Application of droplet-based methods enables (i) faster detection, (ii) increased sensitivity, (iii) characterization of the level of heterogeneity in response to antibiotics by bacterial populations, and (iv) expanded screening of the effectiveness of antibiotic combinations. Hereby, we discuss the key steps and parameters of droplet-based experiments to investigate antimicrobial resistance. We also review recent findings accomplished with these methods and highlight their advantages and capacity to yield new insights into the problem of antimicrobial resistance.

In this work, an acoustic lumped element technique has been developed to measure the dynamic bulk modulus of porous materials in the low frequency range ( f<500 Hz). Based on the electroacoustic analogy of wave propagation inside a porous medium, an analytical derivation of the measurement method is given. Unlike other techniques, it requires the use of only two microphones placed in the cavity containing the sample being tested and in the loudspeaker box.

Contamination by hazardous substances is one of the main environmental problems in the eastern Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea. A trilateral effort to sample and analyse heavy metals (HMs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and organotins from bottom sediments in 2019-2020 were conducted along with harvesting historical data in Russian, Estonian and Finnish waters. We suggest that the input of organotins still occurs along the ship traffic routes.

In this research, we aim to identify the most critical factors to logistics and supply chain performance for a small open economy by reporting survey results from Estonian manufacturing, trading and logistics service companies. By comparing survey results from 2012 and 2018, we also analyze how these critical factors may have changed during the last years.

The discussions around the unsustainability of the dominant socio-economic structures have yet to produce solutions to address the escalating problems we face as a species. Such discussions, this paper argues, are hindered by the limited scope of the proposed solutions within a business-as-usual context as well as by the underlying technological rationale upon which these solutions are developed. In this paper, we conceptualize a radical sustainable alternative to the energy conundrum based on an emerging mode of production and a commons-based political economy.

Narrowband internet of things (NB-IoT) is a recent cellular radio access technology based on Long-Term Evolution (LTE) introduced by Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN).
