Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disease with high morbidity and mortality in the elderly, so, detection of its biomarker for definite diagnosis of Alzheimer's in the early stage of disease is a challenge. Amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) chosen as an Alzheimer's biomarker. Here, we developed novel, semi-solid, three-dimensional hydrogel matrices for ratiometric fluorescence detection of Aβ.

Background: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is a gold standard to assess the impact of stenosis on the blood flow. The FFR method enhances diagnostic accuracy, lessens the need for stenting, and reduces costs. However, FFR is used in less than 10% of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures because it needs pressure wires to measure the distal and proximal pressures and adenosine to create hyperemic conditions.

Preconditioning of sperm using sub-lethal oxidative stress before cryopreservation is an innovative approach that can improve sperm cryo-survival. Mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (UCPs) are critical in reducing ROS level during stress conditions. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether mild sub-lethal stress induced by low concentrations of nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide has a protective effect on quality parameters of post-thaw bull semen through modulations of mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) expression.

Metformin, cimetidine, and ibuprofen separately exhibit immunomodulatory and anti-tumorigenic effects. Herein, the impacts of metformin alone and in combination with cimetidine/ibuprofen on some Th1- and regulatory T (Treg) cell-related parameters were evaluated using a breast cancer (BC) model. For establishing the BC model, four groups of Balb/c mice were challenged with the carcinoma cell line.

This study proposes a sustainable closed-loop supply chain under uncertainty to create a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper, a novel stochastic optimization model integrating strategic and tactical decision-making is presented for the sustainable closed-loop supply chain network design problem. This paper for the first time implements the concept of sustainable closed-loop supply chain for the application of ventilators using a stochastic optimization model.

The mutations are genetic changes in the genome sequences and have a significant role in biotechnology, genetics, and molecular biology even to find out the genome sequences of a cell DNA along with the viral RNA sequencing. The mutations are the alterations in DNA that may be natural or spontaneous and induced due to biochemical reactions or radiations which damage cell DNA. There is another cause of mutations which is known as transposons or jumping genes which can change their position in the genome during meiosis or DNA replication.

Research Question: Membrane lipid replacement (MLR) of oxidized membrane lipids can restore sperm cellular membrane functionality and help improve surface protein stability during cryopreservation. What are the effects of MLR with nano-micelles made from a glycerophospholipid (GPL) mixture and cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin (CLC), on the cryosurvival and expression of acrosome-related proteins in thawed human spermatozoa?

Design: Twenty samples were used to determine the optimum level of nano-micelles by incubation of semen with different concentrations of GPL (0.1 and 1%) and CLC (1 and 2 mg/ml) (including GPL-0.

Reduced ability to retrieve specific autobiographical memories is a well-defined feature of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and science-driven interventions have emerged to improve memory specificity and thereby symptoms. However, research in depressed samples indicates that the ability to flexibly move between retrieval of specific and general memory types (i.e.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how common viral and bacterial infections are in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and explores their potential role in causing the disease.
  • - A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, examining data from 32 studies worldwide, which revealed a pooled prevalence of 53.72% for viral infections and 31.21% for bacterial infections among IPF patients.
  • - The findings indicate that specific infections, like HSV and Streptococcus sp., are particularly prevalent, supporting the idea that these infections may contribute to the progression of IPF.

Extracellular Vesicles as a Neprilysin Delivery System Memory Improvement in Alzheimer's Disease.

Iran J Pharm Res

Department of Neuroscience and Addiction Studies, School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative brain disorder which has no effective treatment yet due to the blood barrier in the brain that limits the drugs with the potential of disease improvement. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are biocompatible nanoparticles with a lipid membrane. These vesicles are secreted from various cells such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and can pass through biological barriers for transfer of information such as signals or be used as carriers for various proteins like Neprilysin (NEP).

Detection of sea-surface small floating targets in maritime high-resolution surveillance radar has been an active area of research in recent years. In this paper, we propose a new detector based on a complex-valued independent component analysis (cICA) algorithm proposed by Geng-Shen Fu et al. called complex entropy rate bound minimization (CERBM), to look for targets in polarimetric radars.

The discharge of toxic elements from tailings soils in the aquatic environments occurs chiefly in the presence of indigenous bacteria. The biotic components may interact in the opposite direction, leading to the formation of a passivation layer, which can inhibit the solubility of the elements. In this work, the influence of jarosite on the bio-immobilization of toxic elements was studied by native bacteria.
