropical climber, whose seeds contain abrin, which is known to cause toxicity in humans. We report a case of a young girl, who presented with haemorrhagic enterocolitis, bilateral septal vein thrombosis, and basal ganglia haemorrhage leading to seizures and coma, following ingestion of toxic seeds. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first ever case to describe such an intracranial complication of abrin poisoning.

A recent study showed that paranasal air suction can provide relief to migraine headache. However, in order to get the maximum benefit out of it, an easy to use effective air sucker should be available.

During the 2017 outbreak of severe dengue in Sri Lanka, dengue virus (DENV) serotypes 2, 3, and 4 were found to be co-circulating. Our previous study of 295 patients from the National Hospital Kandy in Sri Lanka between March 2017 and January 2018 determined that the dominant infecting serotype was DENV-2. In this study, we aimed to characterize the DENV-3 strains from non-severe and severe dengue patients from our previous study population.

Introduction: In light of the ever-growing mental health disease burden among young people worldwide, we aim to systematically review the global literature to identify the public health programmes targeted at promoting mental health and well-being in young people, the reported/anticipated mental health-related outcomes of the implemented public health programmes and the reported facilitators and barriers in relation to the implementation of those public health programmes.
Methods And Analysis: A comprehensive literature search will be carried out in the following electronic bibliographic databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Scopus, ASSIA, Web of Science, Global Health, AMED, Health Source and The Cochrane Library. Further, a manual search of the reference lists of eligible studies and reviews will be carried out.

Background: Indwelling central venous catheters (CVC) are used to provide long term hemodialysis. The commonest and the severe complication of CVC is the central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI). This study was done to assess the etiology and infectious complications of CVC in children on long term hemodialysis.

Background: Sri Lanka experienced its largest dengue outbreak in 2017 with more than 185,000 dengue cases including at least 250 fatalities.
Objectives: Our study aimed to characterize the clinical, immunological and virological features of confirmed dengue patients in Sri Lanka during the outbreak in 2017 when unusual manifestations of severe dengue were observed.
Study Design: Sera from 295 patients who were admitted to Teaching Hospital Kandy, Kandy, Sri Lanka between March 2017- January 2018 were subjected to NS1 antigen, IgM and IgG ELISAs, virus isolation, conventional and real time RT-PCR and next generation sequencing.

Background: Thrombotic microangiopathy is a pathological condition comprised of microvascular thrombosis involving any organ of the body leading to thrombocytopenia, Coombs-negative hemolytic anemia, and end-organ damage. The most common forms of thrombotic microangiopathies are Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli-mediated hemolytic uremic syndrome, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome. The atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome occurs due to genetic and acquired mutations in complement regulatory factors and to complement activation factors in the immune system, mainly the alternative pathway.

Chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) imposes a substantial burden on public health in Sri Lankan agricultural communities. High seroprevalences of hantavirus have been reported in CKDu patients in several locations of Sri Lanka. We carried out a cross-sectional study followed by an unmatched case-control comparison in two geographically distinct areas of Sri Lanka, Girandurukotte (CKDu endemic) and Kandy (CKDu non-endemic) to determine whether exposure to hantaviruses is a potential risk factor in patients with kidney disease.

Aim: To estimate prevalence and phenotypic associations of selected inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)-associated genetic variants among Sri Lankan patients.
Methods: A case study of histologically confirmed ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn's disease (CD) patients with ≥ 1 year disease duration, who were compared to unrelated, gender-matched, healthy individuals as controls, was conducted at four major centers in Sri Lanka. Phenotypic data of the cases were obtained and all participants were genotyped for 16 selected genetic variants: :, :, :, :, /:, :, :, :, :, /:, :, :, :, :, , , , :, , , and :.
