Purpose: Surgical performance that improves with experience is often depicted as representing a "learning curve." Although numerous studies examine the tensile properties of various flexor tendon repairs, few compare the associated learning curves. This study aims to address this gap by comparing the learning curves of Adelaide- and Gan-modified Lim-Tsai repairs.

We aimed to compare the effects of periodic resistance training (RT) and continuous RT on muscle strength and size. Fifty-five healthy, untrained participants (age 32 ± 5 years) were randomized to periodic (PRT, n = 20 completed the study, 45% females) or continuous (CRT, n = 22 completed the study, 45% females) groups. PRT completed a 10-week RT, a 10-week detraining, and a second identical 10-week RT.

Developing microphysiological cell culture platforms with a three-dimensional (3D) microenvironment has been a significant advancement from traditional monolayer cultures. Still, most of the current microphysiological platforms are limited in closed designs, i.e.

However, identifying patients likely to respond remains a challenge, especially for those with relapsed/refractory (R/R) disease. We evaluated the utility of ex vivo venetoclax sensitivity testing to predict treatment responses to venetoclax-azacitidine in a prospective, multicenter, phase 2 trial conducted by the Finnish AML Group (VenEx, NCT04267081).

Introduction: COVID-19 and new guidelines during the pandemic affected the gynecologic cancer treatment pathways, resulting in recorded delays and modifications in the treatment protocols. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in one of the major gynecologic cancer care centers in Finland, Tampere University Hospital.
Material And Methods: Our retrospective register study included 909 patients that were new gynecologic cancer cases (uterine, cervical, vulvar, vaginal, or ovarian) referred to the Tampere University Hospital Gynecologic Oncology Outpatient Clinic between March 17th, 2018, and March 15th, 2022.

Background: Feeding intolerance is common in critically ill patients and can lead to malnutrition. Prokinetic agents may be used to enhance the uptake of nutrition. However, the evidence on the effectiveness and safety of prokinetic agents is sparse, and there is a lack of data on their use in intensive care units (ICU).

Background: The European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation has been proposed to harmonize health data processing. Given its parallels with the Act on Secondary Use of Health and Social Data (Secondary Use Act) implemented in Finland in 2020, this study examines the consequences of heightened privacy constraints on registry-based medical research.
Methods: We collected study permit counts approved by university hospitals in Finland in 2014-2023 and the data authority Findata in 2020‒2023.

Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) assessments and estimates of prognosis are needed for comprehensive care and planning of subsequent treatment in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). We investigated HRQoL and its association with survival using a disease-specific tool in patients with IPF.
Methods: The patients were recruited from the real-life FinnishIPF study in 2015.

Background: There is a scarcity of high-quality research on the efficient delivery of inhaled corticosteroids using valved holding chambers (VHCs) in children.
Methods: The delivered dose (DD) of fluticasone from a metered dose inhaler (pMDI) was tested using four VHCs: AeroChamber plus Flow-Vu (AC), Babyhaler (BH), EasyChamber (EC), and Optichamber Diamond (OD). The in vitro setup included an anatomical child throat model, Next Generation Impactor, and a breathing simulator to generate tidal breathing of a four and a 6-year-old child, and adult type single inhalation.

Background: In Part 1 of the phase III RUBY trial (NCT03981796) in patients with primary advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer (EC), dostarlimab plus carboplatin-paclitaxel (CP) significantly improved progression-free survival and overall survival compared with CP alone. Limited safety data have been reported for the combination of immunotherapies plus chemotherapy in this setting.
Objectives: The objective of this analysis was to identify the occurrence of treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) and immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and to describe irAE management in Part 1 of the RUBY trial.

T cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation are fundamentally driven by shifts in cellular metabolism, with mitochondria playing a central role. Cytochrome c oxidase (COX, complex IV) is a key player in this process, as its activity is crucial for apoptosis, mtDNA maintenance, mitochondrial transcription, and mitochondrial respiration (MR), all of which influence T cell fate and function. Despite its known roles, the specific functions of COX required for T cell activity in vivo remain unclear.
