Relationship between oxidative stress and endometrial polyps in pre-and postmenopausal women.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between oxidative stress (OS) and endometrial polyps (EP) in pre- versus postmenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding.

Methods: This prospective case control study was conducted in the Gynecology Department of Ankara Bilkent City Hospital between January and December 2019. In this study, the EP and control groups included 45 participants each (30 pre- and 15 postmenopausal women).

Effects of abdominal, vaginal, and laparoscopic hysterectomies on total oxidant/antioxidant levels: A prospective observational study.

This prospective observational study aimed to compare abdominal hysterectomy (AH), vaginal hysterectomy (VH), and total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) in terms of oxidative stress (OS) by measuring serum levels of total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), and oxidative stress index (OSI). Of the 3 groups, namely, AH, VH, and TLH, 22 patients were enrolled in each to investigate the aim of the study mentioned above. Patient demographics, clinical and surgical characteristics, and preoperative and postoperative (0th and 24th hours) serum TAS, TOS, and OSI levels were investigated.

Oxytocin: A Shield against Radiation-Induced Lung Injury in Rats.

Background: Radiation-induced lung injury (RILI), a serious side effect of thoracic radiotherapy, can lead to acute radiation pneumonitis (RP) and chronic pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Despite various interventions, no effective protocol exists to prevent pneumonitis. Oxytocin (OT), known for its anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and antioxidant properties, has not been explored for its potential in mitigating RILI.

Quantitative CT Morphometrics: A Novel Approach for Predicting the Bladder Cancer Grade.

Background and objective Bladder cancer (BC) is a common urothelial neoplasm, with non-muscle invasive forms comprising about 75% of cases and generally having better outcomes than muscle-invasive types. Accurate preoperative grading and staging of BC are essential for appropriate treatment planning. This study investigates the efficacy of computerized tomography (CT) in correlating the morphological features of tumors to predict the histopathological grades of BC.

Mid- to long-term outcomes of proximal humerus fractures treated with open reduction, plate fixation, and iliac bone autograft augmentation.

Background: Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) using locking plates is a widely adopted treatment for displaced proximal humerus fractures. Various augmentation techniques have been developed to enhance the stability of plate fixation. Among these, iliac bone autograft is notable for its advantages over allografts, such as ready availability and the elimination of costs and risks associated with disease transmission.

A COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION OF HEMOGRAM-DERIVED INFLAMMATORY INDICES IN HASHIMOTO THYROIDITIS AND NON-IMMUNOGENIC HYPOTHYROIDISM.

Subjects And Methods: The study included 505 patients, including 190 healthy controls, 166 euthyroid Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), 91 hypothyroid HT, and 58 non- immunogenic hypothyroidism (NIH) patients. The records of the patients in each group were reviewed retrospectively.

Erythrocytic Reduced/Oxidized Glutathione and Serum Thiol/Disulfide Homeostasis in Patients with Opioid Use Disorder.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate oxidative damage by measuring erythrocytic reduced/oxidized glutathione as an intracellular thiol pool and serum thiol/disulfide homeostasis as an extracellular thiol pool in patients with opioid use disorder.

Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study, 33 male patients diagnosed with opioid use disorder and 30 healthy male controls were included. Sociodemographic characteristics and psychometric analyzes were performed and addiction characteristics (duration and amount of heroin use, usage methods) were recorded.

The Uptake of Pneumococcal and Seasonal Influenza Vaccinations Based on Perceptions and Attitudes Toward the COVID-19 Vaccine Among Patients With Diabetes.

Objective In this study, we aimed to assess the rates of pneumococcal and seasonal influenza vaccinations among elderly and nonelderly diabetes patients and examine their perceptions and attitudes toward the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. Methods A single-center study was conducted among patients with diabetes, employing a structured survey encompassing sociodemographic data, vaccination records, and the COVID-19 vaccine perception and attitude scale. Results Among the 280 diabetes patients in our study, the vaccination rates for COVID-19, seasonal influenza, and pneumococcal vaccines were 96.

Gamma Knife radiosurgery for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia: A single center-experience.

Introduction And Objectives: We aimed to assess the outcomes of patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TGN) who underwent Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS).

Materials And Methods: Fifty-three patients with typical TGN underwent GKRS from May 2012 until December 2022. Among these patients, 45 patients who were follow-up for at least 12 months were included in the study.

Mo-fi-disc scoring system: Towards understanding the radiological tools to better delineate the disease process and enhancing our solutions for low back pain in artificial intelligence era.

Background: 'Mo-fi-disc' is a new scoring system that quantifies degeneration of the lumbar spine and predicts the intensity of low back pain (LBP). However, its association with LBP-related disability is unknown. In the present study, we aimed to analyze whether 'Mo-fi-disc' scoring system could predict LBP-related disability and distinguish patients with LBP from asymptomatic subjects, while the spine medicine marching towards the era of artificial intelligence (AI).

Effects of Pulsatile and Non-Pulsatile Cardiopulmonary Bypass Techniques in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgeries on Cerebral Perfusion.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machines used in coronary artery bypass grafting surgeries on cerebral perfusion by performing cerebral oximetry monitoring [near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)], S100-β protein measurements, and neurocognitive function assessment tests using both pulsatile and non-pulsatile modes.

Methods: A total of 44 patients, 22 non-pulsatile (Group NP) and 22 pulsatile (Group P), were included in the study. Hemodynamic parameters, arterial blood gas values, NIRS values and blood S100β protein levels were analyzed at five points: pre-induction (T1), initiation of CPB (T2), termination of CPB (T3), end of surgery (T4), and postoperative 24 h (T5).

Extraosseous Ewing sarcoma of the pancreas: a case report.

Extraosseous Ewing sarcoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy belonging to the Ewing sarcoma family of tumors, primarily affecting soft tissues such as the pelvis, retroperitoneum, and chest wall. Although it predominantly involves these soft tissues, extraosseous Ewing sarcoma can also occur in solid organs, including the pancreas. Here, we present a rare case of a 4-year-old girl diagnosed with primary extraosseous Ewing sarcoma of the pancreas.
