Background: Labor represents a period of significant physical activity. Inefficient energy supply may delay labor process and even lead to cesarean delivery. Herein we investigated whether ingestion of a carbohydrate-rich beverage could reduce cesarean delivery in laboring women with epidural analgesia.

One-lung ventilation (OLV), a common ventilation technique, is associated with perioperative lung injury, tightly connected with inflammatory responses. Dexmedetomidine has shown positive anti-inflammatory effects in lung tissues in pre-clinical models. This study investigated the efficacy of dexmedetomidine for suppressing inflammatory responses in patients requiring OLV.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) in middle-aged and elderly Chinese men. Two cross-sectional studies were conducted at 5-year intervals in community-dwelling men living in the same area. A total of 1472 (Study 1, S1) and 944 (Study 2, S2) men aged 40-69 years old were recruited as subjects.

The modification of proteins by small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO), known as SUMOylation, regulates biological function by changing protein transcription and translation. During the estrous cycle the endometrium undergoes continual change to processes including cell proliferation, secretion and exfoliation and these changes are regulated by the levels of ovarian hormones. Increasing the expression of SUMO family members has previously been shown to promote proliferation and invasion of endometrial cancer cells.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its relationship with reproductive hormones in adult males in China.

Methods: Using the cluster and stratified sampling methods, we conducted an investigation among 3 600 adult males aged over 20 years in Hebei, Shaanxi and Jiangsu provinces. We obtained their reproductive hormone levels, biochemical indicators and basic body indexes and compared them between the two groups of subjects.

Department of Gynecology, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine, Xianyang, Shaanxi Department of Ultrasound Department of Birth Control, Tangshan Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital, Tangshan, Hebei Emergency Department, Changhai Hospital, Shanghai, China.

The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy and safety between high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment and uterine artery embolization (UAE) treatment; we retrospectively analyzed 152 cases with cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP). Based on our inclusion and exclusion criteria, 152 patients (average age, 31.8 ± 4.

The present study aimed to investigate the role and the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of microRNA-21 (miR-21) on the proliferation, apoptosis and colony formation of cervical cancer cells, and to examine the role of miR-21 in mediating the sensitivity of cervical cancer cells to paclitaxel (PTX). Reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction was employed to determine the level of miR‑21 in various cervical cancer and normal cervical cells. The results revealed that the expression levels of miR-21 in cervical cancer cells were markedly higher when compared with normal cervical cells.

miR-346 promotes migration and invasion of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells via targeting BRMS1.

J Biochem Mol Toxicol

December 2016

Department of Neurosurgery, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University of Medicine, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

The aim of this study is to determine the expression and roles of miR-346 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We showed that miR-346 was upregulated in NPC tissues compared with adjacent non-tumorous nasopharyngeal tissues. Inhibition of miR-346 significantly attenuated the migration and invasion of NPC cells.
