Objective: To investigate the relationship between left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and coronary artery disease in the very elderly (over 80 years old) patients with hypertension.

Methods: One hundred twenty cases of very elderly patients with hypertension admitted to our hospital from March 2018 to December 2020 were selected and divided into two groups: the LVH group and the non-LVH group, all of whom were older aged over 80 years, including 62 patients in the LVH group and 58 patients in the non-LVH group. All patients underwent cardiac color Doppler ultrasound examination, 24-hour dynamic ECG examination, and coronary angiography or coronary CTA examination.

Background: Hemodialysis is a common treatment for patients with end-stage renal failure. Long-term hemodialysis will lead to a series of complications and reduce the quality of life of patients. At present, routine nursing is only limited to in-hospital patients, whereas continuous nursing is an extension of hospital nursing work, which can solve the follow-up health problems of some patients and meet the health needs of patients in their daily life.

The present work describes the systematic development of paclitaxel and naringenin-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). So far only temozolomide therapy is available for the GBM treatment, which fails by large amount due to poor brain permeability of the drug and recurrent metastasis of the tumor. Thus, we investigated the drug combination containing paclitaxel and naringenin for the treatment of GBM, as these drugs have individually demonstrated significant potential for the management of a wide variety of carcinoma.

Effect of childhood overweight on distal metaphyseal radius fractures treated by closed reduction.

J Orthop Surg Res

March 2021

Department of Pediatrics, Tangshan Workers Hospital, 27 Wenhua Road, Lubei District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, People's Republic of China.

Background: The medical community has recognized overweight as an epidemic negatively affecting a large proportion of the pediatric population, but few studies have been performed to investigate the relationship between overweight and failure of conservative treatment for distal radius fractures (DRFs). This study was performed to investigate the effect of overweight on the outcome of conservative treatment for DRFs in children.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study of children with closed displaced distal metaphyseal radius fractures in our hospital from January 2015 to May 2020.

Background: We aimed to investigate the function and underlying mechanisms of circ_0087378 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Methods: We verified higher circ_0087378 expression in ESCC tissues by performing qRT-PCR assays. We further confirmed the oncogenic roles of circ_0087378 in ESCC cells through a series of biological function assays.

Adhesion and scarring after neural surgery are detrimental to nerve regeneration and functional recovery. Amniotic membranes have been used in tissue repair due to their immunogenicity and richness in cytokines. In this study, an electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL)-amnion nanofibrous membrane was prepared for the treatment of sciatic nerve compression in a rat model.

Radiation Therapy (RT), a widely used modality against cancer, depends its effectiveness on three pillars: tumor targeting precision, minimum dose determination and co-administrated agents. The underlying biological processes of the latter two pillars are DNA damage and repair. Hopefully, Radiation treatment has nowadays been improved a lot, in terms of tumor targeting precision as well as in minimization of side effects, by reducing normal tissue radiation exposure and therefore its occurred toxicity.

The human amniotic membrane has been a subject for clinical and basic research for nearly 100 years, but weak rejection has been reported. The purpose of this research is to remove the cellular components of the amnion for eliminating its immune-inducing activity to the utmost extent. The amniotic membrane treated by acid removed the epithelial cell, fibroblast, and sponge layers and retained only the basal and dense layers.

Background: Adhesion after tendon injury is a common complication in clinical practice. The lack of effective prevention mechanisms seriously affects the functional rehabilitation of patients. This research aimed to optimise the amniotic membrane and explain the mechanism of tendon-amniotic membrane by imitating the tendon sheath to construct a multilayer electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibre membrane.

TXNIP deficiency mitigates podocyte apoptosis via restraining the activation of mTOR or p38 MAPK signaling in diabetic nephropathy.

Exp Cell Res

March 2020

Department of Pathology, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, China; Hebei Key Laboratory of Kidney Diseases, Shijiazhuang, China. Electronic address:

Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP), is identified as an inhibitor of the thiol oxidoreductase thioredoxin that acts endogenously, and is increased by high glucose (HG). In this study, we investigated the potential function of TXNIP on apoptosis of podocytes and its potential mechanism in vivo and in vitro in diabetic nephropathy (DN). TXNIP silencing attenuated HG-induced apoptosis and obliterated the activation of signaling pathways of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in conditionally immortalized mouse podocytes.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide and the number of individuals at CAD risk is increasing. To better manage cardiovascular disease, improved tools for risk prediction including the identification of novel accurate biomarkers are needed. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that modulate the expression of protein-coding genes at the post-transcription level and their dysregulated expression has been implicated in various pathogenic processes including cardiovascular disease.
