We investigated the impact of C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) on predicting outcomes in 522 patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with lenvatinib. We determined the optimal CAR cutoff value with time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Additionally, we clarified the relationship between CAR and liver function or HCC progression.

We examined 171 patients with novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with liver injury in the respiratory failure groups and the nonrespiratory failure groups and investigated 41 patients with moderate II COVID-19 with respiratory failure who received dexamethasone (Dex) monotherapy in the liver injury group and the nonliver injury group at the time before treatment. The respiratory failure group had 64% more liver damage than the nonrespiratory failure group, was older, had more men, and had significantly more complications from lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Obesity was more common in the liver injury group prior to Dex monotherapy, and the liver CT value was significantly lower than in the nonliver injury group.

Fractal analysis of dynamic, four-dimensional computed tomography myocardial perfusion (4D-CTP) imaging might have potential for noninvasive differentiation of microvascular ischemia and macrovascular coronary artery disease (CAD) using fractal dimension (FD) as quantitative parameter for perfusion complexity. This multi-center proof-of-concept study included 30 rigorously characterized patients from the AMPLIFiED trial with nonoverlapping and confirmed microvascular ischemia (n = 10), macrovascular CAD (n = 10), or normal myocardial perfusion (n = 10) with invasive coronary angiography and fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurements as reference standard. Perfusion complexity was comparatively high in normal perfusion (FD = 4.

Consequently, noninvasive and inexpensive predictors need to be investigated. We therefore explored factors associated with the progression of EVs after the achievement of an SVR with DAAs in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

In this study, we evaluated the improvement of image quality in digital breast tomosynthesis under low-radiation dose conditions of pre-reconstruction processing using conditional generative adversarial networks [cGAN (pix2pix)]. Pix2pix pre-reconstruction processing with filtered back projection (FBP) was compared with and without multiscale bilateral filtering (MSBF) during pre-reconstruction processing. Noise reduction and preserve contrast rates were compared using full width at half-maximum (FWHM), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity (SSIM) in the in-focus plane using a BR3D phantom at various radiation doses [reference-dose (automatic exposure control reference dose: AECrd), 50% and 75% reduction of AECrd] and phantom thicknesses (40 mm, 50 mm, and 60 mm).

We herein report a retrospective analysis of the efficacy of a combination therapy of pelvic irradiation that excluded the common iliac lymph nodes region and image-guided brachytherapy (IGBT) for non-bulky (≤4 cm) cervical cancer. Thirty-three patients with stage I-II cervical squamous cell carcinoma (≤4 cm) and without pelvic/para-aortic lymphadenopathy who were treated with definitive radiotherapy alone between February 2009 and September 2016 were included. The radiotherapy consisted of CT-based small-pelvis irradiation (whole pelvis minus common iliac lymph node area) of 20 Gy/10 fractions followed by pelvic irradiation with a midline block of 30 Gy/15 fractions and IGBT of 24 Gy/4 fractions (6 Gy/fraction for high-risk [HR] clinical target volume [CTV] D90%).

Background: Although nivolumab (anti-programmed cell death-1 antibody) is a promising approach for advanced gastric cancer (AGC), the response rate remains limited. The aim of this multicenter retrospective study was to determine if clinical features could serve as prognostic factors of the efficacy of nivolumab in patients with AGC.
Methods: Fifty-eight patients with AGC who were treated with nivolumab as a third or later line from October 2017 to December 2018 at any of five clinical sites were enrolled in the study.

The promising results of the PACIFIC study led to the approval of consolidation durvalumab for coverage by the National Health Insurance (NHI) in 2018 for patients with locally-advanced unresectable non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) treated with definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). However, the effect of NHI coverage on the patterns of care for this population remains unclear. Here, we conducted a questionnaire-based survey to determine the patterns of care for patients with stage II-III NSCLC treated with definitive radiotherapy in 2017 (pre-durvalumab era) or in 2019 (post-durvalumab era).

A 66-year-old man, who had undergone plasma exchange 30 years previously in Egypt for the treatment of falciparum malaria, was referred to our hospital for treatment of chronic hepatitis C (HCV). An analysis of the 655-nucleotide 5'-untranslated region-core region sequence revealed infection with HCV subtype 1g. A phylogenetic analysis of the full-length HCV genome confirmed that the patient's HCV was subtype 1g, which was the first case identified in Japan.

Background/aim: Although systemic therapy is recommended for patients with multiple intermediate stage unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (u-HCC) classified as beyond the up-to-7 criteria (UT-7 out/multiple) as a transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) unsuitable condition, few reports have examined the therapeutic efficacy of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab combination therapy (Atez/Bev) in such cases. This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic response of Atez/Bev in u-HCC patients classified as UT-7 out/multiple.
Material/methods: From September 2020 to September 2021, 95 u-HCC Japanese patients classified as UT-7 out/multiple/Child-Pugh A were enrolled from 21 institutions (median age 76 years, males 73, Child-Pugh 5:6 = 68:27, TNM stage II:III = 17:78).
