Acetylation of E2F1 at K125 facilitates cell apoptosis under serum stress.

Transl Oncol

Department of General Surgery, Sanmen People's Hospital, Sanmen 317100, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • E2F1 is a vital transcription factor involved in regulating the cell cycle and is often found at high levels in cancer cells.
  • Recent research indicates that E2F1 can also trigger apoptosis (cell death) under stress conditions, posing a dual role in cell survival and death.
  • This study reveals that acetylation of E2F1 at K125 during serum stress enhances its ability to promote the expression of Fas and BAX, leading to the activation of caspase-3 and apoptosis in liver cancer cells.

Bacterial infections are closely correlated with the genesis and progression of cancer, and the elimination of cancer-related bacteria may improve the efficacy of cancer treatment. However, the combinatorial therapy that utilizes two or more chemodrugs will increase potential adverse effects. Image-guided photodynamic therapy is a highly precise and potential therapy to treat tumor and microbial infections.

Rhein potentiates doxorubicin in treating triple negative breast cancer by inhibiting cancer-associated fibroblasts.

College of Pharmaceutical Science, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, China; Academy of Chinese Medical Science, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), one of the most abundant stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment, mediate desmoplastic responses. CAFs are major drivers for the failure of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) chemotherapy. It is well-documented that many traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) exhibit potent anti-fibrotic effects based on their capacity to suppress the production of ECM proteins.

Article Synopsis
  • Lei's formula (LSF) is a traditional Chinese herbal remedy that shows potential in treating osteoarthritis (OA) by protecting cartilage and reducing degeneration.
  • The study focuses on how LSF works by inhibiting the mTOR signaling pathway, which is linked to chondrocyte senescence, a key factor in OA progression.
  • Results indicate that LSF effectively preserves cartilage health by decreasing harmful markers, promoting beneficial markers, and ultimately reducing cartilage degradation through its action on chondrocyte behavior.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the role of mitochondrial Omi/HtrA2 signaling pathway in neuronal apoptosis in patients with cerebral hemorrhage (CH).

Methods: In this retrospective analysis, the clinical data of 60 patients with CH who received craniotomy or minimally invasive intracranial hematoma (MIIH) were included in the case group, which was sub-divided into a craniotomy group (n=22) and a minimally invasive group (n=38) depending on the type of surgery. The brain tissue specimens of the above patients were retained in the surgical specimen repository of Yuhuan Second People's Hospital.

Lung cancer in never smokers (LCNS) has been considered as a separate disease and the 7th cause of cancer-related death worldwide. However, limited research has focused on "female" cohorts, which have presented a higher incidence rate. In this study, the microarray data of lung cancer tissues derived from 54 female lung cancer patients, consisting of 43 nonsmokers and 11 smokers, were selected from GSE2109 dataset.

Deep learning-based classification and spatial prognosis risk score on whole-slide images of lung adenocarcinoma.

Histopathology

August 2023

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, Jiangsu Institute of Cancer Research, Nanjing, China.

Aims: Classification of histological patterns in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is critical for clinical decision-making, especially in the early stage. However, the inter- and intraobserver subjectivity of pathologists make the quantification of histological patterns varied and inconsistent. Moreover, the spatial information of histological patterns is not evident to the naked eye of pathologists.

Predictors of job burnout among Chinese nurses: a systematic review based on big data analysis.

Biotechnol Genet Eng Rev

October 2023

School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Bioscience & Nursing, MAHSA University, Jenjarom, Malaysia.

Job burnout is an occupational hazard induced by prolonged exposure to excessive work-related stress -a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity. Knowledge jobs involve many health-promoting features, but stress and burnout may be caused by the rapid increase in the knowledge intensity of work, new job demands, and emerging new professional subcultures emphasizing the excessive commitment to work. Although there are studies on job burnout and predictors among nurses worldwide, evidence specific to Chinese nurses is lacking.

Background: Wound infection (WI) is a disease in which pathogenic bacteria invade and multiply in a wound after trauma or surgery, causing a systemic inflammatory response. WI triggers an immune response in the body, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage, as well as slowing down the healing process. The traditional Chinese medicine prescription of Wuwei Xiaodu Drink (WWXDD) has been widely used in clinical practice with good results.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) often causes joint pain, weakness and mobility disorders, which seriously affects people's daily life and makes them unable to work and study normally. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription Danggui Sini Decoction (DGSND) has been widely used in clinical practice and achieved good results. But there is no high-level evidence to support this result.

Background: There is currently no pooled data in the literature to support whether additional facet joint block results in better clinical analgesia after percutaneous kyphoplasty. We assessed the existing evidence on the safety and efficacy of facet joint block in the treatment of patients with thoracolumbar compression fractures undergoing percutaneous kyphoplasty based on qualified trials.

Methods: We will search PubMed, Springer, ScienceDirect, Wanfang, and Cochrane Library databases through April, 2022.

Objective: To establish the -score equation of right pulmonary artery (RPA) segments for some valuable pulse-wave Doppler parameters (PWD) and estimate their reference ranges in normal fetuses.

Methods: Two hundred and seventy-three normal singleton fetuses at 18-38 weeks were enrolled in this fetal echocardiography of a prospective cross-sectional study. The proximal, middle, and distal segments of RPA of pulsed-wave Doppler parameters, such as peak systolic velocity (PSV) and pulsation index (PI) were obtained by using fetal Doppler echocardiography.

Accumulating studies highlight the role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs)/microRNAs (miRNAs)/messenger RNAs (mRNAs) as important regulatory networks in various human cancers, including thyroid cancer (TC). This study aimed to investigate a novel regulatory network dependent on lncRNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) in relation to TC development. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot were initially employed to detect the expression of MALAT1, insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2), and myelocytomatosis (MYC) in TC cells.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of noncoding RNAs broadly expressed in cells of various species. However, the molecular mechanisms that link circRNAs with progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) are not well understood. In the present study, we attempted to provide a novel basis for targeted therapy for PTC from the aspect of the circRNA-microRNA (miRNA)-mRNA interaction.
