Risk-adapted stereotactic body radiation therapy is preferred over conventional radiotherapy at the authors' institution based on the hypothesis that even with a lower than recommended dose, stereotactic body radiation therapy would yield better local control than conventional radiotherapy. This retrospective study was performed to verify the hypothesis. Data from 34 patients with non-small cell lung cancer, who underwent risk-adapted stereotactic body radiation therapy delivered in 4 fractions between 2012 and 2018, were analyzed.

This study examined the characteristics of the broad model (KBP) through a complete open-loop evaluation of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) plans for prostate cancer in 30 patients at two institutions. KBP, trained using 561 prostate cancer VMAT plans from five institutions with different treatment protocols, was shared with two institutions. The institutions were not involved in the creation of KBP.

Background And Aims: Perforation is a rare but serious adverse event associated with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). There is no consensus to guide clinicians in the management of ERCP-related duodenal perforations, making it difficult to determine whether surgical or endoscopic treatment is optimal. The present study retrospectively evaluated the characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients who experienced ERCP-related duodenal perforations according to the mechanism of injury.

Tenosynovitis with psammomatous calcification (TPC) is an extremely rare condition. It was first described as a characteristic subtype of idiopathic calcifying tenosynovitis, with only 40 cases reported to date. Here, we present a case of TPC affecting a female patient in her late teens, with no relevant medical history.

Although several reports have compared the outcomes of self-expandable metallic stent (SEMSs) and transanal decompression tube (TDT) placement for malignant colorectal obstruction (MCO), few studies have compared the radiation exposure (RE) associated with these two procedures. Consequently, we aimed to compare the RE of SEMS and TDT placements for MCO using propensity score matching (PSM) in a multi-center, prospective observational study. This study investigated the clinical data of 236 patients who underwent SEMS or TDT placement.

The benefits of hypothermia for the treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) remain controversial. In 1999, we initiated brain hypothermia treatment (BHT) in the hyperacute phase to mitigate the evolution of early brain injury in patients with World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) grade V SAH. In June 2014, we introduced endovascular cooling to maintain normothermia for seven days following the initial BHT period.

Unresectable, metastatic, advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) is an aggressive disease and is treated with platinum-containing first-line chemotherapy, followed by immune checkpoint inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates. Response to first-line chemotherapy is a vital priority in sequential treatment strategies because a better response to first-line chemotherapy is associated with a better response to subsequent therapies. Gemcitabine plus carboplatin chemotherapy is conventionally recommended for cisplatin-ineligible patients.

Background: Few prediction models for individuals with early-stage out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) have undergone external validation. This study aimed to externally validate updated prediction models for OHCA outcomes using a large nationwide dataset.
Methods And Results: We performed a secondary analysis of the JAAM-OHCA (Comprehensive Registry of In-Hospital Intensive Care for Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Survival and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) registry.

Complete metastasectomy (CM) in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has demonstrated efficacy in the cytokine era, but its effectiveness in the era of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remains unclear. A multi-institutional database included clinicopathological data of 367 patients with mRCC. Patients were divided into two groups: the CM group and the non-CM group.

Background And Aim: Recently, the use of various endoscopic procedures performed under X-ray fluoroscopy guidance has increased. With the popularization of such procedures, diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) have been widely accepted as the global standard for various procedures with ionizing radiation. The Radiation Exposure from Gastrointestinal Fluoroscopic Procedures (REX-GI) study aimed to prospectively collect actual radiation exposure (RE) data and establish DRLs in gastrointestinal endoscopy units.
