Background: The clinicoradiological staging for esophageal cancer is fraught with variable accuracy, potentially depriving patients who have been understaged of the benefit of neoadjuvant therapy, which has been shown to improve long-term survival in locally advanced malignancies. It is imperative to identify these high-risk tumors for tailored treatment.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of a prospective database of patients undergoing esophagectomy for carcinoma esophagus between 2011 and 2019.

Purpose: Standard neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) for locally advanced esophageal/gastroesophageal junction squamous cancer (LAEGSC), 5-fluorouracil (5FU)+platinum, is toxic and logistically challenging; alternative regimens are needed.

Patients And Methods: Phase III randomized open-label non-inferiority trial at Tata Memorial Center, India, in resectable LAEGSC. Patients were randomized 1:1 to three cycles of 3-weekly platinum (cisplatin 75 mg/m2 or carboplatin AUC 6) with paclitaxel 175 mg/m2 (day 1) or 5FU 1000 mg/m2 continuous infusion (days 1-4), followed by surgery.

Pediatric chronic myeloid leukemia (pCML) is a rare malignancy accounting for only 2%-3% of all childhood leukemias. Due to this rarity, familiarity with pCML is limited among most pediatric practitioners, including even pediatric hemato-oncologists. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), limited financial resources and limited data specific to pCML represent obstacles that healthcare providers must face in diagnosing and treating this rare condition in children.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the imaging characteristics of supratentorial ependymomas (STE), rare tumors primarily found in children, using CT and MRI scans from 25 patients.
  • Key findings suggest that STEs often occur near ventricles and are associated with cystic components and specific imaging signs like the periwinkle sign.
  • The research also highlights significant links between these imaging features and the presence of a particular genetic alteration (ZFTA fusion), aiming to improve diagnosis and treatment outcomes.

Background: Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs) frequently occur in the intensive care unit (ICU) and are correlated with a significant burden.

Methods: We implemented a strategy involving a 9-element bundle, education, surveillance of CAUTI rates and clinical outcomes, monitoring compliance with bundle components, feedback of CAUTI rates and performance feedback. This was executed in 299 ICUs across 32 low- and middle-income countries.

The aim of this publication is the assessment of the existing guidelines for non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) superficial brachytherapy (BT) and make a critical review based on the existing literature about the maximum dose prescription depth, bolus thickness and maximum skin surface dose (D) of the published clinical practice. A systematic review of NMSC superficial BT published articles was carried out by the GEC-ESTRO Head & Neck and Skin (HNS) Working Group (WG). 10 members and 2 external reviewers compared the published clinical procedures with the recommendations in the current guidelines and examined the grade of evidence.

However, its demographics, presentation, radiology and treatment strategy differ from those of osteosarcoma. Its diagnosis can be at times challenging due to radiological and pathological mimics which have more common incidence.

Introduction: Capecitabine-temozolomide (CAPTEM) chemotherapy, alone or with concurrent peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), has activity in advanced WHO grade 2 and grade 3 neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs). The objective of this study was to evaluate the activity of the CAPTEM in patients with grade 2 and grade 3 NENs and identify prognostic factors.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with metastatic grade 2 and grade 3 NENs, who were having baseline significant dual uptake on 68Ga-DOTATATE/18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET-CT scan and treated with CAPTEM chemotherapy between January 2014 and December 2019 at Tata Memorial Hospital, was conducted.
