Background: The global population aged 80 years or older is expected to triple by 2050, leading to an increased cancer burden in the oldest population. This study describes the estimated cancer incidence and mortality in 2022 and projections for 2050 in the oldest old, analyzed globally and by world regions and World Bank income levels, for all sexes combined, as well as separately for males and females.
Methods: Using GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates, we reported the estimated number of new cancer cases (excluding non-melanoma skin cancers), deaths, and truncated age-standardized incidence (ASIR) and mortality rates (ASMR) (per 100,000 individuals aged 80 years or older).

Rehabilitation of a bilateral maxillectomy defect is highly challenging. Reconstruction with a free-fibula flap provides optimal coverage and allows prosthetic rehabilitation with dental implant-retained prostheses. Deficient height of the fibula bone, especially in the pediatric population or in young adults, may complicate the rehabilitation process.

Erdheim-Chester Disease (ECD) is a rare, multisystem histiocytic disorder characterized by its variable clinical presentations. Central Nervous System (CNS) involvement is observed in approximately half of ECD patients (up to 76% in some series), and often carries a poorer prognosis. While CNS involvement may remain asymptomatic, others may experience a range of neurological symptoms, including cognitive decline, neuropsychiatric disturbances, motor deficits, cranial or peripheral neuropathies, and endocrine abnormalities.

Purpose: Frozen section analysis has been a cornerstone in intraoperative pathological evaluation for oral cancer surgeries, aiding in achieving tumor-free margins. However, its utility and availability are subjects of ongoing debate and research. This study evaluates the efficacy of a guideline-based approach to surgical resection margins in the absence of frozen section analysis in a resource-constrained setting.

Pediatric chronic myeloid leukemia (pCML) is a rare childhood malignancy, representing 2%-3% of all childhood leukemia. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have greatly improved survival but pose challenges due to their long-term effects on growth and bone health in children. We prospectively studied treatment-free remission (TFR) in 45 children with pCML in chronic phase on imatinib.

Low- and middle-income countries have a higher incidence and poorer outcome with sepsis. Large epidemiological studies in sepsis using Sepsis-3 criteria, addressing the process of care and deriving predictors of mortality are scarce in India.

Warthin's tumor constitute a minority of salivary gland neoplasms. It is a monomorphic adenoma commonly involving the parotid gland and considered to be unique because of its histological appearance, unknown origin and pathogenesis. Large, bilateral Warthin's tumor of the parotid gland is clinically very rare.

We present the first and a rare case of orthotopic renal auto-transplantation in the management of postchemotherapy residual retroperitoneal mass encasing the left renal vessels but sparing the parenchyma in a 24-year-old patient with Stage IIIC nonseminomatous germ cell tumor after 4 cycles of chemotherapy. Immediate postoperative and 6 months' follow-up renograms confirmed the maintained glomerular filtration rate of the transplanted kidney with no residual disease. This case report shows the feasibility of renal autotransplantation in carefully selected patients as they are young and have long-term survival.

Revision thyroid surgery for residual/recurrent disease is known to have higher complication rates because of parathyroid injury and recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) damage. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of USG in predicting recurrent disease and disease outcomes in patients undergoing reoperation for recurrent/residual thyroid cancer. We performed a retrospective analysis of all thyroid reoperations from 2015 to 2017.

Introduction: There is no clear consensus on using the response MRI as opposed to the pretreatment MRI for surgical planning in cT4 low rectal cancer. The objective of this study is to determine the safety of using response MRI in surgical planning for T4 rectal cancer.
Methods: This study is a retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database of abdominoperineal resections conducted at a single tertiary cancer center.

Peritoneal metastases synchronously occurring in the patient with primary colon cancer causes that patient to be at high risk for subsequent disease progression within the abdomen and pelvis. If peritoneal metastases are preoperatively diagnosed, patients are likely to be treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy with or without biological therapy prior to cytoreductive surgery (CRS). However, if one only considers patients with peritoneal metastases unexpectedly identified at the time of primary colon cancer resection, the optimal management strategy is neither standardized nor evidence based.

Purpose: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) is the sixth most common cancer, with approximately 225,419 new cases with over 125,000 deaths annually in India. This trial compared the efficacy and safety of biosimilar cetuximab versus innovator cetuximab (IC) in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with recurrent locoregional or metastatic SCCHN.
Methods: This phase III trial is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind and parallel group study performed in Indian patients with recurrent locoregional or metastatic SCCHN.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there were reports of a shortage of ventilators and oxygen supply, particularly in resource-limited settings. We report the preliminary evaluation of a non-invasive positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) mask in hospitalized non-critically ill patients with COVID-19.
Methods: We randomly assigned hospitalized adult patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection and requiring greater than 40% supplemental oxygen to either standard care oxygen delivery (control) or via Materialise passive non-invasive PEEP device mask (intervention; Belgium).

Background: Extramural vascular invasion (EMVI) is a bad prognostic feature in rectal cancer and cancers that remain EMVI positive after neoadjuvant therapy are at high risk for having involved circumferential resection margins. Conventional total mesorectal excision (TME) resections are inadequate in such cases and often lead to positive margins.
Methods: We propose a technique for the surgical management of locally advanced tumours with persistent EMVI after neoadjuvant therapy.

Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) has demonstrated immense promise as a treatment for patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET) who have somatostatin receptor (SSTR) expression. PRRT significantly reduces tumor growth, stabilizes the disease, and prolongs survival in a significant percentage of patients with metastatic/advanced NET. It produces an important beneficial effect on the quality of life (QOL) and effectively alleviates symptoms in patients with NET.

Background: Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into intensive care practices can enhance patient care by providing real-time predictions and aiding clinical decisions. However, biases in AI models can undermine diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, particularly in visual representations of healthcare professionals. This work aims to examine the demographic representation of two AI text-to-image models, Midjourney and ChatGPT DALL-E 2, and assess their accuracy in depicting the demographic characteristics of intensivists.
