Background: Aneurysms are one of the most common and yet devastating cerebrovascular diseases after rupture. Despite several decades of scientific advancements including the expansion of the endovascular capabilities and noninvasive imaging modalities, no medical treatment exists to date. This failure is likely largely attributed to the complex and multifactorial nature of aneurysm pathophysiology.

Background: The positive association of health with education level and socioeconomic status (SES) is well-established. Two theoretical frameworks have been delineated to understand main mechanisms leading to socioeconomic health inequalities: social causation and health selection but how these work in adolescence is poorly known. We studied if adolescent health and health behaviours predict higher education and higher SES in adulthood and if family background and school performance in adolescence explain these associations.

Background: The effect of major trauma on subsequent fertility is poorly described. If women have lower fertility after trauma, they would have a lower risk of anti-D mediated hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn in a future pregnancy following the transfusion of RhD-positive blood to RhD-negative women during their resuscitation.
Study Design And Methods: Data was obtained from the Care Register for Health Care, National Medical Birth Register, and open access data from Statistic Finland to evaluate the effect of major trauma (traumatic brain injuries, spine, pelvic, hip/thigh fractures) on the age-specific number of births during years 1998-2018.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke may be due to embolism from ruptured atherosclerotic carotid arteries. DNA of oral bacteria, mainly the viridans streptococci group, has been detected in thrombus aspirates of patients with ischemic stroke as well as in carotid endarterectomy samples. Because viridans streptococci are known to possess thrombogenic properties, we studied whether their presence in thrombus aspirates and in carotid artery specimens can be confirmed using bacterial immunohistochemistry.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the association between epidural labor analgesia and the mode of delivery for the second twin and to analyze the health outcomes of the second twin.
Methods: In this nationwide, retrospective, register-based cohort study, data from the National Medical Birth Register (MBR) of Finland (2004-2018) were used to analyze the association between epidural analgesia and delivery mode (emergency and urgent cesarean section, and assisted vaginal delivery) and fetal outcomes (neonatal mortality and need for intensive care unit admission) for the second twin. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the delivery mode and fetal outcomes of the second twin.
Background Stroke incidence is elevated after acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The aim of this study was to characterize risk factors related to ischemic stroke (IS) after ACS. Methods and Results We conducted a retrospective registry study based on the data of 8049 consecutive patients treated for ACS between 2007 and 2018 in Tays Heart Hospital with a follow-up until December 31, 2020.

Here, we have investigated the outcome of gene deletion in the mouse. The knockout mice are viable showing no gross abnormalities apart from decreased fertility, organ and body size, and decreased number of myeloid cells concomitant with decreased expression of granule protein genes.

Background: There is a paucity of information regarding the association between traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and subsequent multifetal gestations. Since TBIs are known to negatively affect the neuroendocrine system, we hypothesized that the functions of the whole reproductive system might be disturbed as a result. The aim of this study is to determine the association between previous TBIs and the risk of multifetal gestations using nationwide registers.
