Background: Thrombocytopenia due to hypersplenism is a major complication of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated cirrhosis. HCV eradication improves these complications in some patients, but the long-term effects of HCV eradication on these complications remain unclear, especially in patients treated with direct acting antivirals (DAAs). The aim was to evaluate long term changes in thrombocytopenia and leucopenia after HCV eradication with DAAs.

Background/aim: Advanced gastric cancer (AGC) rarely presents with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) at the time of diagnosis. Chemotherapy should be selected in consideration of hematological toxicities because these patients are at high risk of hemorrhagic complications. The leucovorin, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) regimen is an effective and less toxic regimen for patients with AGC and poor performance status.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected patients has a high risk of recurrence. Although eradication of HCV is expected to reduce this risk, the risk in patients with a history of HCC may be high after treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs).
Aim: To determine the risk factors for HCC recurrence in patients with HCV and a history of HCC.

The increased use of immune-checkpoint inhibitors to treat various types of cancer has increased the incidence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Hepatic irAEs are frequent and can lead to serious conditions. Among the various types of hepatic irAEs reported to date, bile duct injury has been shown refractory to steroid treatment.

Aims: The study aimed to evaluate the effects of tolvaptan treatment on survival of patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis with refractory ascites.
Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, observational study included patients with cirrhosis who were treated with tolvaptan for hepatic ascites refractory to conventional diuretics. Patients who could and could not decrease accompanying diuretics within 1 month after tolvaptan administration were defined as the "Decreased" and "Not-decreased" groups, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of active collimator by changing acquisition parameters and obtaining dose profiles in z-axis direction. Dose profiles along z-axis were obtained using XRQA2 Gafchromic film. As a result, the active collimator reduced overranging about 55% compared to that without the active collimator.

The aim of the study was to elucidate the aggressive reduction of both low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and blood pressure (BP) reduced coronary atherosclerotic plaque volume compared with a standard treatment of LDL-C and BP in Japanese patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). This study is a prospective, randomized, and open-labelled with a blind-endpoint evaluation study. A total of 97 patients (81 men, mean age 62.

Objective: To identify and characterize a novel connective tissue disease (CTD)-related autoantibody (autoAb) directed against scaffold attachment factor B (SAFB).
Methods: AutoAb specificity was analyzed using RNA and protein-immunoprecipitation assays. Autoimmune targets were affinity purified using patients' sera and subjected to liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.

Context: Adrenal vein sampling (AVS) is essential for identifying a surgically curable form of primary aldosteronism (PA), but accurate placement of the sampling catheter is technically challenging. Intraprocedural cortisol measurement can confirm the catheter's position, thereby increasing the AVS success rate.
Objective And Methods: We developed a quick cortisol assay (QCA) that uses immunochromatography and gold nanoparticles and can be performed either semiquantitatively or quantitatively.

A line of epidemiological studies suggests that the accumulation of coronary risk factors promotes the progression of coronary atherosclerosis. Recent clinical studies showed that aggressive low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol-lowering therapy using statins could regress coronary atheroma and reduce major cardiovascular events. Additionally, therapy that controlled amlodipine-based blood pressure reduced major cardiovascular events in patients with hypertension compared with an atenolol-based regimen.

A 67-year-old man who had a history of syncope was admitted because of effort angina. The sinus node (SN) was the single blood supply from the right coronary artery (RCA). After we implanted 2 everolimus-eluting stents for RCA, slow-flow occurred and the SN artery was occluded, and junctional escape rhythm was sustained.

64-slice multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) have become widely used in recent years, but there is a possibility that a large volume of dose is radiated at the outside of the scope of scanning due to the effect of over ranging (OR). In this research, the dose volume change at the outside of the scope of scanning in the case of X-ray beam width (BW) and pitch factor (PF) is measured, and the effect of BW and PF on OR is considered. We scanned the upper abdomen of an acrylic human phantom using 64-slice multidetector-row CT in 4 conditions while changing BW and PF.

A 68-year-old man with acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) underwent emergent coronary angiography which showed total occlusion in the proximal right coronary artery (RCA). Gray-scale intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) revealed the culprit lesion was expansively remodeled and contained ruptured and echolucent plaques with spotty calcification, whereas thin-capped fibroatheroma and a large amount of scattered necrotic core were observed by virtual histology (VH)-IVUS. After stent implantation in the proximal RCA under a filter protection, filter-no-reflow phenomenon occurred and thrombus-like defect was observed in the mid RCA.
