Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is an uncommon benign odontogenic lesion, with debatable histogenesis and variable histopathology. A systematic and diverse insight into the evolution, clinical presentation, histology, and immunohistochemical findings of this lesion is reviewed and presented. We reviewed the data published from 2000 to 2014 of approximately 255 cases that revealed a significant change in the incidence of predominant site involved, in contrast to the findings published by Reichart.

Apical Closure of Nonvital Permanent Teeth: 15 Months Follow-up Study of Four Cases.

J Int Oral Health

May 2015

Postgraduate Student, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Vasantdada Patil Dental College, Kavalapur, Sangli, Maharashtra, India.

Obtaining a complete seal of the root canal system is a major problem in performing root canal treatment in nonvital teeth with incomplete root development and wide open apices. The aim was to study apexification using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), clinically and radiographically over a period of 15 months. MTA was used in four cases of teeth with incomplete root development in order to achieve an apical seal and the remaining canal was obturated with gutta-percha.

Context: The enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), which is found in almost all the cells of body tissues, can be separated into five fractions and the isoenzyme pattern is believed to vary according to the metabolic requirement of each tissue. LDH concentration in saliva, as an expression of cellular necrosis, could be considered to be a specific indicator for oral lesions that affect the integrity of the oral mucosa.

Aim: The present study was designed to evaluate salivary LDH isoenzyme pattern in oral leukoplakia (OL) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to correlate between LDH isoenzyme levels and histopathologic grading in selected cases of OL and OSCC.

Article Synopsis
  • This meta-analysis compares conventional implant designs to "platform-switched" implants, focusing on their impact on crestal bone loss.
  • A thorough literature review analyzed various studies, finding that platform-switched implants led to significantly less marginal bone loss than platform-matched implants.
  • The study concludes that platform switching may help maintain bone and tissue levels around implants, but more long-term studies are needed to fully understand its effectiveness and optimal design.

Purpose: Host modulatory therapy has been proposed as a treatment for periodontal diseases. A class of herbal medicines, known to be immunomodulators, alters the activity of immune function through the regulation of informational molecules such as cytokines. In the current study, we tested the hypothesis that herbal immunomodulator drugs act as an adjuvant to scaling and root planing (SRP) in alleviating periodontal inflammation by improving clinical and biochemical parameters.

October 2014

Dean, Professor, and Head of Department, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Tatyasaheb Kore Dental College and Research Centre, Warnanagar, Maharashtra, India.

Statement Of Problem: Although criteria for assessing bone quality have been reported, an overall score that correlates bone quality with the primary stability and secondary stability of implants is not yet available.

Purpose: The purpose of this article was to propose a scoring index that will establish a correlation among the bone density values from computed tomography, maximum insertion torque values, and resonance frequency analysis in different phases of implant treatment.

Material And Methods: In this study, 60 implant sites were evaluated to assess bone density (Hounsfield units), insertion torque values (Ncm), and primary stability and secondary stability (implant stability quotient values obtained by using resonance frequency analysis).

Purpose: Periodontitis is an infectious disease caused predominantly by gram-negative anerobes. The host inflammatory response to these bacteria causes alveolar bone loss that is characterized as periodontitis. Omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3 FAs) have anti-inflammatory properties, thus have been used to treat some chronic inflammatory diseases such as cardiovascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
